It's still early days for the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077, which launched for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this past Tuesday, but based on the initial impressions we're seeing across the web so far, it's going down pretty well.
We've also been hands-on with it since yesterday, calling it a "major improvement" on Xbox Series X.
Over on social media, we've seen numerous Xbox owners praising the game's updated visuals on Xbox Series X in particular, both for the graphics-focused "Ray-Tracing" mode and 60 frames per-second "Performance" mode.
Even over on Reddit, the Cyberpunk 2077 community is generally very positive at the moment for the changes that have been introduced as part of Patch 1.5, thanking CDPR for the hard work that has been put into the game since its horrifically botched launch over a year ago.
No-one's kidding themselves that everything is perfect yet, but it's getting good feedback nonetheless:
The only consistent complaint we're seeing relates to the Xbox Series S version of the game, with fans disappointed that it's limited to just one graphics mode ("Performance") running at 1440p, 30fps.
If you fancy trying Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X and S for yourself, you can get access to a free five-hour trial between now and March 15th via the Microsoft Store, and the game is also on sale right now for 50% off the RRP.
How are you getting on with Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X (and S) so far? Tell us down below.

I downloaded both XSX & PS5 trial versions yesterday and gave them a go last night. On the whole I was much more impressed than I thought I would be. These were my initial thoughts:
PROS
CONS
CONCLUSION
I didn't notice any glaring differences between the two systems, though it's difficult to compare when not running side by side. FWIW I did think the DualSense features were pretty good.
Personally i'm going to wait for Digital Foundry or NX gamer to do a proper deep dive before picking a side. But I feel confident in saying it's FINALLY time to play this game! Better late than never.
I love it so far! (Series X)
Now the majority of CDPR can finally focus on content and more quality of life updates. Let’s see if they can pull a No Man Sky like return.
Make the City a live service game. This world has so much potential.
I would gladly buy old school expansions like in the Witcher 3.
Don't get me wrong the patch is great, I like how they've sorted the fixer quests and added more to the romance paths.
The problem, for me, is that it's all fresh playthrough stuff. Seems like a real missed opportunity to not have a new game plus in this patch.
Tried it on series s and it definitely need a 1080p 60fps option the aiming is awful and hard to play intense shooting and action sequence.
Hopefully someone like Digital Foundry are hard at work with testing to get the proper numbers and details like the technical wizards they are.
This will be the first time that I try this game (Series X). I want to see the Digital Foundry video already. In open-world games, there are many things that you don't realise at first.
I've finished the game in Nomad when it first came out. I've been waiting for this patch to start all over again as corpo, which I did yesterday. I like the improvements they made, but I still have a bit of frame drops in the city hub, I'm playing on my Series X in performance mode. Anyone else got that frame drop as well? I cannot play in raytracing mode, because I'm not used to play at 30fps anymore.
@djshep1973 I feel the same way about RTX in Cyberpunk. Started a Nomad storyline. The dusty, sun-baked desert looked so real around me, and the framerate made it cinematic. Still waiting to dive properly into Night City, and feeling frustrated by the aiming. Is it somehow different in this game? Why does it feel so difficult to aim well and shoot?
Going to start this on Series X at the weekend. Happy to hear it’s finally in a decent state! Looking forward to jumping in
No lies : I finally opened my sealed game, bought the very first day of launch, more than one entire year ago.
It's installing right now. To my great surprise, the game does not download itself entirely, like it usually does with next-gen updates and smart delivery. Here, the disc installs 30 gbs, and the rest is downloaded. Interesting.
Same question as always, thought : will I be playing in performance, or quality mode ? ^^
@djshep1973 @nofriendo There is no RTX mode on consoles. Consoles don't use Nvidia hardware. RTX is proprietary Nvidia tech.
Unfortunately raytraced shadows, as all that is supported by Cyberpunk on console pretty much provides very little difference.
If the reflections were Ray traced then I would have played that mode. As is though, the trade off from performance mode leaves me wondering "why even include this at all? “
Saw a dead T-Prone character laying flat on the city road last night. Deffo looked like a bug. First time playing it. Been in the box unused since December 2020. Looks great apart from that.
@A01 To be fair, the Series X version sticks mostly to 1440p, same as the Series S. The 4k bit is just for marketing since it is dynamic.
I continued my freshly started game in the last 2 weeks and my first word was, "wow". So I had recently seen both worlds and this change was very noticeable on my Series X. My only gripe was the wholesale change to the perks within each trait. I was refunded all my points back, but they had changed names and perks themselves. That made me a little sad as I had been working towards a Cold Blood perk, that now no longer exists. But all in all, a fantastic update.
@InterceptorAlpha I see! Wasn't aware of the difference between RTX and ray traced. Either way, the effect was certainly noticeable to me, though perhaps it contributes to the difficulty I'm having controlling my character through the more hectic portions.
I completed it on PC and Stadia back when it was touted to be unplayable. I tried playing it on my Series X yesterday, and then after 45 minutes I realised sht with a flower on top is still just a pile of sht.
I think it is very fitting that my only ever achievement is going to be "The Fool".
@thiz- Thanks for this post - you almost made me spit my tea out with laughter
I agree of course, a poorly conceived and designed game is still that, even if they get it partially working
It's running a lot smoother and feels like it should have originally. Only gripe I have is that there are still some glaringly obvious bugs that have yet to be ironed out. I failed one of the early gigs and restarted from checkpoint, the character I needed to interact with then completely disappeared, leaving me unable to complete it. Even going back to a much earlier save fails to resolve the issue. So frustrating because I'm really enjoying it now.
