With Avowed just a few days away I figure we could have a place to discuss it. I am looking forward to it but will probably start it after I finish Indy. Anyone else excited for this game or am I the only one?

One question I have do Gamepass members have access to the early play time?

@Tasuki You could have added a screenshot or something 😜.

The first trailer showed the combat and gave me Skyrim vibes and I say this in a positive way. With each trailer, I have noticed how much polished the graphics look. I think they are making something unique and interesting to play.

That said, I am not the biggest fan of Obsidian, I didn't finish The Outer Worlds nor Pentiment, but Avowed looks great and I'm excited for it. Grounded is funny. I'm curious about Fallout Las Vegas, I should play that one. A remaster would be nice.

Like usual, you need to purchase the Premium Edition or a Premium upgrade if you want the extra goodies and early access.

Definitely excited about the game OP, though I have no history with Obsidian and not really sure what to expect from the game. Thus far I have remained fairly in the dark with gameplay and other associated promotional material regarding the game as I would like for the experience to be as unspoiled as possible.

I might check it out today but I really want to finish Indiana Jones first. I don't want to get hooked on another game right now. I am trying to stay clear of spoilers and such so I haven't seen or read any reviews. The only thing I saw was apparently this game takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity.

Today’s the day! Hope everyone enjoys, looking forward to first impressions.

A bit naff the release is so late in the day for the UK, not really getting a full day especially if you can only play in the morning. 🤷

Can I also play this on PC if I have Gamepass Ultimate? I know I can get it through Battle.net cause I see it whenever I launch World of Warcraft but it wants me to buy it.

@Tasuki Yes, can confirm it is playable on PC with game pass. Was playing it earlier that way myself. Not sure about Battlenet, but I know it works with the Xbox app.

Hello everyone! I have about 2h into it and looking good so far. There are a few industry people I respect that crapped on story and conversations which is a shame if true but the only way to know for sure is to run credits 😂

@Bigmanfan Yeah I saw that I can access it through the Xbox App on PC, however I say a post this morning on Twitter from Blizzard saying that if you link your Battle.net account with your Xbox account you can access it Battle.net for free as well.

I watched my son play at 2 hours last night on the Series X and the game looks beautiful. The combat from what I have seen is really good and I like how they give you so many options for combat. I am tempted to start a game myself thinking of going with a dual welding build mainly because I love dual welding in games like this. I can tell that this game is going to take alot of my time. I need to finish Indy first lol.

@Zuljaras As an archer, I'm more annoyed with them shooting a bow horizontally

So I finally got around to starting Avowed. I finished the tutorial level and this game looks gorgeous. The secneary and the vivid colors so beautiful. I am loving the sense of exploration and the combat feels nice. I am trying to figure out my play style. Right now I am trying to dual weld since that's what I love doing in fantasy games but I do like the magic attacks to, decisions decisions. I figure I will keep playing it and figure it out eventually lol.

After putting more hours into this game today I can say I am loving it. I know its early in the year but unless something else comes along that I am enjoying this much, this is going to be my GOTY for 2025. I know alot of people are comparing this to Skyrim but this game fixed alot of things that I hated in Skyrim. Once again Obsidian proved what Bethesda does they can do better. Its is so fun just to explore everywhere just this evening I have yet to get to the first quest cause I was just exploring the land lol.

As I said before I am doing a dual wield build with a sword in my main hand and an axe in my off hand, looking at a berzerker warrior type. I am going with medium armor due to the stamina reduction that heavy armor gives but I am took charge and constant recovery. I use charge against blocking enemies and then I can wail on them with my sword and axe while they are getting back up and constant recovery keeps me healed a bit. For my other loadout I am using an arquebus which is alot of fun to use and very powerful. The only gripe I have is leveling seems to be slow but that just might be me cause I am anxious to get new skills and upgrade my character but I always have when it comes to games like this.

I can see myself putting alot of hours into this game.

@dmcc0 I guess it looks cooler to them

I just can't get over the fact of how UNinteractive this game is. I mean for an "immersive"
fantasy game to just shoot someone in the face and nothing to happen is shocking.

And this comes from a big studio not 2 people making a game.

The NPCs are standing there soulless "pretending" to have a dialogue ... I wonder if there was a QA team and if they logged bugs for that

dmcc0

@Zuljaras Yeah, it's like the medieval equivalent of the Gangster grip - looks cool, but not at all practical 😃

It looks pretty bad in the video comparison, but I haven't really played many Elder Scrolls-type games so couldn't say which is more typical.

I mean, if most games like this have Oblivion-level interaction then it really doesn't look good, but if it's the other way round and they've compared it to Oblivion because it's an outlier, then it's a little disingenuous and Avowed is no better or worse than many similar games in that regard. It seems to have reviewed pretty well from what I've seen so far, so it doesn't appear to be that big an issue for that many people.
