This weekend's Xbox & Bethesda Showcase should be packed with games, especially those coming from Xbox Game Studios. However, it's looking like two already-announced Xbox reboots won't be appearing, according to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb.
Speaking on his latest podcast episode, the well-known leaker and journalist touched on what's to come at the showcase. Grubb said that while Microsoft could have shown off both Fable and Perfect Dark, the company has other projects to show that are further along in development.
"The two big games that I'm almost positive... they're not going to be there, and that's Perfect Dark and Fable, I've been able to track that down at least. Neither of those games are ready to be shown, they both need more time.
They could have got assets ready for them, they could've shown gameplay for both of these games, but, they have so many other things they need to show and they need to get out that it seems right they're going to side-line these games in favour of other stuff, and then next year come back with Perfect Dark or Fable."
While it's disappointing we might miss out on a Fable update, it's promising to hear that Xbox potentially has so much to show it can comfortable save it, and Perfect Dark, for another future showcase.
It's important to remember that none of this is official, and you never know, both of these titles could surprise us as the showcase. We'll find out for sure in just a few short days, when the showcase kicks off on June 12th.
Disappointed to hear that Fable and Perfect Dark might not show up? Let us know down below.

I don't really care for either franchise but I'm glad they're not being shown - if they're not ready, don't bother with a CGI trailer as they'll be forgotten quickly and the hype will quickly be lost.
The fact that Xbox have got their announcements out of the way today, and have enough for the showcase on Sunday is fantastic: so much for Xbox not having much, hey?
@Daniel1221 I refuse to be sure about that. I remember people saying the same thing about Nintendo doing a direct right before E3 "there must have plenty to show" and it was the muppet one. Great show, bugger all to show.
Note to be clear, I'm not saying that's the case here. MS has done "only gamepass" or "only games coming in X months" shows before, so today's news splurg fits.
I honestly have not been expecting either of these titles to be there.
As much as I’m excited for both games, I sort of have the feeling that Perfect Dark is struggling and Fable was probably announced too soon. I expect to see Fable in maybe 2024, and my Xbox is ready for that glorious day.
@abe_hikura I fully see your point and still steer on the side of caution but, as you rightly mention, things are looking good overall
Perfect Dark was apparently rebooted by Crystal Dynamics, what a shame of new studio The Initiative. I'm sure that Fable is doing much better but let's not rush that game, it needs to be perfect.
It's not surprising to me that Fable and Perfect Dark won't be there. I imagine games that will release from now until the end of 2023 only will show up.
I guess we might get those games later on
I shall hopefully enjoying playing them
On my Series Z 😂
I blame working from home since covid for most game delays and a drop in quality on all systems not just Xbox and their development studios.
We have now introduced WFH since covid that forced it initially. It’s a pain in the backside when it comes to certain things in my industry.
Some parents have dropped child care to save money etc and look after their children whist working. Some people don’t answer the phone.
Productive face time face meeting don’t happen when needed etc etc.
Get employees back in the work place and proper productive again that is what is needed in all industries.
@Dezzy70 Anecdotal example that counters current understood information.
But I guess it is easier blaming bettering people's lives than it is to acknowledge the fact that Microsoft has never been able to manage a product effectively. Particularly when it comes to the Xbox division.
When they're not mismanaging something they're busy forgetting what made people enjoy a product to begin with and releases something that ignores it all.
This has been done with pretty much every one of their franchises.
This has been going on since the original Xbox days with Halo 2 almost floundering and not even being released.
If they are not ready to be shown then I’m glad they are not showing them off. They showed off Halo long before it was ready and got a lot of negative feedback. (I know that they were going to release it shortly afterwards, but let the games build and develop farther before being seen.)
I personally wish Xbox would quit announcing games so far in advance. Maybe announce them a year out. They give out so many names years before they are ready. So many expect them to be released shortly afterwards and then claim “delay.” I’m looking forward to the show but wish MS would hold their cards closer to their chest. Maybe give a few that are years away, and keep the rest secret till a more appropriate time.
Wasn't really expecting to see these as I think they are unlikely before 2024 so not likely to have any worthwhile footage to show this year. Its not as if Microsoft are 'struggling' with games they could show that we know about. They obviously have 3rd Party developed partnerships - inc ID@Xbox, Xbox Published, Xbox Cloud Published and Xbox Marketed games they want to show.
Its not as if we don't know what most of the 23 Studio's have coming up 'soon' so I wasn't expecting to hear from those games that are not expected within the 'next' year to be at this show - only those they want to 'reveal' now and those that are releasing soon enough to have Game-play trailers because the rest don't 'need' another CGi trailer to remind people its still in development...
@InterceptorAlpha
Can’t disagree about Microsoft of late and their studio management. I probably have been one of the biggest critics on here about that and get beaten up on here when I mention it 😊.
But WFH has not had a good impact on this gaming industry or other the industry I’m in, it’s a pain in the back side from a working point of few compared to pre covid when WFH was less and only done of you could do all your job from home.
Now it’s used for many excuse reasons for those that don’t wanna come to work.
Not at all concerned. To me, the biggest concern I have at MS is for Everwild. It has gone very dark.
Perfect Dark already was a few years away. Fable, I expect it to be at next years June event.
