CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 has suffered a turbulent launch to say the least, and a recent rumour hasn't been making things any better - but now the studio has come out and dismissed it as "simply not true".
Like our friends at Push Square, we decided not to cover this rumour at the time because of its anonymity, but nevertheless it gained a lot of traction, with the person claiming to be a developer at the company, and suggesting that plans were in place for a "No Man's Sky style comeback" for the game in the coming months.
The rumour goes into a lot of detail about how the company was supposedly aiming to complete this "comeback", as well as highlighting that CDPR "hurt themselves to keep investors safe and sound," suggesting dev morale was at an all-time low, and claiming there would be "major departures from the studio".
But as you can see, it's been completely debunked by CD Projekt Red, so we're going to file this away in the 'not true' pile. Let's hope Cyberpunk 2077 in general has a bit of a smoother ride in 2021!

Even if this particular rumour isn't 100% true it's highly likely that a lot of the dev team isn't happy and would likely be leaving once any bonuses are paid out if they are entitled to any. I haven't played the game and wasn't planning on it for a while anyways so I'm not effected by them but i really don't like how the blatantly lied and shipped a clearly half baked product for the consoles. I'm not ok with this being accepted as the norm, not why i got back into gaming. Just launch when it's ready.
I know they didn't intend it, but the way they've worded that tweet makes it sound like every other rumor IS true.
The way CDPR has handled the post-launch is almost as bad as the launch itself. Telling customers the game will be fixed by February and the DLC will release early this year is extremely unrealistic, even if the developers crunched their way there, which is terribly unhealthy as someone who has crunched himself. I intend to buy this game later as it does look fun, but I'm not kidding myself into thinking it will be a polished experience until the summer at the earliest. And considering how hard CDPR is BS'ing their post-launch promises, that makes me think the real answer is this fall. I might just buy this summer anyways, but time will tell how much of a mess it is. I have a PC anyways and that probably will be good by summer, lol at base consoles though.
@Trainer Very hard disagree with you that "no one cares about no man's sky". It's generally seen among gamers as a great game (and even won an award at the game awards recently).
It's so much more popular now than it was on its (giant) launch.
Honestly this is one of those situations where there is way too much focus on the problems people had during the initial launch period and due to the nature of modern gaming where you download the latest patch as soon as you get a game the problems people talk about quickly becomes ancient history. It's just odd how a lot of gaming sites feel like tabloids these days just pushing gossip and rumors about stuff and there is tons of unnecessary negativity and aggression as a result. It's like what happened to just enjoying gaming and having fun with games, so many people feel a need to be pushing controversy and outrage all the time it's like they can't just relax and enjoy gaming. Personally I find the game to be really fun and and it's quite sad how that seems to bother some people. It's like so many people just need something to hate.
How DARE someone start this slanderous rumor! Stating that they are going to be adding a large amount of new content to the game on top of fixing all of its issues!
CD Projekt Red will never allow someone to tarnish their image in this fashion.
