On the eve of the series' 10th birthday, Forza Horizon 5 is getting a massive free anniversary update to celebrate a decade of open world racing for the Forza franchise. There's a lot packed in here, from brand-new cars and Forza Horizon throwbacks, to a new Horizon story and some classic FH radio tunes. Here's a look at the highlights from the update, which arrives on October 11th.
Forza Horizon Origins
'Horizon Origins' is a brand-new five-part story coming to FH5 as part of the update, hosted by Bass Arena DJ Scott Tyler. The story focuses on some of the series' most iconic moments, from Horizon 5 all the way back to the first game on Xbox 360. Speaking of which, you'll get the Forza Horizon 1 cover car for completing all five chapters!
Midnight Battles Return
Playground Games is also dipping into the Forza Horizon 3 well by bringing back Midnight Battles, which first originated on the moonlit streets of FH3. These are one-on-one races where the victor keeps the opponent's vehicle, and four battles will be spread across 16 new events at the 'Street Scene' hub. The four vehicles up for grabs are the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, the 1984 Honda Civic CRX Mugen, the 2003 Toyota Celica SS-I and the 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV.
Forza Horizon Mixtape
Perhaps the most surprising update in here, given we don't usually see post-launch FH music, is the introduction of 'Horizon Mixtape'. This is a selection of tunes from past Forza Horizon games that'll be added to Horizon 5's soundtrack, unlocked via the game's Accolades system. Here's the full list of returning tunes:
- A Moment Apart - ODESZA - Forza Horizon 4 - Horizon Bass Arena
- Aurora (feat. Metrik) - Camo & Krooked - Forza Horizon 3 - Hospital Records
- Bored To Death - blink-182 - Forza Horizon 3 - Vagrant Records
- Constellations FH3 VIP Mix - Fred V & Grafix - Forza Horizon 3 - Hospital Records
- Dawnbreaker - Metrik - Forza Horizon 4 - Hospital Records
- Fly Marshmello - Forza Horizon 4 - Horizon Bass Arena
- Get It Right - The Offspring - Forza Horizon 3 - Epitaph Records
- Language - Porter Robinson - Forza Horizon - Horizon Bass Arena
- Levels (Skrillex Mix) - Avicii - Forza Horizon - Horizon Bass Arena
- Nocturne - Keeno - Forza Horizon 2 - Horizon Bass Arena
- Show Me A Sign - Modestep - Forza Horizon - Horizon Bass Arena

- Sunrise - Fred V & Grafix - Forza Horizon 4 - Hospital Records
- Tied To You (feat. Justin Tranter) - The Knocks - Forza Horizon 3 - Horizon Pulse

There's also a selection of clothing, emotes, and car horns returning from past games as well, along with the usual 'Festival Playlist' containing throwbacks to some of the series' biggest cars. Finally, the Forza Horizon 5 update brings with it eight achievements worth a total of 150 gamerscore. This month's update is one big Horizon celebration, folks!

Not sure this is enough to tempt me back to this title, but its welcome to see updates.
After a few months with this title the shine wore out for me. I thought I was just weird, but I've now spoken to a lot of people, who like me, have returned to Forza 4 as it is a better game.
I just bought the original Forza horizon 360 on Ebay for a few quid because I didn't play it first time round. Its surprising how well it holds up and how much of the style was established in the first title. Was definitely a land mark game worthy of a long series
Guess I'm redownloading FH5 then 😁 Don't know when I'll play it, though. Not enough hours in the day 😑 Also, love the addition of A Moment Apart but was hoping for more FH4 tracks. The OST for FH4 is by far my favourite one.
@Tintin
I second that. FH4 is my favourite entry in this series and FH5 didn't hold my attention as long as the previous game.
New tunes are definitely welcomed, the others has started to grate
I can never get tired of this game, it just keeps delivering.
Do note that 4 of these songs are unlocked via winning the weekly limited time Seasonal Championships.
I don't like the concept of limited time song unlocks and the overall setlist is too heavy on Horizon Bass Arena but it's nice having songs like Bored to Death back.
Forza Horizon 5 is not as good as Forza Horizon 4 which in turn is not as good as Forza Horizon 3.
Forza Horizon 3 is the best in the series. Sure, FH5 has better graphics and more cars, but i just find it less fun.
As some have said before i think the series needs a break for a few years and Microsoft need to be brave and bring back the PGR series.
@species8472 Nostalgia is powerful. It's hard for us to prefer anything that comes later. It never itches that scratch in the same way.
But, honestly, FH4 and 5 have some massive QOL improvements over 3. I still play 3, 4, and 5 regularly - 4 the most, only because it has more content than 5. I look forward to PG continuing to add content to 5, but it will be hard to dethrone FH4 - it has all the QOL improvements over 3, and the content over 5.
Tying the songs to the weekly seasonal is unnecessary.
But the update looks solid. Can't complain at a new short Horizon Story, a new mode and a new radio station. Especially when it's for free.
@k3lt0n
Nostalgia is powerful your right but i really don't know why.
It's weird but when it comes to games, nostalgia is more distinct to me than other mediums like film or music.
As you say the QOL improvements get better with each FH game but for some reason or another i don't seem to be enjoying the game compared to past iterations.
Maybe the problem is me and i need a break from gaming.
Is it a limited time update??
I may give 5 another go.... i wanted to love it, but it just doesn't grab me like FH4 does
Thank you for the good news I'll download FH 5 again.
Agree with the above 3 is the best in the series. The last two have been far too reliant on live service and online elements. 3 was a beast without needing that.
I welcome all this content.
As other say it’s such a shame some in locked in silly timed nonsense
This is a great update.
Just like the rest of the horizon games, they start out strong, but get boring really really fast. I've long since moved on from this.
I love Mexico…heck, I love the locations of all of the Forza Horizon games…but give me the original Colorado map running through 5 and I’d be giddy as a schoolgirl!
