We've seen an awful lot of interest and general curiosity in the new xScreen device for the Xbox Series S here at Pure Xbox, and that seems to be translating to the wider Xbox community as well, with positive impressions so far.
The device, which allows you to turn your Xbox Series S into a portable-style console (albeit still requiring a power outlet) has a perfect 5/5 rating on the official UpSpec Gaming website at the time of writing, and lots of consumers have been taking to social media to share their praise for it, including former Gears of War chief Rod Fergusson:
You might recall that we reviewed the xScreen ourselves here at Pure Xbox last week, calling it a "brilliant plug-and-play companion," and stating that it "works so well with the Series S that it feels like an officially licensed product."
The folks at The Verge have been talking about it today too, giving it a slightly less impressive 6/10, but concluding that while it comes with a "high $249.99 price tag," it's also "an old-school idea, in a modern and well-executed package."
There are downsides to it, then, but the xScreen appears to be off to a good start. We'll have to wait and see whether the curiosity translates into actual sales, but it's nice to see that this thing actually lived up to the hype after all.

I voted that I wouldn't be interested, but that is not a knock against the product, it is just not something that I would need or use. However it looks like its a nice bit of kit so I hope that owners enjoy it.
Gonna be that guy, but this is very, very niche. You can get a 15" 1080p/60hz/hdr/freesync screen for $165+. Plugs right into the either usb port on the series s. Less obtrusive to the rear ports and can be used on the ps4/phone/pc/mac. Hell, BenQ makes some decent monitors with speakers for $40-50 more.
@PhhhCough It’s okay to “be that guy”. At least you make valid points that there’s cheaper and more compatible options out there. The only positive thing xScreen has in comparison is that it’s more portable and practical but that’s it. I have a Series X so xScreen isn’t even an option for me but I’ll be happy playing games on the go with something like a Razer Kishi.
Doesn't appeal to me as I have a Series X connected to a 55" TV and if I wanted a '2nd' next gen option for the bedroom, I have a 48" TV in there. I'm more inclined to buy a Gaming Laptop with DLSS etc for more 'portability', works with my Game Pass Ultimate Subscription and allows me to play games not on the Console too...
That being said, I can still see the advantages of that 'little' screen but not something I'm likely to want, need or use. I can see it being very 'useful' for some though...
overall a neat accessory but with remote access to my console, alot of titles avail via native cloud stream, and the ability to pair xbox controller to my ipad,i have to say using my 12.9" ipad pro with liquid retina display/etc makes it a bit redundant (no xbox to lug around either and i have ethernet adapter for ipad when i really want it to rock. but they get an A for effort!
There are two brilliant use cases that this is providing me personally: First it's plugged the couch coop gap in today's games, I sit next to my wife while she plays on the SX side by side, gamepass doubles in value on those games.
Second is travel, I am based in hotels a fare bit and it goes into my backpack with a power cord and controller with no reliance on choppy Internet connections to play most games I'm interested in.
I thought screen would be too small but playing FPS, 3rd Person and Isometric games with no issue, I have decent eye sight mind.
It's awesome. With a trip overseas coming up, my XBOX Series S "laptop" will be coming along.
Ordered mine last week after being on the fence. In shipping now! Can't wait to get it! Plan on a bunch of Off-grid and camping stuff this summer, should be ideal!
It's neat but I would rather just get a Steam Deck.
