The Xbox November 2021 update has been unveiled today, and it includes a whole bunch of new features including colour filters, updated audio settings, link sharing for game captures, accessibility improvements and much more.
Don't forget that Xbox Cloud Gaming has also arrived on consoles as of today, which isn't included in this rundown!
Here's a brief overview of what's on the way, with more details available at Xbox Wire:
New and improved color filters on Xbox Series X|S
"New and improved color filters are now available on Xbox Series X|S, make gaming easier for people with color blindness or color vision deficiency. This feature will work with current games, titles in the Xbox back catalogue, and will also help future games be more accessible."
Updated volume and audio output settings for all Xbox consoles
"A new streamlined audio experience is now available for all Xbox consoles with options like “Mute speaker audio when headset attached” in Additional options and a new Audio testing & details screen.
"The volume and audio output settings have been reorganized to make relevant settings easier to access and help optimize your audio experience."
New game accessibility feature tags in the Microsoft Store
"Game developers can now “tag” their titles with up to 20 common accessibility features used by the Gaming & Disability Community, making it easier for you to find content that meets your needs and learn about the accessibility of games directly on your console prior to purchasing them."
Controller firmware update
"The new firmware update for the Xbox One Wireless Controller with Bluetooth support, Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and Xbox Adaptive Controller delivers next-gen features previously available only on Xbox Series X|S controllers, including better cross-device connectivity and reduced latency."
Xbox app (mobile) – Link sharing and trending
"We want to make it as easy as possible to share your game captures with friends, wherever they happen to be. Link sharing is coming soon and lets you quickly get a link to your epic game moments and screen captures and share them anywhere across the internet.
"Another feature on the way is the ability to see the top trending content from Xbox gamers spotlighted in the Xbox app, where you can watch, like, comment, and share posts of other player’s game captures."
Xbox Game Pass – Find the best plan for you
"We’re introducing a new design that allows us to display more info about each available Xbox Game Pass membership on console. We’ve added more details on what’s included for each plan and the plan comparison page now supports horizontal scrolling to compare benefits. Our goal is to make it easier for gamers to pick the right plan for them."
Which of these new features are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below.

The audio one was most anticipated for me. I hate that the sound cane out of both the TV and my headset. I especially hated the trolling about muting the TV when I asked if there was a way to turn it off! Like I want a f***ing mute symbol flashing when I'm playing games. 🙃
Pick right game pass? How about games pass ultimate or game pass at reduced price for buying year or more at a time?!?
Is that available? If so it is overdue
Not a single thing on this list is something that I will use or be interested in.
@GuyinPA75 Check out black Friday deals. Last year game stop and a few others were selling the $45 3-month cards for 20-25 bucks each. And there's a trick on the MS store where if you turn off auto renew before you redeem a code each time, it'll ask if you want an extra month if you turn it back on. Basically a full year for around 60-75 bucks!
I would like achievements to be refreshed. I have 3 beefs.
1. The way they are displayed and buried in awkward menus.
2. No separation between main game and dlc achievements.
3. No upper limit or 'platinum'.
@Alpha_Pulse couldn't you've just manually turned your tv's volume down instead? That way you don't see the muted icon.
@Rural-Bandit I completely agree lol, only got 50 hours in gears so far but whenever I play and see one of those random 5g cheevs pop it just weirds me out. And that distinction between dlc and main game REALLY needs sorting out. Doesn't even look like I've played a game sometimes...
I'm hoping the controller update will finally allow me to connect it to a Chromebook for cloud gaming.
@Chitobandito You sir/ma'am are officially on my Christmas card list. 👍🏻
@GuyinPA75 Lol. Wish you luck with them deals!
@Cherip-the-Ripper I did try but it once it's as zero it mutes anyway. Have to keep it at 1 to prevent that. I never understood why it wasn't an option anyway. It's like listening to music on your phone but it plays on the loudspeaker option too. It's such a minor thing but sometimes it's just the simple things that make a difference, at least for me.
@Alpha_Pulse totally agree
@Cherip-the-Ripper it takes forever on some devices. And it wasn’t the end of the world just one of those minor inconveniences but now it’s going to be better at least. And it standardises with most other devices.
@BundyDanger I wrongfully assumed no tv would work the way Pulse's does. I mean I know mine doesn't so I get now why this was even added.
@Alpha_Pulse You don't get a mute sign if you turn the volume down to 0 lol! But, it is a nice feature that makes for less steps.
@Benjamin I agree. I would also love to separate online achievements from the rest. And a timecounter thaut isnt broken by the quick resume feature. I remember seeing som fan made achievement list and it had all these things you mentioned plus more and it looked glorious.
@Trmn8r on mine it does! 🤪
@Alpha_Pulse Your tv sucks then Glad this fixes your problem then.
@Benjamin Not to mention for whatever reason the game tiles aren't in 4K on the achievements page. You can clearly see they are blurry in comparison to the tiles everywhere else. It's weird that somehow got overlooked as everything else is in 4K it seems.
As for other achievement related stuff, yes, they really need to separate the main game and the DLC somehow. Say what you want about PlayStation, but the way they list the trophies on the PS5 is fantastic. Really clean and plenty of information all right there.
It's also a shame some developers have gotten lazy over the years and stopped bothering with progression tracking. There's still a decent amount overall, but it's not almost a lock that a game will provide it like they used to back when the Xbox 360 was the main platform for games. It's also weird when games like Valhalla have partial tracking, where some of the cumulative achievements have tracking but others don't.
@Rural-Bandit I'm 100% with ya bud, we think very alike. I've got loads of games with less than 10% of trophies achieved. Being able to delete those would go a long way, especially the ones that randomly give you like 6/12 gamerpoints and ***** up your total amount.
Finally the low latency update for Elite controllers. Been waiting since the announcement ages ago. I'm hype.
@Trmn8r clearly! 😆
“Mute speaker audio when headset attached.” Thank god, not a day too soon.
Having to always zero out the volume every time I connected my headset was really bothersome. Especially since I tend to switch over to Netflix after a gaming session, then I had to manually crank up the volume again.
@Rural-Bandit Yeah. I haven't played rdr2 myself but I do like how they have separated the online from the campaign. I really wish this would be standard. First time this annoyed me was when I played Black Flag on PS4 (I got in late) and I unlocked all the offline trophies but platting it would be damn near impossible due to the online trophies.
Speaking of Gears of War, Gears 5 achievement list is a mess. Haha.
Xbox is crushing it right now.
@Rural-Bandit It's nothing that would get me to stop playing my Series X, but it will still always mystify me that they somehow missed them when this was even in beta for weeks/months before they released the updated dashboard.
As for deleting games that you've only gotten a small amount of achievements for, like you said, I wouldn't hold my breath on it ever happening. It's basically a general rule that you can only delete them if you have yet to get an achievement. It's the same on PlayStation unfortunately. There are several games I tried that I ended up not liking, but got at least one achievement because some games give at least one out pretty early on.
@Alpha_Pulse The mute logo can usually be bypassed by just turning the actual volume to 0, in case you didn't know.
Edit: Ah nevermind, saw the reply above.
@PopularCorpse I think I have a crap TV hahaha
