In addition to the Xbox October 2022 Update that was revealed earlier this week, members of the Xbox Insider program in the Alpha ring were treated to a couple of big new features yesterday for Discord and GameDVR.
Firstly, Discord is finally now adding a server and voice channel browser on Xbox, which means you'll no longer be forced to join via the mobile app (with the exception of direct calls). Here's a bit more about it:
"A Discord server & voice channel browser is now available when clicking the Discord button in the Guide under Parties & chats so account-linked users can join a voice channel directly from their console."
As for GameDVR, Xbox is introducing a brand-new "Captures" app, featuring an updated UI and improved performance for managing your clips and screenshots, along with the ability to move captures to an external drive.
Here's what Xbox Engineer Eden Marie had to say about this feature over on Twitter:
"My team has been working very hard on getting this new Captures app ready for today's Alpha release. The initial focus is definitely on improving reliability and performance, but we'll happily take your feedback and suggestions - please use Report a Problem to pass it along!"
There's no word yet on when these features will extend to the wider public in addition to Insiders, but it normally takes a few weeks (or sometimes months) for this to occur. Hopefully it won't be too long!
Microsoft also added another GameDVR feature this week in the form of the ability to edit / trim clips via the Xbox mobile app before sharing them online. It's great to see we're getting some much-needed improvements in this area!

Glad to see it. Discord integration is sorely missed as it's become almost the defacto standard for PC gaming so now I don't need to have some workaround with my phone.
All I want is to be able to take screen shots smaller then 4K. I don't need them that large.
The cancer that is Discord can go die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. I don't allow it on any of my devices.
@InterceptorAlpha Relax bruh.
What's wrong with Discord?
@sheldonlufc I understand inflection doesn't carry over text. So no worries on being confused on me being worked up.
Discord has a history of refusing to remove illegal and exploitative material. Egregious tracking practices. All that convinced with the vested interest by Tencent I feel is enough to give anyone pause. That said, there's a laundry sheet of reasons not to use it.
@InterceptorAlpha Are there any better alternatives?
