The schedule for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2020 digital event has now been announced, revealing that Microsoft Japan will be hosting a 50-minute Xbox Showcase to kick off the show (thanks VGC).
Few details have been revealed about what to expect for now, but it appears to be taking place from 9PM local time on September 24th, and will immediately follow the opening of the event.
As you can see from the timeline above, Xbox will be in good company - the likes of Square Enix, Capcom, SEGA, Konami and Bandai Namco are all set to feature over the four days.
This marks the latest in a set of major strides Microsoft has made to improve Xbox's position in Japan, including launching Xbox Game Pass in the region earlier this year, and confirming that the Xbox Series X will be available in the country this November instead of being delayed like the original Xbox One.
Looking forward to this? Let us know what you're hoping to see in the comments below.

Wow never would've imagined MS opening up at TGS! Pretty big deal I'm sure they'd going to kill it!
Can't see the Japanese choosing an American brand as they are very loyal to their own brands. Xbox needs to step up their JRPG game to win them over or atleast get better sales than the xbxo one had as that's where it failed as the Xbox one had no jrpgs compared to the ps4 (and later in the gen the switch)
The only reason Microsoft are doing this is because they’re launching a new console. They know they haven’t got a chance in getting a market over in Japan. That’s primarily Nintendo territory with Sony in second place and Microsoft almost none existent.
Man if Microsoft manages to get more JRPGs or Japanese games in general on Xbox then I might not even need to get a PS5 for a long time. For example, if they get Persona, Trails of Cold Steel or Danganronpa on there then that would be amazing since these are my favourite franchises of all time.
They've already gotten Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest XI etc. on Game Pass, so it's apparent that they want to invest more heavily in Japanese games next generation. And by having more Japanese games on Game Pass, they can attract lots of Japanese customers to their service as well. Because I don't think their aim is to make Japanese customers buy Series X, they want the Japanese people to subscribe to Game Pass and play games on other devices that they already own. Which is the best strategy for them since a service like Game Pass isn't common in Japan, so they can easily tap into that market.
@LtSarge Yes, Microsoft is going to find success in Japan via xCloud, Game Pass and all the Japanese games they are getting aboard. If there are still hardcore gamers in Japan, I doubt it since even PS4 seems to be dead there, they might even sell some Series X consoles. Japan is a small country with good internet infrastructure and mobile madness so xCloud will be a winner.
@FragRed Well no $#|T 😂 of course they are planning a wider global launch for next-generation of Xbox platform (consoles, Xcloud, Gamepass). This has been their primary goal for some time now.
I do wish Microsoft had kept pumping money into Mistwalker. What a fantastic first party studio that could have been!
Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. What a one-two punch that was back in 07/08.
There was also the other exclusives like Infinite Undiscovery, as well as the timed exclusives like Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia. I bet Microsoft wish they ate the cost and carried on the momentum at the time.
Well I hope they don’t plant on announcing the price at this event as that means it’ll only be a month more or less before they actually launch it!
@FragRed
This guy likes to state the obvious. 😂
@K1LLEGAL
The Don Mattrick era undid a lot of the good that started in the early to mid 360 days.
I am not of fan of many Japanese games myself, but there are huge fans of those types of games. Clearly, Phil Spencer is taking it more seriously than his idiotic & arrogant predecessor. 👍🏻
Hopefully this where they announce xCloud for Japan
And also Phil said there were some big Gamepass announcements coming, this is good show to do it at.
Nice! I never thought I would see the day until I heard their plans for Xbox Series X and the future of their gaming division! Hopefully Xcloud will be a hit over there!
I feel like this has been staged to announce an Xcloud release in Japan. Would make perfect sense.
@mousieone @Dpullam apologies! I completely missed people mentioned Xcloud before me!
Makes sense though.
@Jaxx420 I’m really really mad 😡 lol nahh it’s all good. Appreciate keeping the conversations going right
At least reveal a new big budget Killerinstinct.
Only that game alone is a system seller.
I hope to see many more Japanese games for Series X next gen. I know Phil has been making more of an effort recently to provide Xbox gamers some options for games previously not available to Xbox.
I never dreamed I would be playing Yakuza, Kingdom hearts(especially 1.5 and 2.5) Dragon Quest 11, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Scarlet Nexus (a game that probably easily could have skipped Xbox entirely)..And I'm still holding out hope that Xbox gets Final fantasy 7 Remake from SE eventually. I was kind of hoping to hear news of more new Japanese games heading to Xbox at the TGS. It's all good though. I believe in Phil, he listens to Xbox fans and I'm sure he will keep these types of games coming.
Phil, please keep trying for Persona 5!
