Update (Thu 10th Jun, 2021 19:50 BST): It has been confirmed as part of today's Summer Game Fest 2021 'Kickoff Live' event that Sable will be releasing on Xbox and Xbox Game Pass on September 23rd. Exciting stuff!
Original story: Sable has already been confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, and judging by this new gameplay, we're certainly in for a treat.
Courtesy of IGN, the 13 minutes of absolutely gorgeous footage does an amazing job of showcasing the unique visuals. Every frame looks like a painting, complimented by the character's unusual movement which is reminiscent of stop motion. Its previously been mentioned that one of the biggest influences was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which one of the game's creators, Gregorios Kythreotis, revealed in an interview with GamesRadar back in 2018.
"It came while watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, actually. When Rey is on Jakku. The idea was, what if she never left? I initially thought of the game as an isometric clicker game where you’re just looting old fallen things and you come back and you sell what you loot and that was it. But then I thought, what if this was a fully 3D thing and you’re driving directly between these locations rather than it just being a cutscene, and it just spawned from that."
Perhaps another striking resemblance is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which many of Sable's gameplay elements look similar to. Not only does the introduction to the game harken back to Breath of the Wild, but you'll also be able to climb everything the same way, explore temples, and cross a gorgeous open-world.
Sable is definitely looking like one to keep our eyes on. With it arriving day one into Xbox Game Pass, it'll hopefully engage a wider audience who will embrace its stunning art style. The game has been delayed until sometime in 2021, so we may be hearing about a release date this coming E3.

Now I don't like to be negative but....
Not sure I like the art style.
That pop in is very distracting.
The walking animation is pretty awful.
So far... not one that I'll be looking out for, but lets see what people say when they have played it.
Glad it's coming to game pass. Definitely want to try it out. Art style reminds me of some great illustrators in comics. World looks a little empty and animation looks a bit clunky.
@JetmanUK I kinda love it for the reasons you don't. It reminds of Ico, but more generally. I think the slightly off-walking style is charming.
Compare this one to something like Alpha Protocol's crouching animation - which is hilarious.
Soooo, does this game have like any combat or enemies? Or is it just a fetch quest in an empty world game?
Looks pretty boring based on that video
I see it's divisive here but I LOVE the art style, genuinely unique. How often does that happen nowadays. Looking forward to playing this on the gift that keeps giving, Game pass.
@themightyant I like the art style fine. But what is it exactly that you do in the game? Looks super boring.
@Trmn8r EXPLORE!!!
But I get it "one man's trash is another man's treasure", I find online matchmaking boring but people sit though it for hours a night
@themightyant Lol! Who said anything about online matchmaking? Some creatures and combat tho would be nice vs empty desert fetch quests, which is all it gave us in the video. This is not BoTW-like other than being open I guess. But, hey if you like it, go for it.
The point was different people like different things. Some like Fornite and Warzone with the (to me complete waste of time that is matchmaking), others like big grand adventures, some like stories and walking simulators.
I don’t know if I’ll like it based off the trailer but it shows enough to get me to pay attention, and as it’s included on game pass give it a go.
"one of the biggest influences was Star Wars: The Force Awakens..."
"Perhaps another striking resemblance is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild..."
I'll take the latter. For real. 😒
@JetmanUK I find the art style to be refreshing.
I firmly agree about pop in.
The walking animation is unusual and at first I thought it is bad but maybe it is good to have something different for a change.
So a different take on moonlighter? I'm game.
