It's been a few months now since Microsoft launched the Xbox Design Lab program in 11 new countries, and the company also has plans to add the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller to Design Lab later this year, which is great to see.
And so, we thought we'd take the opportunity to ask - what do you think of Xbox Design Lab, and have you ever bought a Design Lab controller? We've customised our own controllers here at Pure Xbox in the past (largely thanks to Microsoft Rewards), and have always found the quality to be excellent. We're definitely happy with ours!
Of course, Xbox Design Lab has continued to evolve over the past few years (it went on hiatus for eight months when the Xbox Series X and S launched), with new preset designs, colours and much more added during that time.
So, let's hear it! Have you ever bought an Xbox Design Lab controller, and if you have, what do you think of it? What are your thoughts on the program in general? Did your Microsoft Rewards points come in handy when buying one?

I have played with design lab but never pulled the trigger. Now that the pro controller is on there I might actually do it. I’ve been debating getting the pro for awhile but I really like a good color scheme on my controllers so I’m very excited for the chance to customize the pro.
I haven't used it but I want a new/2nd controller that isn't an xbone controller and I've been thinking I'll probably do design lab just for the novelty of it. Not sure I even have a design in mind, but it is just sort of fun to personalize the thing I spend so many hours interacting with.
Not available at my country, but would order immediately if/when it becomes available. I'm sucker for special/unique controllers, and default XSS is so boring (it's just good, all so reliably good).
The closest I've ever been to getting my wife into videogames was her designing me a controller in the lab for Christmas last year. Orange with light green and blue highlights, absolutely gorgeous!
Nope I like the Console but I'm not that invested
Quite happy using my Forza Horizon 5 controller 🙂
I've designed a purple and green one (joker themed), looking to buy it at the end of this month.
No , never going to use it as I have a weird thing with controllers , as soon as the grip on the sticks wears off I buy new ones. Therefore I buy at least 3 new controllers a year and these ones I would only buy to display , and that time is way behind me.
@Nightcrawler71 best feeling controller I’ve ever used, hands down.
Yep, think it's a great option having the ability to design your own.
Hopefully in the future the add more colors, shades, back triggers and customization
I would if I had the money.
Its a fantastic idea but ive never used it. I have an elite controller, what more could i want
I bought one last year, and use it almost exclusively. I love option to add the rubberized grips. It's hard to go back to my normal controller after using my customized one so much. It's mostly green with black, silver, and white accents. It is beautiful.
If i could afford to buy one probably would but i think they need to add more design options also.
I haven’t but I’d like to.
I doubt I'd come up with something nicer looking than my Elite Series 2 Core controller. Really happy with it.
FH5 controller wasn't really available anymore so I went for a Superman themed colored one (Blue/Red/Yellow). I doubted to take the rubber grips but glad I got them in the end. Good quality! Still can't believe the more expensive Elite has quality issues ...
I'm saving up my points to maybe get one around christmas, or early next year depending on points balance and finances.
I've got my eye on one of the rainbow ones as if you're going to get your own controller then you should go hard
I like that you can make your own one as it's a cool feature if you're big into gaming.
I like that you can customise and I would be tempted but my xbox controllers tend to get 'sticky triggers', and I'd be annoyed if that happened to my custom one...
The lack of features of what I like most is not present. Mostly the textured triggers at this point. How is that not an option? For this reason it just isn't worth the cost, you can just buy a Series X|S controller with better features, for less.
@UltimateOtaku91 I have been toying around with creating a joker themed one too...
will design one, when the elite2 can be configured =)
@Murray Same here. Can't wait!
Love, love, love Design Lab. 👍 Wish the ‘others’ had it too. In a funny way Design Lab got me to buy a Series X. Because I had my Gamertag engraved on my Design Lab controller I couldn’t sell it when I had to sell my XB1. When Halo Infinite came out I realised that not only did I still have a controller I still had Game Pass so I could play Infinite on my iPhone with Xcloud. 😱😱😱😱 When Xbox announced Xbox All Access I figured ‘What the hell’ and bought myself a Series X. Thanks MS. 👍 Definitely going to be making my own Elite when that comes in.
I've used it, as was only about £5 difference in cost between that and normal one at the time. I thought it was a really cool idea and lots of options. Was really pleased with mine, something different.
