It was announced yesterday that Xbox boss and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer would be the next recipient of the prestigious AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, February 24th in Las Vegas, and many industry members have since been taking to social media to congratulate Xbox's head honcho.
Spencer has responded to many of these including 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski and Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford, along with Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann and current / former PlayStation executives including Shaun Layden, Hermen Hulst and Shuhei Yoshida. Quite the list!
As we mentioned yesterday, Spencer's reward is "reserved for individuals whose accomplishments span a broad range of disciplines over a lengthy career in the industry." Those who are selected to receive it (there haven't been many) are said to have "driven significant and positive change across the industry."
It's great to see the industry coming together to celebrate Spencer's achievements... we'd like to pass on our own congrats, too!

I don't get why this is even news, yes they work at rival company's but I imagine they all get on great when they do see each other, there not like the people on social media who nail there flags to the mast of a particular plastic box and will die for it.
It’s odd isn’t it. The heads of these platforms all act with humility and acknowledge and congratulate one another’s achievements. It has zero effect on how toxic the fanbase behaves at their most insecure.
Yet if Shu had messaged “stupid Xbot!” And Phil replied “shut up ponie!”…and Hermen Hulst was in the background picking his nose and laughing how Sony now owns Halo…you can guarantee the toxicity would grow tenfold amongst the fanbases
@Bleachedsmiles
I think there will always be a toxic part to fanbases. It is a given that there are certain people that choose not to be mature.
But, I have noticed change in the past couple of years as well. And with these multi-platform publisher and studio acquisitions it is beginning to show that these companies will still compete but have to work together as well.
And Jimbo is missing as always... Sometimes I wonder if Jim Ryan really works at PS or if he's just a contractor they hire to go over the financials and they call him "CEO" as an in-joke.
@Bleachedsmiles Shu's too busy trolling ponies with social media posts gloating about his launch day Series X and his pre-release Steam Deck running HzD on PC, to do console wars, lol. But now I actually do want to see them all screaming about xbots and ponies at each other. That would be hilarious.
@NEStalgia Well of course Jimbo is missing!!!
(but not for the reason you think. He's not on Twitter)
@themightyant Hah, well, that's one place I can actually take Jimbo's side, then, lol.
(Though he's probably not on twitter for the reasons we think, he probably just can't figure out out how to use it. He strikes me as the kind of guy that has his secretary write his emails for him.... )
Neil Druckmann is a rare one. He is politics suck, but genuinely seems to be a nice guy. So many people who share his outlook in the industry are full of venom and hate. Slow clap for Druckmann.
