While it might not be coming to Xbox consoles today, Total War: Warhammer 3 still serves as a major addition to PC Game Pass, launching day one into the service. And so far, the reviews from the critics have been outstanding.
Below, we've picked out some of the highlights from the 40+ reviews of the game on Metacritic, where it currently holds a very impressive score of 88. It's getting unanimous praise, and here are the reasons why:
The Guardian - (5/5)
"The continual design evolution of one project split over three full games and dozens of expansions makes me hesitant to call Warhammer III a landmark strategy game in its own right. But looking back now at that very first trailer, it does feel like a promise kept."
PC Gamer - (90/100)
"I've already sunk nearly 100 hours into Warhammer 3, which should give you an inkling of how much I'm digging it. And while I'm no longer as eager to go through the Realm of Chaos campaign again, that's only a slice of what Warhammer 3 is."
IGN - (9/10)
"With interesting campaign mechanics that build up rivalries between its memorable main cast and several new armies that don't play like anything we've seen in Total War before, it excels on just about every level, strategic and tactical. And a collection of little quality-of-life changes carried over from other recent Total War games tie the single-player campaign up with a nice little bloodsoaked bow."
Windows Central - (4.5/5)
"If you've played the past two games and enjoyed them, grabbing this is the easiest choice ever. If you're new but find yourself intrigued by what's on offer, I still recommend jumping in. All these improvements add up to what is already one of the best PC games for strategy fans right now. It's a phenomenal experience for Warhammer veterans and newcomers alike."
TheGamer - (4/5)
"Overall, Total War Warhammer 3 is a gift to its fans, a fitting send-off to the trilogy. The real going-away party arrives whenever Mortal Empires shows up, but for now, you can delve into the twisted Chaos Realm and get lost in sprawling battles and text-heavy menus, like any Total War fan."
VG247 - (4/5)
"Warhammer 3 is, frankly, an incredible package. It somehow manages to deliver multiple unique and satisfying campaigns, mostly without sacrificing their quality and depth in the process. Campaign and combat are expertly balanced – demanding but fair – with enough variety to make playing more than one faction worthwhile. More variety would be welcome in both faction characteristics and map design, but Warhammer 3 is still one of the most gratifying strategy games in recent years."
Total War: Warhammer 3's 88 rating on Metacritic places it into second position of the best games of 2022 so far, only losing out to Sony's God of War port. It's available to try right now on PC Game Pass, so what are you waiting for?!

Heard of the series, but I have no idea the genre/type of gameplay. Any comparisons from fans of the series?
@Bdbrady Total War games are pretty separate from most. I've only played the old one's from the 2000's, but mostly each side gets "groups" of units, like 3 groups of archers, 2 groups of infantry, 1 group of cavalry etc. And then you have to strategically position and attack with them to win. Terrain, elevation, unit counters, morale etc. are all taken into account on how well your troops do.
It's basically a complex battle simulator. But I believe newer Total War games also add elements of territory capture and map conquest alongside it. So you choose to attack a region on the map and whoever wins takes control. But I'm not 100% sure as it has been some years since I played.
This is an absolutely killer get for GamePass. I’m just super upset I have no way to play it. I tried TW Warhammer 2 on my Mac and that was NOT where it’s at.
I'm wondering how close my potato of a laptop gets to playing this.
@Bdbrady Tow forms of gameplay. Overworld which is like Civilization. Then combat, which is like a typical RTS.
I loved the first two. How does this work from the standpoint that the games can Co paigb for a super large campaign map? I have 1 and 2 on Steam. Will the Windows store version hook and pull the info from them?
