No sale on Wolfenstein 2 season pass 😭. I feel like I might as well get the digital deluxe edition at that price as I think it's cheaper than the season pass has ever been by itself. I won't get much use out of my physical copy then!
Edit: just checked psprices and it looks like the standalone season pass was £6 on Xbox last december 🤔, maybe I'll hold out a while longer!
Nier: Replicant on sale finally! Now that I'm picking it up, watch it show up on Game Pass in a month or two
Not a great sale being honest.
But when you got GPU it doesn’t seem to get better than that.
Not a lot here for me. But there’s a few ok deals for those who aren’t into the sales every week.
To be honest I won’t be buying many games for a while Game Pass is stacked and my backlog is longer than ever! Happy gaming everyone
I have waited forever for a wrc 9 sale. I’m sad
Also on sale many Japanese RPGs: Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tales of Vesperia, Octopath Traveller...
@ralphdibny im going to get the deluxe edition while on sale for the season pass and just sell my physical copy of wolfenstein 2
I wish it was live for Australia. Sigh
So much to choose from, yet I have either already got what I want or Game Pass has simply spoiled me. Hmm.... another year of Game Pass it is then!
Anyone get the feeling Microsoft has made Xbox sales worse over time to try and convince people to subscribe to Game Pass much like how Games With Gold quality has plummeted over the same timespan because of Game Pass?
I got dying light, and the two star wars unleashed games. And now they will live in my backlog forever
@SoylentGreg I bought it at launch and its a great game. Way to repetetive though. Wish it had chapter select like Automata so you could unlock all the endings quicker. And yes, it will definetly come to GPU down the line.
@sixrings Afraid you’ve missed out on an amazing sale for WRC 9 back in April when it was £3.19!
Is the COD: Modern Warfare campaign worth £20? I have £10 worth of gift cards.
Overwatch is £12.49. Nice price for anyone that’s not yet tried it.
Quite the haul I got. Jedi fallen order, both kotors, judgement, crash, the Witcher 2, the combo of legion and Valhalla, kingdom hearts.
Thank god I didn't buy Mortal Kombat 11 in the previous sale, I can get the Ultimate Edition now. Also the Witcher 3 price is crazy good for that game and also a free next gen upgrade when it comes
@trev666 Hmm, yeah I might take the hit so I don't have to use the disc when I eventually come to play it. Probably won't sell the disc though, I like the look of the small Wolfenstein collection on my shelf 😅
$7 off a terrible game like Biomutant is one of the highlights?
@SplooshDmg I agree. Also, I was comparing this sale with others and it's not worse. It's just that we have bought lots of these games or they are on Game Pass.
I usually try to pick up lego games during these sales and I’ve been waiting on Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Glad to finally get it on sale!
@The_New_Butler I’ve been looking at Death’s Door. How frustrating is it? I get about an hour or 2 in the evening and my job is pretty high stress. I don’t want to spend 2 precious hours picking up pieces of my controller.
@Grumblevolcano ehh Well but it’s not Gamepass; in fact a good chunk of the games on sale are on Gamepass already, so it’s not Gamepass.
Part of the issue is it’s the same titles are off on most platforms because it’s same third party publisher on sale. Also, there haven’t really been too many new games to discount. Square is discounting Nier Replicant and that’s never been on sale yet and new. But how many new games really releases this year on Xbox? The summer sale is vastly better than the E3 one; trust me that; a few indies are actual there like Nowhere Prophet and Haven. And I don’t remember either of these being on sale recently could be wrong.
@Grumblevolcano Not at all. These are the exact same discounts these third party games receive on PS and Microsoft first party games get discounted way more than PS first party games.
Woo, cyberpunk for just under $50! BWHAHAHA I can't believe I said that with a straight face. Wake me when it's $14.99.
@Grumblevolcano I cynically thought of that, but if you look at the PSN sales (and eShop sales) it's been dire everywhere. I miss the era when games were on deep sales often. I don't think it's the platforms, I think it's the publishers. Probably driven by the fact that games buying is at an all-time high, and most publishers are running on long delays without much new content coming, they don't want to reduce margins on existing games as much anymore, while also raising price points. Maybe it's better on Steam? But it seems like in general they've suddenly halted the race to the bottom and embraced the Nintendo model that any game is worth high prices forever.
At least until they start having tons of new content to promote and the old stuff starts languishing.
I think the old era of cheap (non-subscription) digital games is over. It was supposed to be cheaper than physical. I think it's forever more expensive and the "Steam sale" coming to console is done. (Maybe the Steam sale coming to Steam is about done, too. Publishers probably finally realized the race to the bottom ends nowhere.)
