Update: 343 Industries has now begun rolling out this update for Halo Infinite, with the key detail being that the new "Play 1 Game" Daily Challenge has been added, worth 50XP each time. Here's the full rundown from the Halo team:
"HaloInfinite players can now earn XP by completing matchmade games. The "Play 1 Game" Daily Challenge is worth 50 XP each. The Challenge deck is also being updated to better serve players of all skill levels."
"The #HaloInfinite team has also resolved issues with the following Challenges which were causing progress to not be tracked: Heat of the Moment, It Bears Repeating, Jorge Would Be Proud, and Ultra Tech."
"Additionally, XP Boosts will now last for 1 hour rather than 30 minutes. The in-game tooltip may continue to show 30 minutes as their expected duration, but the Boost's timer will start from 60 minutes once activated."
Original story: Following on from 343's comments yesterday about how it was looking "very closely" at Battle Pass progression in the Halo Infinite multiplayer, it's now shared some plans for what's to come.
343 community manager, John Junyszek, issued a series of Tweets confirming updates are on the way, and that it's just the "first step" to continue evolving the game's systems. Here's the message in full:
"To address the feedback on Battle Pass progression we will be making targeted tunings to our model later this week. To start, we'll be adding "Play 1 Game" challenges to help make sure you consistently progress through the Battle Pass by playing matches the way you want."
"We'll also be adjusting, fixing bugs with, and removing some Weekly Challenges based on your feedback. These tunings to challenge difficulty will help you progress through Weekly Challenges faster and thus directly speed up your progress through the Battle Pass."
"When we make this update, we'll need to reset your Challenges, including your progress towards Weekly ones. To make up for this reset, we'll be granting this week's Ultimate Reward, the Sigil Mark VII Visor, to everyone who logs in from Nov 23 - Nov 30."
"Additionally, we will be doubling the duration of 2XP Boosts to now last 1 hour as opposed to 30 mins. We hope this helps people get the most out of them, especially during those longer BTB sessions."
"We'll be watching these changes closely to make sure they have the positive impact we all want on your progression. This is only our first step - we are committed to continue evolving these systems but it will take time. Thanks for joining our beta, and keep the feedback coming!"
As noted, players will receive an ultimate reward when Challenges are reset. Once again, it's also the "first step" - with plans to continually evolve the game's systems over time.

Wow, I am surprised that they reacted that fast. I am glad to see that they are taking players feedback so serious.
Be humble, listen, learn, improve. Great stuff 343
@jrt87 Why? Well it is a free to play game that still costs money to develop and run. They need to make profit somehow and doing it with just cosmetics that do not have any effect on your gameplay and dont make you any stronger than those who dont pay is ok and I don't see how anyone can have a problem with it.
It's a good start, but I would like to see XP rewards for contribution to a match. For example, small XP rewards for medals, placement in the scoretable, win bonuses etc. Reading on Reddit some people were playing long, drawnout matches in BTB, only to result in a draw and everyone only getting 100xp as they hadn't fullfilled any Weekly Challenges, yet they had a high medal count / KDR.
Well that was fast! Glad they are listening!
I'm having a blast playing and to be honest I haven't felt like this on a multiplayer game for a long long time...
@jrt87 Microsoft does have money but they need the money to develop further in all their businesses. 23 million GP subscribers doesn't mean that this much goes to your pocket to spend for whatever. You need to pay the employes, you need to pay for the infrastructure that keeps it going and so on. You also need money in your bank account for tougher times or further investments. We all know they don't make money from selling consoles so they also need to cover that somehow. When making games, you need the game to make enough money to pay for itself, otherwise you won't continue with it as its simply not profitable and noone likes loosing money even if they can afford it. Making a singleplayer game is one thing but making a multiplayer game that needs to be tweaked, developed and needs to run on servers that also cost money, you need to continually make money to pay for all that. Asking why would someone hide things you dont need behind a paywall seems just dumb to me, the answer is quite obvious.
@jrt87 oh no I totally agree with the progression being bad as it is now, I just understand why parts of the battlepass are hidden behind paywall. I also agree that it will be dust on the floor for Microsoft, but not for 343 Industries, they do belong to Microsoft but they do want to make their money with their product that pays their employees and services before the rest heads to Microsoft wallet after it covers what it needs to cover.
Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mechanics and feel is the best the series has been since Reach, and it’s free to play. I’m okay with them taking time to sort out cosmetics. I play Halo because it’s fun.
Only got an Xbox few months back, I was looking forward to playing halo after hearing so many good things about it, didn't finish the first game as I got bored and thought it might be because it was a bit old now. Gave halo a go last night and I just don't get what is so great about it tbh. Had to empty pretty much a full clip to kill anyone in it, don't know it might be me missing something with it, I just found it a bit bland tbh. So if anyone can enlighten me, am I missing something do I need to upgrade weapons or something to kill people quicker. I just prefer few shots and dead more than bullet sponge.
@Daleaf That's just how halo combat has always been. Shooters with one shot kills are a dime a dozen, Halo's combat style has always been more about positioning and using multiple pieces of your arsenal to take the enemy down. Maybe it's too slow for some modern players, but for me, who grew up on Halo 1 and 2, it feels good to be back!
@JohnyHalo cheers mate, yea I think I just prefer the few bullet kills, just wasn't sure if I was missing something, and probably because I haven't played it before just felt a bit slow. Will try and give it another go to see if it clicks now that I know that's the type of game it is. But the feel/movement felt great so maybe just something to get used too, and to be fair I had just been playing cod before putting it on lol
@Daleaf Cheers, hope you are able to have some fun with it! Grenades are your friend, and if you are in close quarters you almost always want to melee to start or finish a kill. Also once the beta ends and they open up more online playlists, you can pick and choose the game/objective types that you find fun. for now you kinda just have to take what you get. One of my favorites in Halo 3 / Reach was Rocket race. Teams of two race on the mongoose, with one driving and one wielding a rocket launcher, it was chaotic nonsense.
Brilliant thanks, yea I was wondering how to choose certain game modes. But will definitely give it another try either tonight or over weekend 😁. Starting to get hooked on Forza at the moment too.
What is a Battle Pass? ...
The quick response is great, but it's a shame that so many complaints were raised in Insider and not fixed in the public beta!
I assume this was a server side update, rather than a downloadable patch? I saw the 50xp per match droppped last night, so I'm guessing this was implemented then.
I would just like to log on and play. I had one good day of playing but the first day and again yesterday I kept on getting "multiplayer is currently unavailable. Please try again later" is anyone else having this problem? I keep resetting the game and even the console itself, but the problem persists. Online works for other games. Thanks.
@lokozar it’s like a progression system used by live service games these days. A player will unlock items at certain levels. There are typically free and premium rewards.
I think Fortnite popularised the idea and others have taken the concept on in their own way. Typically a battle pass will have a theme and will last for 3 months hence why it is also called a season pass. Usually a battle pass will expire after the season ends encouraging regular player engagement. Halo Infinite’s battle pass do not expire and can be purchased after a season is typically over.
@ParsnipHero
Thanks. I think, I'm getting old. ._.
