Battle royale can be a tough market. Competition is fierce, with the likes of Fortnite, Apex Legends and Warzone ruling the roost. Ubisoft has learnt this the hard way, as its own Hyper Scape BR will close down after less than two years.
If you don't remember this one, we can't really blame you. Ubisoft brought Hyper Scape to market in August 2020, not long after Warzone started to really take off. Ubisoft tried to set itself apart by gunning for a more futuristic take on the genre, but it never quite clicked. Here's Ubisoft's rather brief closing message:
"Contenders,
We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.
To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished.
Reach out to us if you have questions.
Sincerely, Hyper Scape"
So, there you have it, another one bites the dust. Hyper Scape did at least try to do something different, but we can't say we'll miss it.
Although this marks another BR-shaped grave, that isn't stopping developers from tackling the genre head on. The most recent battle royale rumour doing the rounds is that Halo Infinite may well enter the arena sometime soon. Yep, we're well up for that.

Wow. Never hear of it. But I have no sympathy if they still force people to download the Ubi Connect app in order to play their games …
Ah yes, a title people has barely heard of.
@Alduin Couldn't agree more. While Multiplayer games definitely have a place in gaming, i much prefer single player/story driven campaign games that i can play alone and just get lost in the worlds and enjoy the story. I want to walk around a massive world and find collectibles and secrets and watch a story unfold. I want to start a game, and complete it alone because that is what gaming is to me. I may speak for myself here, but online games should be seperate from single player games. Give me a 20 hour Call of Duty campaign instead of a 3 hour campaign and online in the same game. Sorry for the rant.
@Alduin I actually have no problem with micro transactions and pay to win model games. If you dont like it, dont play it. But i truly love the single player games that take me 40 plus hours to beat. Hell, i have like 250 hours into Assassins Creed and am waiting for the next DLC to drop in March.
