Update: The GoldenEye 007 achievements are also now showing on the official Xbox website.
We're getting close, folks!
Original story: Despite the fact it's been leaked and talked about numerous times over the past six months, the GoldenEye 007 port for Xbox has yet to be officially revealed, but we're hoping it might be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2022.
In the meantime, an eagle-eyed Xbox fan on Reddit has spotted that someone actually unlocked an achievement in GoldenEye 007 for Xbox a month ago, as documented on the True Achievements website:
If you're wondering who BIGsheep is and how they've got access to GoldenEye 007 on Xbox early, it's believed to be the gamertag of Rare Lead Engineer James Thomas. In fact, Thomas appeared to be spotted unlocking achievements in the game six months ago as well, along with Rare's Head of Community Christina McGrath.
It's definitely real, then - we're just going to have to see if it gets a release date (or a shadow drop!) at the Xbox Games Showcase next week. Don't expect a full-on remake - it looks like it'll be more of an enhanced port of the N64 original.
When do you think we'll finally hear about GoldenEye 007 for Xbox? Give us your predictions below.

It’s been so long since I played Goldeneye. I’m not really a FPS fan, but I’m excited about its possible return. Hopefully we see something on this at the showcase.
It just better be done up a bit...a straight N64 port would burn the retina pretty badly
Supposedly the entire game was remade for an Xbox 360 release back when the copyright snobs were cracking down on their IP. Maybe we will get that version.
I suspect a Game Pass shadow drop during next week's showcase.
@SecretAgentCat The belief is that we won't be getting the Xbox 360 remake as the achievement list is supposedly different and the achievement screenshots appear to show N64-like graphics for this new port.
You never know though I suppose!
Played this game a lot back in the days had unlocked all the cheats , one of my favorite N64 game for sure but don’t know if I will go back to this game , maybe if it’s on gamepass.
I'd guess August release coinciding with the 25th anniversary, it would also fit in with the NSO schedule as June's game is almost certainly Pokemon Snap but nothing afterwards is known.
@FraserG I hope it is the remastered port. It was close to final but not complete and shipped, so it’s conceivable they did some uplift including changing or adding achievements. The port also has both new and old graphics so perhaps they’d use the old style assets in places. It’d be truly bizarre for them to have a straight N64 port when they have the remaster sitting there that can run both new and old. I doubt they avoid any of the licensing issues by using a straight N64 port rather than the remastered edition, so it wouldn’t make sense to me.
Secret drop on June12th or launching on the 25th anniversary?
Having tried to play N64 era games in recent years, I can honestly say I much prefer the 'rose tinted' memories of playing those games with my kids/family/friends in the late 90's than revisiting them now. For me, they are too dated now and I'd rather keep the memories of that era as great 'memories but I'm also glad that people can get to play historically relevant games today - especially those that missed out...
I believe this and TMNT Shredder’s Revenge will be shadow dropped after the June 12th showcase. I know there are rumors that TMNT will release on the 16th, but a few days early doesn’t seem too far out of the equation. Either way, I’d love the Goldeneye remake; I spent hundreds of hours as a kid playing that game with friends. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind if The World is Not Enough got remade as well, because that game was fantastic too.
My 2p: it'll coincide with the 60th anniversary of Dr. No since Danjaq would have needed to sanction this, so I'm punting for a showing on June 12th for an october release and
I reckon you'll be able to switch between remastered graphics and original N64 Graphics.
Seriously seriously pumped for this.
I loved goldeneye 007 back in the day. My friends and I played it so much but I have no interest in seeing it return. Those days are long gone and any remaster wouldn’t bring that nostalgia back.
I’m happy for people who are looking forward to this though. I hope it’s what you want it to be.
I'll believe it when I see it.
@Smigit 100% with you. The Xbox remaster was almost completed and leaked and it includes dual graphics. It makes sense to use N64 screenshots for the achievements because of nostalgia and the fact that the achievement list has been redone doesn't mean anything. Releasing the N64 rom on Xbox doesn't make any sense. Perfect Dark was remastered and Goldeneye was also remastered but not released officially... until now, I hope.
To the naysayers here or elsewhere, the game itself is better than most modern shooters but it needs to be remastered like Perfect Dark. I can't think of many old games this good that haven't been remastered, so remastering Goldeneye 007 is a necessity.
Amazon owns the rights to 007 now I don't see why they would let it on Xbox when Phil Spencer keeps saying that Amazon , google & apple are their biggest competition

False. Amazon doesn't own the rights to 007 but the rights to specific audiovisual content based on 007 and licensed by the IP owners.
@ParsnipHero @BAMozzy I agree with you both. While I did spend many a nights playing GoldenEye with the boys back in the mid 90's and it was such an awesome game at the time, time however was not kind to the N64 version.
I tried playing it a few years ago with my son, got an N64 and every thing, since he never played it. I even had one of my friends over and we played it for a few hours for nostalgia fix. After that though we didn't touch it again and went back to games like Halo or CoD for our multiplayer FPS fix.
It needs to have better aiming controls and just revamped controls in general so that it feels fluid like modern FPS shooters. Improving the textures and lighting would be good as well. Having the option for split screen multiplayer as well as online multiplayer would be awesome as well ! Loved this game back when it first came out on N64 so it'll be a blast to play it again !
If it's just the N64 version I'm not sure I'll be playing it as i do have very fond memories of the game and they will go up on flames if I play it now and my rose tinted nostalgic glasses get shattered. I remember playing Halo CE in the MCC and thought it looked great for an old game....and then i accidentally found the toggle button to go back to the original graphics....it was shocking lol. Everyone is arguing over the slightest frame and pixel today...how do you think you'll react to the N64 faces?
I'm looking forward to trying this if it does come to fruition!
@FraserG that would really suck after all this time. I loved Goldeneye back in the day but recently plugged in my N64 to play with a few friends, to say it’s aged poorly is an understatement. It was borderline unplayable - A term I hate but in this case it really was true. Pretty please with sugar on top be the remastered version 🤞
Realistically, this won't be the 360 remastered version, but a new version ported for Xbox One/Series/PC. Which would explain why the achievements are different.
I'd assume this is actually a remaster in line with Quake. Using all the assets available to make the best possible looking and playing version of this game that they can.
There's absolutely no logical reason to assume they'd just lazily port the N64 version as it was.
@Richnj
100% it's coming to the Switch as well, and will feature online cross-play. That's why it's going to be an enhanced version of the N64 game, and not the 360 remake.
