Very interesting news if you're a football / soccer fan, as it's being reported by Video Games Chronicle that Sumo Digital is working on a brand-new LEGO game based on the sport, and it's set to release later this year.
You might know Sumo Digital as the developer behind games such as Team Sonic Racing and Snake Pass, and while we don't have any details on the new title yet, it's reportedly targeting a launch to coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup which takes place this November and December.
There's also been a mention that guest characters from the likes of Marvel and Harry Potter could be involved.
It's not the only LEGO sports game that is reported to be in development, as the football game will apparently be followed up with a new open world racing game, followed by another title "based on a major sports franchise".
We're always interested in more football / soccer games, so let's hope Sumo Digital does a good job with this one!

At first I thought this was "American" football, ya know, since I live in the US, but being a UK site, I get it!
I dig it! I am so in for this!
However I now want an "American" football game. I can imagine NFL Blitz style play with incredible tackles that spill bricks everywhere! Madden 93 style meat wagon (ambulance) coming out to put the player back together. Power-ups with bricks being sent down from Zeus kinda stuff.
Lego + Football + Sumo Digital. I'm in!
Should be interesting to see how solid the wall is on free kicks. I think the defending team will have an advantage.
im willing to take a dive at a football game who doesnt take itself too seriously . I miss the good old NES football games such as captain tsubasa and Kunio kun soccer (or Goal 3 here in southamerica)
Sensible Soccer for the modern systems? I'm in!
The idea of Lego doing sports games is brilliant. Im in. Now the question is, will it have online play..?
Nice! The football game market is pretty much sewn up with FIFA, particularly after the god awful latest PES release, but it'd be fun to play something more arcade style.
