If you're a Monkey Island fan, then you probably already know at this point that the new, long-awaited Return to Monkey Island sequel won't be available on Xbox at launch - which is even more painful after seeing the review scores!
Currently, the game is sitting on a Metacritic average of around 90 for PC, with the likes of IGN and GamesRadar+ awarding 9/10 and 4/5 scores respectively for that version. The Switch version only has a few reviews thus far.
So, what's the status of the Xbox version of Return to Monkey Island? At the moment, we really don't know. PC and Switch are the only confirmed platforms, but we assume Xbox and PlayStation will be added to the mix at some point.
It would seem Nintendo has an exclusive deal for the console version right now, which could ultimately last anywhere from a few months to over a year. Let's hope when the game does finally arrive on Xbox, it joins Game Pass as well!
Sad to see Return to Monkey Island skipping Xbox? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

It's downloading onto my Switch as a type this. Absolutely love the Monkey Island games! I could have waited for a port but I want to play this now!
I dont usually buy pc games...but for this one ill surely make the exception
This article has far to many shades of NL circa 2013 with "x announces game y, but it's not coming to WiiU" 😢
@BartoxTharglod @SplooshDmg 2022 has been a dismal dessert from the typical mainstream AAA Western blockbuster gamer perspective but for weebs it's an impossible onslaught testing ones self restraint daily. Splatoon 3 helps. Once you have that there's no time left for anything else. Just.... One... More... Match....
You'll be done the entire xc series before I am done 3 because Splatoon 3. Btw, gear, grub, or fun?
@SplooshDmg Loving your Xenoblade journey and living vicariously off it! Still haven't picked up XC3 since Day 1. Just too much else going on right now. Soon.... soon.... I hope.
Loved the original games so I'm probably going to get it on Steam today even though I have trouble playing a game without Xbox achievements for very long!
@SplooshDmg It's irritating that I had a decade head start and you'll know the end before I do. Curse splatoon And your inability to play a game completely in sequence with side quests before moving onto the next one
Buuuut....no Splatoon MP yet...which is, like, the actual game......hmmm....there's still time to hook the addiction in! I haven't actually even played Sp3 single player yet, wonder if I'll get to it? I played 1 and 2 but mostly when the servers were down for MP. If 3 is the same, it's almost a different game entirely (2 had a single player DLC pack that was like Squid Souls....it was brutal but fun and nothing like MP). It's a good working tutorial for the concepts and controls, but it's a league apart from MP. I think you'll be amazed the speed multi plays at. It's like Doom Eternal, but not nearly as slow and lumbering. 3 is interesting because when 1 came out, nobody knew anything, everyone got rolled by rollers, and it was hilarious. When 2 came out it was a replay because nobody owned WiiU so everyone was new kids again. With 3, most of the people playing are the die-hards from 2 that have played for 5 years straight plus some new blood, so it's like jumping into any big MP game, everyone is already operating on high octane even in the low ranks and even half the C-'s are former S/+'s lol. The new blood will come at Christmas when the kiddies come into it, but a September launch means it's mostly veterans for now.
You'll miss the first Splatfest this weekend without online, but they'll almost certainly have one near Halloween.
This is basically Call of Duty: Advanced Squidfighter, mixed with Doom Eternal, then run in fast forward and no squeaky 13 year olds screaming obscenities. It will hit every addictive neuron in your brain, it's digital crack, with tentacles, because Japan.
Now, here's a chicken/egg, peanut is not a pea or not kind of question. Are we ON topic, or OFF topic, on the comment section of an article that's literally about a Switch console launch exclusive that's not on Xbox, that exists only to reminds us it's a Switch console launch exclusive that's not on Xbox?
@SplooshDmg I do it totally the other way. I'll often leave the main quest unfinished, or finish it long after the fact, and I'll do all the content as I get to it, lol. Obviously with XC you have to finish it but....meh(-meh-meh) starting a sequel before totally consuming a game....that's reserved for Assassin's Creed I try to preserve the story so it doesn't end too soon and the mysteries don't unravel too fast....keeps it in the now much longer. Last I was playing XC I was scouring for every quest I could do, searching the map to find more, even ones that were too hard for me and grinding to do them. I'd be doing side quests with lv54 requirement while the main quest was like a level 21 requirement, just making sure I didn't advance the story until there was literally nothing else to do. Which is why I ended up leaving the game for Splatoon RIGHT at the single most depressing scene in games history, so it's kind of a sour note to have it on suspend for..... But....Splatoon.....seriously....I'm waiting for next month when you re-up and it consumes you.... It's torture for addictive personalities.... Sweet, sweet torture.
IDK, it's an article about Switch games, we're talking about Switch games, it's the most on topic we've been in 6 months!
@SplooshDmg love it!
@SplooshDmg LOL, for me, once the credits roll that's it, the game's done, I generally have no incentive to touch it again. If it has a post-game I might check it out though I usually lose interest in it fast. It's just not the same once the end game has happened and the story ended. Even when I absolutely love a game and even if it's a short game (like Kena) going back and trying to do more in it after the story is over just feels empty, soulless, and I just move on. So I make sure never to finish the story until after I'm definitely done everything else in the game.
case in point: Torna. I never actually fought the actual battle and saw the ending....I just wanted to go back and finish everything else first, then eventually ended up moving onto something else and leaving it behind entirely. I mean, we know how it ends, lol... So I'll spend months on the same game and then ever beat it. I think Oblivion I played for like 4 months and did like EVERYTHING. Then did the actual "story" in like 2 days after the fact
I haven't finished DQXI still! I stopped because I didn't want it to end and then someone told me where I was there was still another whole act lol.
I get the impression Phil would be the admin on the Official Unofficial Xbox Weeb forum.
@SplooshDmg I....that.....so.......Monkey Island looks cool amirite?
@SplooshDmg Of course you're just kidding, I totally knew that.
The body pillows are reserved for Atelier games.
I draw the line at FE Fates though. That game is creepy AF without the pillows.
