Double Fine's Psychonauts 2 has been a long time coming, but it's finally arrived on Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming today, and a PS4 version is also available (playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility).
To commemorate the launch, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst has made a point of congratulating both Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Double's Fine Tim Schafer, acknowledging the game has enjoyed a "great reception".
Indeed, Psychonauts 2 has got off to a great start with the critics, scoring a rare 10/10 rating here at Pure Xbox, and currently sitting on a Metacritic average of 87 for Xbox Series X, making it one of the best-rated games of the year.
The PlayStation 4 version of Psychonauts 2 can't quite live up to the lofty heights of the Series X and Series S versions (even when played on PS5 through back compat), but it seems like everyone's enjoying it so far regardless.
How are you getting on with Psychonauts 2 so far? Let us know down in the comments and poll below.

I imagine this has hurt the minds of some certain types of people. I like this news. It's wholesome and shows that Spencer's way of doing things is influencing others into being more positive =)
Good to see, though, we don't see this often from PS, and this happens to be a game also launched on PS, so it kind of reads like "Hey Phil, thanks for the cash injection during our drought!"
Nice to see some class from Hermen Hulst.
When the competition does well, it pushes everyone to strive for better.
Always nice to see companies pat each other on the back from time to time. Might pick this up on my PS5 at some point, recently finished the first one and enjoyed it a lot although it was straining on the eyes!
@NEStalgia I wish people kept the energy for Sony drought as they do Nintendo or MS. But nobody scrutinizes Sony. Lol
Always good to see this sort of positive competition.
The industry is constantly growing, there's more than enough room for several different players, and as consumers we benefit, ultimately we're stronger together.
@IronMan30 LOL, yeah. Though in fairness to Sony and its fans, nobody does a drought quite like Nintendo where there's literally just nothing for like a year and a half, nor any PR statements, and then they troll the audience with some ancient overpriced port, a budget spinoff literally nobody asked for, or a limited edition vinyl wrist watch that plays Ice Climbers. It feels like the kids in the school bus mooning the car behind them and laughing hysterically.
Sony at least randomly drops a hyped mega blockbuster in February while nobody's watching and then goes silent until Christmas.
But their droughts are pretty ugly at times. R&C was their last major game for 2021 - not even a holiday blockbuster. Not even a holiday B-side. Just....nothing but GTAV, FIFA and CoD! Nobody seems to mind.
"Well, look at the 3 blockbusters we got a year and a half ago! That was epic! No rush for new games..."
"But....Xbox just dropped Flight Sim, Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5, Quake remaster, new Doom Eternal DLC, a new Skyrim bundle with PS5 patch, and 73.6% of Halo Infinite...."
"LOL
XBOX HAS NO GAMES!I'm not getting suckered by Game Pass ruining the industry! I won't support that nonsense, soon they'll delete all our games, you'll see! Ready for GoT paid patch for improved vibrator and Japanese lipsync! HOLIDAY GOTY!"If we could merge the more toxic fanboys of the PS cult with the Pokemon, Smash, and Undertale cults, the would would be a better place

@NorrinRadd great, one video. You proved me wrong.
@NEStalgia I frankly think every company deserves Nintendo-level scrutiny, but the internet disagrees.
