Ahead of Infinity Ward's big Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launch later this year, the developer has revealed when we can all go hands on with the game's open beta. While there's plenty of Xbox time included across two weekends, sadly, we do have to wait longer than those playing on PlayStation. Here are they key dates:
Weekend 1 (PlayStation Only):
- September 16-17 - Early Access
- September 18-20 - Open Beta
Weekend 2:
- September 22-23 - Early Access On Xbox + PC / Open Beta On PlayStation
- September 24-26 - Open Beta On All Platforms
To gain entry to the Early Access beta period, on any platform, you'll have to pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The Open Beta will then be accessible for every Xbox owner from the 24th to the 26th. At the moment we're not expecting the full game to hit Xbox Game Pass anytime soon, even with the ongoing Activision Blizzard deal, so if you're keen to try the new CoD ASAP, pre-ordering is always an option.
Alongside the beta date reveal, Activision has also confirmed an upcoming event all about the future of Call of Duty. The 'Call of Duty Next' livestream event takes place September 15th, with Warzone 2 set to feature heavily alongside other upcoming CoD plans.
Are you looking forward to MW2 (again)? Will you be taking part in the beta? Let us know down below!

TBH, as this will have been in development for a while, I am guessing they won't have had time to react to the negative feedback from Vanguard and address it in the new game.
Maybe the next CoD after this one will get things back on track. Maybe.
I wonder whether MS are buying Activision at the wrong time... a bit like when NewsCorp bought MySpace.
CoD feels like it has been going downhill for a long time... or maybe I'm just an old git who is wishing everything was like it was in the old days 😆
Seriously though... the original MW1 and 2 and the original BLOPS 1 and 2 still feel far more enjoyable than any of the recent iterations.
It's ok, I'm sure Sony will continue to plead innocent with its exclusivity deals and how COD is vital for their total survival to the FDA....
The sooner MS get Activision the better and the sooner these Sony exclusive deals can be buried.
Allegedly, Sony has a deal with A/B until 2023's expected release. Therefore this was totally predictable. Sony cannot and has not been able to make any new deals or amend ongoing deals since A/B announced they were selling up to MS as that is illegal for a company about to be sold.
Xbox gamers have had to wait for 'pre-existing' agreements to be honoured before so I see no difference here. We are still waiting for Deathloop and Ghostwire, and games like Psychonauts 2, Outer Worlds etc were not 'exclusive' either so its likely to be quite a few 'years' before any 'exclusives' from this deal start arriving...

Rest assured, our resident Sony boys will soon drop in from PushSquare to do the Sony is innocent pleading....Sony don't have to do sh*t, their irrationally over zealous fans will start WW3 to defend them 😅
@Royalblues
Subscription service, Live Service games, cross gen releases, backwards compat, probably other stuff I've forgotten about.
There's been a lot of Sony u-turns in the last couple of years. The fanbase seem to get whiplash every other week trying to change direction so quickly.
@S1ayeR74 are you basically saying it's ok for Microsoft to have these exclusive deals or in general do you think exclusive deals should be dead?
If you remember Microsoft had the same sort of deal with Call Of Duty before PlayStation did...all of these deals regardless of Cod or any other dev/game should be squashed and made to everyone on the first day.
When Microsoft owns them then you'll get the betas first as they will own them.
I would rather exclusive deals just be ruled out entirely.
@hoffa007 I think the exclusive deals should be scrapped. But with the revelation of Sony actively paying to have games kept off Game Pass, then Microsoft can make every Bethesda and Activision game Nintendo and Microsoft exclusive as far as I'm concerned.
Microsoft haven't really been into exclusivity for ages. Sony has done it since day one.
But I suspect it'll be all COD etc on Game Pass day and date and Sony gamers can pay full price for the game day and date with no exclusive deals.
