The latest entry in the Age of Empires series has gone down a treat ever since it launched on PC with Xbox Game Pass last week, but unfortunately the game (and the series as a whole) has yet to release on Xbox consoles.
There's been very little talk about a potential Xbox version up until now, but in a recent interview with Multiplayer.it, Age of Empires 4 creative director Adam Isgreen suggested the team is interested in porting the game across:
"As soon as we finish managing the game's PC release, we'll start thinking about how to make the game run on consoles. We don't have any final plans yet, but now we're really going to start thinking about it."
Age of Empires 4 has got off to an impressive start on PC, most notably on Steam, where the game recorded a peak player count of almost 74,000 players over the weekend. That doesn't even include Xbox Game Pass for PC figures.
As you might expect, it's also dominating the Top Sellers charts, indicating there's definitely a lot of excitement and interest surrounding this latest instalment. It sounds like the perfect candidate for an Xbox console port, then...
Are you hoping Age of Empires IV comes to Xbox consoles? Let us know down in the comments below.

I really would love to see this on the Xbox. I have it on the PC, but using a mouse and keyboard on an armchair is rarely easy, so a controller would be vastly more preferable...
I say give it 6 months with a E3 announcement and a series x only release in November 2022
That's, sorta good news? That they're gonna think about it is a double edged sword. I'm glad they are, but only just now? That would put this a year off at least.
@RedKnight34 Yeah, I'd guess they'd make this a Series X|S only release, as they will probably want to push the new consoles next year.
It could run on XBO though, it's not terribly demanding in terms of hardware, less so than Halo Infinite for example.
@Krysus I'd guess PC is by far the priority for this kind of game, you'd probably get less than a quarter of the playerbase actually playing this on an Xbox. Similar situation to devs usually prioritizing Windows over Mac and Linux (Which often see releases several months later). There's still some stuff with the PC version they need to add really though. Right now there's no way to pause in a multiplayer match, and no way to save a multiplayer match either. Both of which were in previous entries of the series, so it's a shame they're not present. Pausing is kind of essential if you're playing a 2+ hour game with friends.
@Krysus it’s a PC game at heart, it’s no bad thing they focused on making it perfect on that platform before making it work on console.
Yes please, XBOX game studios make it happen.
Really would love this.
Got a wireless keyboard and mouse hooked up to my XSX (with a lap board for comfortable use on the sofa) so really hope with this and CK3 they'd give the option to use controller or K+M.
Civilisation doesn't and it's a pain
I'll definitely play this if it's coming to Xbox Series !
@Zag_Man Hell yeah, you've just said everything, pal !
Yes! My incessant ramblings have started to wear thin on microsoft! Now, if we could just get a max payne hd trilogy!

So judging by Gears Tactics, we may see a release on Series X|S around summer/fall 2022. Definitely don't see a XB1 release happening but to be honest the only XGS games I see getting a XB1 release after 2021 is if Grounded 1.0, As Dusk Falls or CrossfireX (all 3 already have XB1 versions confirmed) get delayed to 2022 or later.
I know people are interested on playing it on Xbox, but I like the prospect of having this game on Streaming for non-Windows computers too.
