Earlier today, another huge gaming acquisition was revealed by Embracer Group. Okay, it's not Xbox-Activision Blizzard levels of huge, but the Swedish company is picking up all of Square Enix's Western studios. However, that doesn't mean that the Japanese publisher is completely cutting itself off from Western games, despite the sale.
In a response published by VGC, Square Enix reassured fans that the company will still be publishing some Western games, reeling off some its existing series'.
"Going forward, the company’s development function will comprise its studios in Japan, Square Enix External Studios, and Square Enix Collective [...] The company’s overseas studios will continue to publish franchises such as Just Cause, Outriders and Life is Strange."
So, there you have it. If you're a big fan of of any of these franchises, Square Enix is still looking to publish future games in those series', for now at least. It's the internal studios that are moving on, including IP such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and more.
If the acquisition goes through, Embracer Group will be responsible for funding and publishing games from these popular franchises, through one of its publishing arms which include THQ Nordic. Thankfully, that should lead to future Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Thief games remaining multiplatform unless any other deals go down!
What do you make of the news of yet another major acquisition? Let us know in the comments.

Just cause.... Stale
Outriders.... Meh
Life is strange.... Pretty good
Hopefully they put more resources now into some big JRPG's and go back to the square enix of the old days (technically square soft).
If they are serious about Western games though then they need to make some brand new IP's
Square should just stick to their strengths, we became fans of theirs because of their JRPG's, so I don't know why they were ever chasing western trends
Technically, Forespoken is more a Western game if I’m honest. I mean it had a team of people like Amy Henning and Gary Whitta writing it. I think Square Enix is going to position Luminous to work on their “Western” projects.
Square Enix will be Konami 2.0 if they aren't careful. FF is carrying that company now.
Can finally completely ignore square enix now they have no IP's I care about well except sleeping dogs but it's not like they'll ever make a sequel to that anyway
@Clankylad you had me confused with The Surge developers (Deck 13) for a minute there.
@Xiovanni IDK, between Just Cause 5, Outsomething, Life is Hipster, and NFTs I've never been more hyped for Square-Enix future!
