We've got some notable activity happening in the world of Sea of Thieves today, as the game is launching its first time-limited, narrative-driven adventure called "Shrouded Islands", which lasts from now until March 3rd.
The event sees you "meeting the enigmatic Belle and investigating the mysterious fog covering Golden Sands Outpost", with more adventures set to arrive roughly every month, each lasting for a minimum of two weeks. The idea with these is to make the game a "more dynamic place to explore", complete with "secrets to discover, battles to fight, rewards to earn and a unique cinematic trailer to introduce each Adventure".
You can find out more details on "Shrouded Islands" below, and you can watch the trailer above.
An ominous fog, a mysterious ally from the Sea of The Damned and an Outpost abandoned – the first-ever Sea of Thieves Adventure, 'Shrouded Islands', is now live and awaiting curious corsairs. See Larinna to get started but be swift, its secrets must be discovered by March 3rd!

Am very excited give this a try. If they're enjoyable will be good thing for Sea of Thieves.
I really like the idea of narrative adventures in Sea of Thieves but the limited time window stinks in my opinion. It's kind of like a limited time window book. I have fairly limited "spare time" and I might be in the middle of reading a book / playing a game already and I don't want to just drop that midway. People can watch old movies, read old books, even play older games typically, so only being able to play a part of a game for a few weeks just seems so limiting. So I hope the limited time windows don't hurt the possibility of more narrative options in the future (with hopefully more time & flexibility to enjoy it)
Interested to see how "Narrative Driven" it is as they've had story missions in the game for a couple years now so what makes these special?
In their preview event they talked about having players' actions impact the story so excited to find out how you do that with, supposedly, millions of players. If everyone's' actions make a difference then mine won't really.
Is it possible to enjoy this - or any Sea of Thieves content - single player? I just don't enjoy multiplayer gaming but this pirate stuff looks like a blast.
@nofriendo my honest answer is no. The game is absolutely incredible when played with family and friends but being a solo player in an open world against crews of up to 4 is not healthy.
Nothing worse than doing a mission on an island/underwater to return to your ship and find it sunk and another ship sailing off with all your loot.
The Pirates of the Carribbean stuff can be played solo though as it all takes place in unique instances just for you or crew.
I played this when it came out fresh, was ganked by another super equipped player, who never let me get away from the beginner island, so I uninstalled the game. That was my 10 minute experience with Sea of Thieves.
As someone who only quite recently got a Series S and, aside from an hour of Fortnite, never actually played a multiplayer-only game before, can anyone give me any tips or advice for playing Sea of Thieves for the first time?
I only play single-player games, but I’m really digging the look and vibe of Sea of Thieves and would love to try it. In the couple months I’ve had the little Series S, I’ve only played Forza Horizon 5 (over 30 hours so far!), Halo Infinite’s campaign and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Is Sea of Thieves something I might enjoy?
I'm looking forward to trying this, but I'm not certain I'll be able to get through it in the time limit.
@Zochmenos @SacredPYRO Thank you both for the input. You've confirmed my instinct. It's a shame, though I don't begrudge all the fun everyone's having multiplayer. I'll get my modern single-player pirate adventure one day.
@nofriendo Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, best single player pirate game ever made. Sea of Thieves is more a sandbox so you have to make your own fun.
@SacredPYRO I've encountered this sentiment all over the place, and even so I've yet to play Black Flag. I skipped all the generations between the N64 and the current one, and I'm afraid the mechanics and graphics might be too much of a turn-off. That and I found Odyssey and Origins so bland and bloated. I know they represent a departure from the series, but honestly it's hard to imagine Ubisoft doing better just on the evidence of those two games. Perhaps I just need to bite the bullet and give Black Flag a try, finally.

100% agreed.
@The_Pixel_King I have sea of thieves for switch and have played only the solo player and love it
