343 Industries Head of Design Jerry Hook has taken to Twitter to clear up some confusion about Halo Infinite, revealing that the game's campaign will support two-player split screen and four-player online co-op.
This follows recent rumours and reports that the game might have supported four players locally:
Of course, the series' most recent mainline entry (Halo 5) famously didn't include split screen as part of its campaign, so this is welcome news indeed. Hopefully, we'll get to see it in action relatively soon!
Pleased to see local co-op support return to Halo Infinite? Let us know in the comments below.

Good stuff! Will most definitely use this.
Back in the days when gaming was a social activity and local multiplayer feature was the fad.
@Z3u5000 in some ways I’m kinda sad this changed. Nothing beat slamming down Mountain Dew and bags of chips as you and your friends pulverized each other in epic 32 person battles in a multiplayer LAN party.
I don’t know if it was ever patched but didn’t the last entry or two in the series entirely forgo split screen? I remember reading about it and finding it annoying. Some of the funniest memories I have of Halo 1 was split screen local MP with my sibling, trolling them by grabbing the Warthog and tossing us off a cliff 😅
Online multiplayer might be the trend, but local coop is, IMO, it’s own thing and never to be replaced with online modes.
@Tharsman Halo 5 completely dropped split screen, and Halo 4 required a later patch to add in Theater to campaign, but did have 2 player campaign and 4 player MP split screen.
I personally think the demo would have gone down better had it shown the co-op in campaign, maybe even a bit of split screen as well. I just think of the original Destiny demo showing your fireteam and even other players popping in to the experience and that social aspect really helps to sell these games beyond your bog standard solo FPS.
This is great. I know people were cheesed off that they took split screen out of the Halo series.
@KelticDevil I was one haha.
This is a big deal! Now let's see some Let's Plays where one person plays with a controller in each hand.
@Jaxx420
I hear ya. I used to play split screen deathmatch on the OG Xbox with Halo. It was a blast. Having the split screen brought out a whole different strategy. 👍🏻 😁
Q) Pleased to see local co-op support return to Halo Infinite?
A) Yes; I'm hardly a big Halo player (I rather suck at FPS games) but I've had my fun with the series via co-op campaigns through Halo 1 and Halo Reach with my brother... he still hasn't forgiven me for driving us off a cliff though. If it didn't have local co-op, then I wouldn't have even considered picking it up on launch day. With local co-op confirmed, it's a potential purchase now.
Helll yeahh! Why wasnt this mentioned at the reveal. Thats a game seller! 4player coop that does it for me.
Now gears of war couch coop (done deal for me)
Next i want is killer instinct if that is announced i will pre order an xbox lol.
