When the latest patch for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla dropped and the notes stated it would remedy the screen tearing issues, many rejoiced - unfortunately it appears not to be the case.
Many next-gen owners have reported screen tearing issues on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Update 1.0.4. released yesterday and one major inclusion was “improved experience on Xbox Series S | X consoles including screen tearing.”
Many had hoped this patch would rectify the issues as previous reports from some users said it was so noticeable, it was hindering their enjoyment. However, since the update has dropped, multiple users have stated that very little has changed, with Eurogamer’s news editor, Tom Phillips, and The Verge’s senior editor, Tom Warren, both seemingly affected.
It’s worth mentioning that some users have reportedly had the issue eradicated and both reports have experienced minor improvements, however, it seems the issue is still fairly widespread.
Throughout this entire issue, it’s been unclear what actually causes it, although, it appears having a TV with a variable refresh rate seems to completely eliminate the problem (as discovered by Digital Foundry). Unfortunately, such TVs are expensive and many don’t have access to such features.
Have you been affected by screen tearing on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla? Has the patch fixed the issues? Let us know in the comments below.

I played it for about an hour last night (post-update) and there was definitely still screen tearing, though perhaps not as much as before the update.
Ubisoft........ugh. 🙄
Will they ever release a non-buggy game?
This is what happens when you develop your games around the necessity of them releasing by a given target date rather than setting a target date depending on where your development is.
QUICK GET IT OUT THE DOOR!!!
Wait, it's broken?

Wait, that's broken-er?
QUICK GET A PATCH FOR THE PATCH OUT THE DOOR!!!
@NEStalgia Which sounds like exactly what happened with Halo Infinite. Release when its ready (although think of the uproar that has caused). I reckon all my favourite games from last gen released late and right now all I remember is they are my favourite games from last gen and released late. Problem releasing broken is everyone remembers them broken or incomplete and not that they were at least on time.
Mass effect 4, No Mans Sky, any Bethesda Game, any Ubisoft game. Is it worth the notoriety? I actually don't know the answer to this as games are still pushed out too early and must be for a reason.
@Kefka2589 Have fun with that. I'm waiting for the XSX patch. And for when the game actually, you know, works....
I have such little faith in that game. Overambitious, overhyped.....nothing can save it now. Nothing.
@StonyKL Ubisoft pushes early and broken. Bethesda....they're always a decade late and still somehow broken. Skyrim is STILL broken! Time has nothing to offer Bethesda.
Interestingly I saw ACV (and dirt 5) don’t run as well as the ps5 versions. Is that because of optimisation or something else?
@Kefka2589 DQ11. You know, I have the (absolutely beautiful) PS4 pro version with the (absolutely dreadful) soundtrack, and I have the Switch version with the improved everything and ugly visuals. I haven't played either yet. I'm half tempted to just play the Switch version on XBox on Game Pass. But honestly the PS4 Pro visuals are soooooo good - I dont' understand why they're doing this port without just porting the good gfx. It's maddening.....it's so Squeenix.
@eggsbox Yeah, from all we're hearing, while the XSX hardware is better, the devkit is newer and more difficult to use. The PS5 dev kit is basically the PS4 dev kit and a lot of the optimizations are automated. Just plug it in and away you go. XSX has a lot of new functionality that needs to be explicitly tuned, and devs A) don't want to spend the time because XB is a smaller market, and B) The dev kit arrived later because they had to wait for AMD to finalize features they were including, so studios had access to the PS5 kits for longer and more or less copy pasted the X1 version over to XSX with some tweaks here and there.
ACV, Watch Dogs, and Dirt5, however are special. They run like trash on both platforms but run slightly less trashy on PS5 on account of the higher clocks and the game clearly just brute forcing it. 4k/60 no ray tracing or 1440/60....no raytracing. And it can't even hold stable framerates. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of either hardware. And the patch that was supposed to improve it worsened PS5 and did almost nothing on XSX, apparently.
Yet that's not the worst problem with both those games, as saving your game doesn't necessarily actually work in either of them.....on any platform including PC.
So yeah....these games are total mess. Performance issues are largely down to the tookit and the devs (and the time to learn and implement them), and the Ubisoft games....well there's not much excuse for those in general. If saving doesn't even work, did they even playtest them?
I've been playing on my series S and haven't had any issues. Granted, I'm only 18 hours in the game, and I'm really taking my time in the game, so I haven't seen any of the huge cities yet.
@Kefka2589 lol, I'll have to give it a gamepass try. I can't can't stand the visual compromises on switch and can't stand the audio on ps4 og. Maybe the switch port to the 4k twins is the ticket after all. Cold steel 3 looks atrocious on switch docked. Getting a ps5 to pay Ys and come steel isn't unreasonable right?
@NEStalgia @Kefka2589 thanks guys, interesting info appreciate it...