Sort of self-defeating though. The higher they keep prices, and the more competitive streaming gets, all it will do is funnel more customers into subscription platforms, into which they'll probably stay. Weening people away from buying and into 3rd party smorgasbords is the last thing these publishers really want.
@RBRTMNZ True.
Nintendo's games? You're lucky if you get 33% off four years later.
@The_New_Butler Thanks for the explanation. I think I’ll give it a go.
Much appreciated.
@SplooshDmg You can always find use for a nice looking limited edition video game themed coaster! $10 may seem like a lot of much, but there's a lot of coffee rings that won't hit your desk now!
@BlueOcean Yup. There are so many Nintendo games like Luigi’s Mansion and Astral Chain that I would get on sale for $20-30 on any other console by now but it’s never happening on switch.
@SplooshDmg Hey, you paid $10 for a PC game copied to console, and you got a PC game copied to console. Everyone's happy.
(Except PC buyers that got a mediocre to average game when they were expecting the immersive revolution gamers have demanded since Holodecks were invented....)
@RBRTMNZ Luigi's Mansion and Astral Chain are among the few Switch games that are probably worth full retail price along with BotW and FE3H
@NEStalgia But how lovely would they look on Series X? Or 400p-Xenoblade Chronicles 2...
@BlueOcean They'd look exactly like Castlevania Mirror of Fate HD on Series X: an uprezzed 3DS game.
Has anyone played mad max I have been on the fence for that game for a long time is it fun or not really?
@VisitingComet1 I haven't played through all of it, but what I have played surprised me, it's actually pretty good. It's not a game based on the movies or anything, it's it's own take on the original material and comes together pretty well as a game.
@VisitingComet1 Yes. It is an underated game. a bit repetitive but If you like the MadMax universe, you should play it.
Thanks for the responses guys I think I will jump in
@RBRTMNZ @NEStalgia Honestly, I'd probably buy every (or almost every) 1st party Nintendo title if they launched at $40 instead of $60. Instead, I've passed up on many and mostly use my Switch for indies and a small handful of 1st party games.
@NotoriousWhiz Yeah that's just it! In the 3ds and Wii eras I bought almost literally everything at $40-50. I'd wait for games that interested me, be pre-order the entire catalog at e3 and actively check the new releases in case I missed anything. Or was justifiable. Early switch era, Amazon and BB had 10% off and I still bought most everything. Then they stopped and I switched to digital, and thought the sales would make it work. But Nintendo doesn't do sales and other companies have cut back on sales. I started buying a lot less. Now with $70 prices and a backlog for a lot of companies I buy next to nothing except a few things I really wanted, and check game pass for other stuff. I've probably reduced game spending at least $600 a year as they raise prices, maybe more. I'm actually shifting to xcloud streaming away from switch to an extent.
I guess these companies know their cash flow. I'm sure for each of us that stop buying 10 games because of the cost increase, there's 1000 players that only buy 2 games a year no matter what and that extra mandatory milking pulls more money than seelling more games to us. But it does feel like lost sales should matter. Maybe a discount membership club. Charge us money to send us coupons. Sounds very Nintendo. GameStop actually does that with Pro subs and monthly coupons.
If course Nintendo did the weird vouchers... Then decided in the US we don't need incentives so they took them away (but kept them in Europe)
@NEStalgia Nintendo has a tendency to take away all buying incentives from the NA market that includes vouchers but also things like collectors editions etc. Which tells me we are just a cash cow for them.
@mousieone It's honestly offensive. They openly flip off customers because bean counting determined the bottom line will be sufficient with minimal service. It's one thing if the whole company doesn't do incentives as a policy, but it's another when a company in plain sight says you don't get incentives in your market because we're happy with revenue from you, but other markets get them. It makes visible the penny pinching cost benefit nickel and diming. Then again Europe is getting screwed by Sony on an unimaginable scale by pegging prices against USD.
@NEStalgia Same. I had best buy unlocked for the first year the Switch was out (20% off all physical games) and that was when I bought the most amount of games. I also bought the vouchers when they released those but they only did that once. Now I wait for discounted eshop cards from Costco and combine that with the Nintendo discount of 25-33% off their older titles and that's when I'll snag them. Obviously, this only happens once or twice per year, which basically means I'm only buying 1st party games once or twice per year (with very few exceptions) instead of the 7ish that I bought in the first 9 months.
