Ahead of its launch tomorrow, Rockstar Games has shared a set of comparison videos for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, showing just how much the new versions have been improved.
Taking a quick look at all three games - Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - it's immediately clear how Rockstar has polished each title up. Featuring improved character models, lighting and a smooth 60 frames per second (on Series X), they're all getting a new lease of life.
Here they are in action:
Grand Theft Auto III
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Sometimes it takes a comparison to really take into account how much work has gone into a remaster. Some titles do very little, but it's surprising the lengths Rockstar has gone to here to bring us back to those original Xbox days.
Sure, some players would have loved nothing more than a fully-fledged remake of each title, but it's probably unrealistic to think that may happen. Not to mention it would be a lot of work. In all honesty, the improved visuals here are bordering on remake territory, and while they may not shape up against any modern-day games, they certainly don't look bad at all.
How do you think Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Editon looks? Drop us a comment and let us know.

Better than I had initially thought based on screenshots. Still waiting to hear reviews.
I thought it was only 60 fps on next gen consoles
Game pass 😀 people can see for themselves, sadly some will just complain for negativity sake.
I think it looks lovely
Nope, absolutely not buying this until is under £20 at max(looks like a cashgrab to me). I fully expect the PureXbox review to be 10/10, nonetheless😅.
@Sol4ris CEX will have it for 34.99 when everyone else has it for 20 quid in about April. Game will be 59.99 cause obviously.
@MyThoughts31
Yeah I'm good with April, my backlog is such that it would last me until April 2026😀.(earliest)
This feels more like remake than remaster, but if nothing changed on the story and gameplay, it's just an up-port in the end.
Interested to know which system I should buy this for, PS5 or Series X. But the FREE San Andreas on a Game Pass is a good place to start! Expecting the resolution & performance to be equal across the board, so I wonder if proper of use of the Dual Sense would separate it...
Lazy comment alert “cashgrab” and “under a tenner”…..
Its clear it isn’t a cash grab. That was the versions that were already up. A new control system. Overhauled graphics and lighting. Is not. Why people thought it would be a new art style…. How would it be the same game??!?!?
Great, still looks like an old game i have no interest in playing because i already played them once and they are not up to the Series X standard. If they were complete remakes from the ground up, then yes. But based off of this, Big no!
Wow.... Even less of a difference than initially expected. Yea, Vice City is the only thing I care about here. Bargain bin purchase for sure.
