If you've been waiting for an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan, today's the day! Well, kind of. Microsoft has begun rolling out the plan to Xbox Insiders in Colombia and Ireland for now, and has provided a bunch of details about what to expect.
According to Xbox Wire, this plan will allow up to four people to share their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefits, with seemingly no restrictions on whether you add friends or family members (or a combination of both).
There's no word on a price yet (update: it's €21.99 per-month in Ireland during the preview phase), but based on this wording, we're assuming it could be around $25 per-month in the US:
"Joining the Game Pass – Insider Preview will convert the time remaining on your membership to time in the new plan, based upon the monetary value of the old membership. For example, a full month of Ultimate will be converted to 18 days of membership for this plan. This way you won’t lose any of the remaining value on your existing subscription upon conversion. Conversion is final, and users must wait for their new membership to expire before returning to a previous membership."
The only other details we've got at the moment is that, during the Xbox Insider preview plan at least, the conversion is not available for joined group members, so anyone who joins an existing Family Plan either has to wait for their existing Game Pass membership to expire, or just cancel it. People who join your Family Plan also have to be in the same country as you, but again, there's no word yet on whether that'll change when it's available to everyone.
Still quite a few unknowns for now, then, but it's great to see the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Family Plan finally starting to be rolled out to Xbox Insiders. Hopefully it'll roll out to more countries soon, and we'll let you know when it does.
"This makes it even easier to play the best Game Pass games with friends and family across console, PC, and cloud by enabling you to add up to four people to your subscription, all with their own unique access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits."
Excited for this? Have you got into the preview? Let us know in the comments below.

Sounds great for people that want multiple users under their belt. I'm the only one who plays games in my household so it wont do me any good, but great to see more options for others!
@J_Mo_Money Same.... however depending on the legal notes if I can share a family plan with a few buddies it might be something i look into.
Natural I'm keeping the rewards points bitches!!! Lol
Perfect, been waiting for this! Hopefully the price bump isn't too steep.
I'm going to keep preaching this....
Where is the bundle deal with savings if you purchase a FULL year of game pass in advance?!?!?!?!
Willing to bet more gamers waiting for and wanting that more than a family plan.
@GuyinPA75 It's always around 50% off during the holidays. That's when I usually stock up.
@Krzzystuff I'm not sure how that would work, maybe like game sharing but family plan could come in handy for that.
That’s kinda random. Colombia and Ireland?
@Techno92LFC makes sense to test in smaller markets. And Colombia and Ireland are very different countries which will provide good data points for Xbox. The behavior of customers in a developing South American country will most likely be very different from a wealthy European country.
@J_Mo_Money I look for it. Only seem to find the 50% off thereabouts for Xbox live. I've yet to stumble across game pass one. It be nice.
Still there should be option for that by now. Microsoft dropping the ball. My $1 deal is ending soon. Not going bother renew for $10-$15 a month. For me at least, that price is not worth it.
I don’t think I need this.
I have GPU series x, made home console.
When others log in, they get to play all my games and have cloud saves and all the benefits of my GPU.
Am I missing something?
Have been looking forward to this. More of a family subscription than Nintendos by the sound of it. Will be worth getting a Series S for the kids so we can play each other without needing a second subscription. Does it work for purchases outside of Gamepass I wonder. Or do I have it all wrong 😂
@Magabro That does make sense. Thanks!
@GuyinPA75 Best Buy and Amazon always have 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate for around $22-$24 dollars instead of $45 in November/December. I've stacked up each of the past two years on that. Guaranteed this year will be similar deal.
Boom, finally! As soon as this comes to the UK, I can finally properly get my wife onto my subscription and she can actually make use of PC Game Pass when signed into her own account.
@Dezzy70
This is for if you have multiple consoles and users in your house.
So say you're a parent, you have your own console, and you have 2 kids that have a console each, then this is where the Family Plan comes in, as the method you are using only works for 2 consoles.
@J_Mo_Money @GuyinPA75 i haven't seen the sale in Canada last year and not sure if they will have it this time around. The sales are regional so it's not for everyone. I have been using my rewards points to get extra time instead. It mentioned that 4 people in the same country could use the family plan so might be splitting it with buddies at some point. We all have some time stacked up so it could only happen once 2/3 are out of GPU time I'm guessing.
This is the sort of thing that would make me sign up to Game Pass. I've cancelled my NSO and PS Plus, and I only have gold for the online. I find it hard to find value in the services.
Being able to pay for all my family's online and games' need in one service sounds great.
@Royalblues Yup, I have multiple xboxes but my kid isnt old enough to game yet. when he is ill for sure get the family plan since that way we can be logged in to either console with either of our credentials and have all the benefits. And the more family and consoles you have, the better the value becomes.
@Krzzystuff Yeah seeing if you have friends that would use it and up to 4 can be on one family plan that would definitely be the way to go!
Was getting it free every month, now we can do it as a family
@blinx01
Thank you, only have the one console series x
With GPU, made home console.
So guess I’m on the perfect set up for when the older kidults are over as they both have their accounts on my series x and it all works perfect thanks to Xbox.
As the way xbox do it especially with cloud saves it is the best value for money.
When you have PS5 membership the kidults don’t get cloud saves, which is so tight of Sony, unless they have membership as well.
Hopefully they still allow the two user sharing at no additional cost
I’m not sure if I would benefit from this. I currently game share with one of my kids, while the other can’t. So I’m paying £21.98 a month for two GPU subscriptions. If the family plan is less than £21.98 then I may take it up, more for convenience of paying for just one subscription if nothing else.
@GuyinPA75 wait till it runs out and buy cheap 12 month gold from cdkeys.com then upgrade all the 12 months to ultimate for the price of one month ultimate or ...a cheap month ultimate code from the same place
@Dezzy70 Umm yes, you are.
The Family plan allows other Xbox users who have their own Xbox account to use your Game Pass without having to switch to your Xbox account. No one earns achievements or reward points using your account.
It also means you can potentially share your Game Pass with friends as long as they live in the same country as you. Again, without them having to switch to your Xbox account.
When my GP Ultimate eventually runs out I'll definitely be looking into this. Only 18 months to go.
@Acurisur
No they don’t seem to have to switch to my account
They just turn MY console on, they sign in with out me signed in and play all my game pass games and with cloud saves etc. it’s just like me playing it but their account signed in.
Series x GPU and console is home console.
It works perfectly.
@EliSweetG That's always the problem with "family plans" for streaming services and cell phone plans. People with 4 people get a bargain, and people with 2 people just pay as much as 2 people buying separately and it ends up feeling like "family of 2" ends up subsidizing families of 4. At least this one looks like it saves a FEW bucks for 2 which is better than family plan averages.
The trouble with this is that it's cheaper to get 3rd party live codes and and covert with ultimate, I share mine with home Xbox in the front room costing me around £42 for 12 months. My son also shares his with his sisters xbox being the home xbox costing around £30 for six months. I've been waiting for this tier of family game pass but it just seems a little to expensive when there are still other options out there.
