If you love Halo, Marty O'Donnell needs no introduction. Back in the day, he composed all of the iconic tunes featured throughout the series and eventually moved across to Destiny, which was also developed by Bungie.
In somewhat sad news, he's today shared a message on social media mentioning how he's thinking about retiring from the video game industry for good.

Here's where it gets interesting, though. In a follow-up tweet, he said he would soon be "forced" to shut down his entire YouTube channel. And then in another tweet, he told fans to "ask Pete Parsons" about what's going on. Parsons, in case you didn't know, happens to be the CEO of Bungie.
While it remains unclear what exactly is going on, there's been bad blood between O'Donnell and Bungie for a number of years since he was fired from the ex-Halo developer in 2014 "without cause".
How would you feel about this legendary composer calling it a day? What else do you think might be going on? Share your thoughts down below.

Bungie somehow avoided a lot of criticism when they were took under Activision’s wing but in reality they’ve shown their own true colours ever since the first Destiny game imo. They treat their players like dirt and it looks like it doesn’t stop there with this guy.
I hope he doesn’t leave the industry over whatever is going on with Bungie, his Halo score is legendary.
Every day, Bungie proves more and more that the only thing they knew how to do was Halo and, ironically enough, leaving Microsoft was just about the worst decision they made.
At this point Bungie is just like Blizzard. Just a name with only the worst aspects of the original left.
On the plus side, atleast Bungie doesn't make anything worth buying anymore. The only reason I ever bothered with Destiny to begin with was my Ex wife. And clearly that isn't an influence anymore lol.
Marty is an absolute legend.
He's been very vocal on YouTube as of late. Giving talks with small you tubers and just generally being very open, honest, and even critical of the industry. I hope these things aren't connected.
Never touched destiny even though I’m a huge Halo fan. Not into games that basically need to be jobs to keep up with. Bungie might make “better” games than 343 (yes I’ll say 343 hasn’t been great at all) but the studio sounds like culturally it’s a shell if it’s former self. Marty should go to 343.

Bungie is probably getting ready to sue him for libel right now. Say what you will about 343, but Bungie is a shadow of their former shadow, nothing more. There's ironically probably more Halo veterans working at 343 than there is at Bungie now. 343/MS should do everything in their power to help him out and even offer him work on future Halo stuff. At least 343 appears to be on a bit of a redemption arc, while Bungie is just circling the drain.
He kinda looks like Gabe Newell before he put on a lot of weight.
This guy is probably one of the best in the business, that classic Halo music is among the greatest.
Marty’s music WAS halo for me and one of the biggest changes in 4 and 5 was the whole soundscape. The music was still excellent but It was no longer EPIC in the same way and didn’t feel like Halo anymore.
That said I’m looking forward to Gareth Coker (Ori’s composer) take on Infinite.
Lastly I see a lot of people defending Marty, but while I love his music he doesn’t seem able to go a few years without some strife with someone or other. Some of that has to be on him.
