Xbox yesterday announced it was working on a brand new 'Home UI' experience for its console dashboards. It'll be released to the public in 2023 and will add some nifty new features like a new 'jump back in bar'.
This new dash is already available to Xbox Insiders. If you're wondering how it looks in motion, then you might want to view the tweet below, which was shared with Verge senior editor, Tom Warren.
As you can see, the UI has got everything important up top, with the tiles further down assigned to Xbox Game Pass. The same user suggested there was a lack of customisation:
"You can’t customize anything. Like the add to home stuff is gone and everything below is Game Pass but I quite like it, guess it’s good for people that don’t stay up to date that much" @Gaboooiii117 via Twitter
Keep in mind, Microsoft and Xbox have already said they want to integrate fan feedback into the final design (releasing next year), so this is subject to change:
"We know the Xbox homepage is where our gamers spend a lot of their time, and it’s a space that’s very personal. We also know we can always be listening and learning how we can do better here while keeping your experience fast and familiar. With that, we’re kicking off a multi-month series of experiments to learn how to create a more personalized home screen experience and address some of the top trends and fan requests."

I'm not liking it , I had a group of games on my dash they have now gone , I have to go to group 2 under where the quick resume games are
Terrible. Removing customization options is by far the worst thing, just turns it into one giant ad for gamepass
Looks the same to me
Honestly we’re going soooo backwards.
It obstructs your background even more, they’re removing all customization options, you can no longer pin your groups to the homescreen (which is so useful for us who have lots of games on an external drive), it’s filled way too much with Game Pass advertising, pretty much the whole homescreen is now a giant Game Pass ad.
It was almost impossible to make it worse and they definitely exceed themselves in how bad they can design a UI, IMO Xbox’ UI is kinda bad since Xbox One way back in 2013, but this is by far the worst.
Thanks I hate it.
That, and I mean this with ill intent, is some hot garbage.
I am not a fan. I haven't boot up my Series X in a while (Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has got me hooked on my Switch).
Too much Game Pass. Once you get past the system stuff at the top it looks like the Game Pass App on PC.
I do hope people using it offer constructive feedback if you disagree with the design.
Removing customization is a big no-no.
It reminds me of the switch from Android TV to Google TV. Just one giant advertisement. The only thing I like is the easy-access settings button.
Moan moan moan. Alot of you people moan about anything.
@Cyberpunk1964 it's not about moaning, they threw pins at us and we use them then they take them away with one swoop when ppl get used to them ,i had my dash how I wanted it and now it's gone ,it's harder to find things I use most often that why they were pinned , the new dash is great for ppl that don't know the latest game pass releases but I already do it gives me nothing ,why not let ppl have that choice
It’s a colossal downgrade in most aspects vs the current UI. Forced Game Pass adverts replacing fully customisable groups, why?!
I think the dedicated settings shortcut is the only bit I actually like. Aesthetically it looks fine on the first page I guess but as you scroll down it gets way too cluttered and filled with nothing but adverts.
Seems a bit too busy.
Microsoft "we want your feedback"
Everyone "So you can ignore it and do what you want anyway"
Nintendo Wii, Wii U, Switch All was better.
I like the current one more. As I said yesterday, the second row of the current UI has no useful tiles except My games and apps. Remove that row. Make a tiles tree or something. Make it more Windows 11. The preview I'm seeing here is the opposite, it's a festival of tiles.
Looks just as cluttered to me and a bit of an advert for game pass.
This is the way Xbox are going like it or not.
Keep it simple like the Switch or even the PS5 dashboard.
This is what they spend all their timing doing not really improving things or even making them worse.
Xbox you are already on the brink of losing me after decades since my original Xbox, but me guessing you don’t care 🤷♂️
Shame in the 360 days I couldn’t have been more proud to have owned an Xbox.
Me and big Phil off to play GOWR soon 😂😂😂
Looks a bit of a mess to me. Prefer how it is now.
It looks a complete and utter cluttered mess. I really hope it’s not like that when it arrives…keep content for things contained within their own apps ffs. Not everything out in just one mess at the front.
The ‘jump back in’ bar I’ve no problem with…but when he starts scrolling down it’s basically going through gamepass…without opening gamepass (which I guess is what they want).
Also, how’s this looking for people who don’t have gamepass?…I really hope gamepass content isn’t littering their home screen too
Noooooo!!! They f*up
It's horrendous! What were they thinking?!
Looks great, can't wait, even better than the one we have now
I’m still adjusting to the current UI (haven’t had an Xbox since the 360) and like the pin feature to focus the titles I’m playing currently, and… it’s gone….
It reminds me of a budget smart tv menu.
Wow, what a total disaster. PS5 just added folders but you can't even put them on your main screen. The are stuck in a sub menu so it renders them pretty much worthless. For me what made the Xbox UI better vs PS5 was the folders/categories you could make and now it's gone. Pathetic
The speed looked nice, and I appreciated the top row of tiles now being the same size.... but they can't take away the ability to add your own groups/pins to the home page surely? That must be because they are experimenting with new features in the dashboard preview, no way they would take that away, would they?!
So is the experience the same for game pass and non-game pass subscribers? If so this just feels like one big lame ad for game pass itself. I also get the impression that they’re mimicking the netflix experience’ and trying to appeal to users used to that.
I don’t like it. In fact I haven’t liked any of the Xbox One Dashboards. I found most iterations of 360 much more user friendly by comparison. But even back then they started slowly introducing ads, this is just a continuation arguably on a larger scale.
I don't loke it, it's too cluttered. I like more clean style ui like in switch and ps4/ps5. And give us folders already 😕
Not quite as bad as the Firestick UI, but getting there!
Actually, I think Xbox could learn something from some of the better TV service UI out there... the one on Disney+ is quite decent (just would need ability to pin games added to make a nice UI for Xbox).
I have yet to upgrade to current gen and use a PS4 PRO. My plan has been to switch to MS this gen. However I much prefer the PS4 ui compared to the PS5 and the current Xbox and coming new and not improved Xbox ui.
It seems this gen that both Sony and MS just do not know how to make a ui we want. Just keep it simple stupid and copy the PS4 ui.
This is really really bad. I had my top 6 games pinned to the menu below so I could easily get to them.
This is just random garbage splat on your tv. Not good at all.
Why can't they just give you a choice of what version you want to use rather than permanently taking choice away from the player?
Game Pass should be one tile, and nothing more. Everything being displayed here for GP can be displayed within that one tile once entered. That would be empowering the player, rather than overwhelm them.
This is just a lot going on and I'm absorbing none of it.
Not really bothered as it's merely a portal for my games. I don't play the UI.
It's soo bad I'm not even using my Xbox anymore. Perhaps this is how I give up gaming.
This is just as bad as their Windows 11 idea that just sucks.
