We're only a few months away from Warhammer 40K: Darktide hitting Xbox Game Pass day one, when the upcoming shooter arrives on September 13th. Ahead of launch, the team's design lead, Victor Magnuson, spoke with SegmentNext, revealing some nice little details about the Xbox Series X|S versions.
The developer was asked a pretty straightforward question about how the game would run on Microsoft's latest line of consoles, and he gave a relatively simple answer too. The game will run at 4K, 60FPS on Xbox Series X, and either 1440p or 1080p on Xbox Series S, with that version seemingly still being worked out. Crucially though, Xbox Series S will retain the game's 60FPS target.
We didn't get any more nitty gritty details on dynamic resolutions, frame rate ranges and the likes, but the developer seems pretty confident it can hit that 60FPS target across both Xbox Series X and S. This is very much welcome, as Series S can sometimes miss out on higher frame rates compared to its bigger brother.
The rest of the interview touched on various other aspects of the upcoming Xbox exclusive, including co-op details, the game's loot system, how the title will expand as a live service, and more.
Will you be playing Darktide on Game Pass? Happy with these tech targets? Let us know below!

don't think I have ever played a Warhammer game in my life. They good?
@Spazmonic Tough to answer, but in general, yes. There are so many varied genres of Warhammer and Warhammer 40K games made. There are really good real time strategies (Dawn of War series) and first/third person shooters (Space Hulk, I think, and this upcoming one.). Someone more well versed in all the plethora of Warhammer videogames may correct my game picks.
@Spazmonic In recent years Games Workshop (who own the IP) have let everyone and their dog make games based on their properties in a sort of "throw at the wall and see what sticks" gambit. So there is a massive range of quality and gameplay types.
So I'd say wait for reviews to come out first before deciding.
That is good news, looking forward to this. Might be a purchase rather than playing it on gamepass
Kudos to them trying, and hoping, for 60fps on the series s, at 1440/1080p. I'm sure that's what owners of the series s are looking for.
@PhileasFragg Good to know. I like FPS stuff so this looks cool.
This is the game I’ve been most hyped for since last years show that’s thankfully still coming out this year. Really enjoyed vermintide. And always been intrigued with the warhammer universe. Hope this will play as good as it looks!
@Spazmonic @PhileasFragg
This is made by the same team that made Vermintide. This is the same formula but for 40k instead of fantasy. Pretty safe bet this one will be good.
Xbox LAUNCH EXCLUSIVE??
I thought WarHammer Darktide was going to be an actualy exclusive game for Xbox consoles....
But now that I am thinking it through a little bit, I think I was under the impression that Warhammer was part of the Bethesda acquisition.
I have never played more than a game session or two of a few of the War Hammer games that were in Game Pass. But this new one, the trailer got me hyped! I guess Xbox just did a deal with War Hammer, because I recently saw them showcase all of the future games they are working on.
Xbox, please start making these deal legit exclusivity if they are not going to be permenantly exclusive. A three month exclusivity means very very little. I feel like when STALKER2 finally releases, and people realize that it is only on Xbox exclusively for 3 months, They are going to be pretty frustrated and PS fans are just going to talk ***** like they always do. But I really feel like Xbox should have paid for a full year of exclusivity.
I mean shoot, Sony is paying for two full years of exclusivity for Forespoken.... and lets not even get started about Sonys deal for Final Fantasy
@InterceptorAlpha I can get behind that
@Stoned_Patrol exclusivity needs to die. It's a taint on the industry, and is only used in real-terms by fanboys. Getting something sooner isn't better, and in fact often leads to a subpar product compared to those without the exclusivity, who receive nicely patched "definitive" editions down the line.
@Spazmonic as others have said there’s different types of Warhammer and within that a wide range of games in different genres, from different developers, of differing quality. It’s really confusing.
There’s a lot of average to ok games that you might like if you like the genre or source material (around 50-74 on Metacritic).
But there’s a few like Vermintide 1&2 that are just good to great games (79 & 82 MC) that can be enjoyed regardless of the license, sadly the Warhammer / 40K license puts a lot of people off.
This game is by those devs, so expectation is high.
@uberdaddypig
well if we are being realistic.... all these companies would not be buying all these studios for billions if they were ever even considering making everything for everyone. Would be cool, but getting on PC is the closest to getting everything
