It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, to mark the current Fallout 76 Free Play Week and Fallout series sale on the Microsoft Store, we're looking back at the history of the franchise on Xbox.
There have been six Fallout games released on the platform to date, starting all the way back before Bethesda even acquired the full rights (!), but which is your favourite? Remember you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (2004)
Welcome to the wasteland where humanity struggles to pick up the pieces after a devastating nuclear war. As a courageous member of the Brotherhood, your mission is to bring peace to this post-apocalyptic world filled with relentless chaos and radioactive nightmares.
Fallout 3 (2008)
Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures.
Fallout: New Vegas (2010)
Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland.
Fallout 4 (2015)
As you step out of Vault 111, you are the only remaining survivor. But you’re not all that is roaming the area. Mutated creatures and vicious animals stand in your way of avenging your wife and kidnapped son. Only you can rebuild and determine the fate of the Wasteland. Welcome home.
Fallout Shelter (2017)
Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault from Vault-Tec. Build the perfect Vault, keep your Dwellers happy, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland.
Fallout 76 (2018)
In Fallout 76: Wastelanders, people are now coming back to West Virginia. Two vying factions are struggling to gain the upper hand as the secrets of West Virginia are revealed. The Settlers have come to find a new home, and the Raiders have come to exploit them.
Let us know which of these Fallout games is your favourite below.

I know the cool thing is to say New Vegas and it probably has the best story but I played Fallout 4 to death and it plays much better than the rest of them. Also Far Harbour and Nuka World were great expansions too and the Silver Shroud side quests was amazing
Fallout 3
NV just has too many bugs to not be an issue, plus I like continuing after the main story. Besides spending hours building settlements at the fort and on the island, nothing about FO4 was memorable.
Far Harbour and Nuka World were great, but so was most of the DLCs of 3 and NV.
Regrettably, I still have never played 1, 2 or BoS. Shelter is fun but not really worth mentioning. And I've only just decided to jump in to 76, because I saw the BS coming when it was announced.
@Medic_Alert Well when you do play NV, keep in mind it only had 18 months dev time.
@Medic_Alert I have, I think it looks fantastic. It's the main reason I want him hired to Obsidian and have them work on "Fallout: New Orleans" as their sequel to New Vegas. They can reuse FO4 stuff, because the gameplay and RPG of that game is mostly solid anyway, but I think that aesthetic coupled with Obsidian's writing would make for a great official release.
@Medic_Alert As long as it's a big bright southern beach location, something different, I'd be happy.
Yeah, I'm a brit so I always wanted one set here. I did always picture it as a completely hellish landscape though. Completely overrun with ghouls and mutants with tiny enclaves of humans. If I ended up in charge of that project it would probably be the bleakest game of the series.
Though a game located in Japan probably does have more lore potential. Actually be able to see how the Japanese viewed the war and the Americans before the bombs dropped.
Fallout 4 is my favourite. I’ve played 3, NV, 4 and 76. I think 4 has the best gameplay of them all and I love the settlement building, I’ve spent many hours with that feature alone.
Fallout 3, because it introduced everything. 3d world, fully explorable, hidden quests/items/eggs everywhere. And that ink spots commercial, eerily awesome.
Then Vegas, then fo4.
I truly enjoyed and still enjoy Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel on my PS2, however as per time spent in the Fallout universe, I have to say FO76. I've put a massive amount of time into it for the 9 months I've been playing it. I have not spent much time in FO3, New Vegas, nor FO4 and therefore cannot add any comment on them.
My 600 hours of Fallout 4 says I must choose it. When I was playing NV I got game breaking bug, and I didn't want to start over, so I never finished it.
New Vegas, will be interesting to see if Obsidian get another crack now that Bethesda is in the Xbox Game Studios line ip
I had a lot of fun with 3, but never tried New Vegas. Think it’s worth it to buy the GOTY edition of 4 to play on the series S? It’s 18$ on sale right now...
I've been playing a lot of Fallout: Shelter recently. It's great for a free game.
Why, I don't really know, but I enjoyed Fallout 3 more than 4, despite the latter having mod support. Perhaps it was better paced without all the junk collecting to build a base.
Fallout: Vegas was released at the wrong time for me. I own it via Games With Gold, but didn't play it initially. Whatever its merits, I can't play it now without preferring to play Fallout 4 with all the advancements since then. Plus, I'm more of an action gamer than a story gamer, and from descriptions Vegas sounds like more of a story lover's game.
For me it has always been Fallout 3. I know New Vegas is a real fan favorite but there is just something about Fallout 3 that made it my favorite game in the series.
Sadly i never played a Fallout game before..
Fallout 2 is the best I know it's not on Xbox... Out of the ones that are I liked Fallout 4 the most in terms of gameplay but the fact you get a power armour so quickly in the game kinda ruined it for me. New Vegas is way more like Fallout of old, warts, bugs and all.
Fallout 4 is my favourite. But I started Fallout 76 yesterday and Im loving it so far. I could see Fallout 76 be the next No Man Sky story in a few year if they keep the support up.
@Kopite I hope so too. Obsidian would make a great Fallout game given time, and considering they have Avowed and Grounded on their road map, yet Bethesda have Starfield AND Elder Scrolls 6 on theirs, they might get chance to make a Fallout game before Bethesda do.
@TuckNorris85 New Vegas 2 would be great
First time I played Fallout 3 was astonishing... New Vegas is great but, it felt like a more of the same with good story.
I chose New Vegas, but I actually do like 3 and 4 a lot.
Easily New Vegas, but I would take The Outer Worlds over all of these games; it's a masterpiece.
I never found the appeal for the FallOut series...
