Today marks the official arrival of Xbox Game Pass Standard - a brand-new tier for the service that's available for £10.99 / $14.99 per-month, sitting right in the middle between the Xbox Game Pass Core and Ultimate offerings.
The idea behind XGP Standard is to provide online multiplayer access along with hundreds of playable Xbox Game Pass titles for a cheaper price than the Ultimate tier. To do that, certain games are being left out, such as all the EA Play titles along with a bunch of recent "day one" releases that won't arrive until some point in the future.
As things stand, there are 369 games included with Xbox Game Pass Standard at launch compared to the 506 that are available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Many of the missing titles are the EA Play games, but other notable absentees include Age of Mythology: Retold, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Starfield, Diablo 4 and Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2.

All in all, we reckon this is still an excellent list for anyone who's not so bothered about checking out the latest day one releases on Xbox Game Pass, and it's certainly much better than what Xbox Game Pass Core is offering right now.

The omissions aren’t all that surprising, but the list of what’s included doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.

This looks good for most people that are new or plan on joining the Xbox ecosystem, especially if this works by staking up 3 month deals like with Ultimate.
That’s a happy medium I would say.
As someone currently paying for two subs, this could tempt me over if the discounts are good.
I prepaid for Ultimate for three years for the ludicrous price of £2.40 per month each, which I know I won’t be able to get when it’s time to renew in November.
Confusing article. It reads as if the EA games are included, but I think the opposite is implied.

Sounds like a decent amount of games considering it's not ultimate don't think it's that confusing with the tiers honestly most people should have enough IQ to tell the difference between 3 different tiers of gamepass it's not rocket science it's really not to difficult to see the differences if you try🤦
@PressR2 3 is a very big number alright😭
369 is a good amount, but the fact they have yanked out almost all their latest AAA games like Starfield, Diablo 4, Hellblade 2, COD MW3 isn't a good sign for how long they will take to add these games in future, especially as most of these have all been out around a year already.
EDIT: For reference the community run spreadsheet says there are currently 549 games on Game Pass Ultimate, so it seems they have dropped around 180 titles.
Very deceptive about 469 went at first glance around 25 of them alone are different gears of war, halo and yakuza Games. Remove all the sequels and it’s mostly games nobody cares about
FYI: This is obviously a list that's going to change regularly - for example, Riders Republic is now included with Xbox Game Pass Standard as of this morning.
The list you see in the article is exactly what was included with Xbox Game Pass Standard following Microsoft's announcement at 8pm BST on Tuesday, September 10th (2024).
@themightyant Yeah, I'm just going off the official Xbox website here - it was listing 506 games for XGP Ultimate until this morning (now 507 thanks to Riders Republic).

Well now I'm in a conundrum as I'm just playing on PC nowadays... but my son still plays on XBox, so think Ultimate may still be my best bet
The lack of Starfield, Hellblade, and recent-ish games is a red flag. I dunno. Without Day 1, I don’t get the excitement for Gamepass, maybe the average consumer will understand. To me, it feels like the industry just keeps shifting into more and more out of touch practices.
Great value great price games were always going to be removed hence the lower price compared to ultimate no red flags for me and people like sequels no conspiracy for me eyes

@FraserG Logically I suspect the discrepancy may be because the fan list includes all games you have access to including Xbox and PC and some are only available on PC. I didn't think of that before, so your number of 507 is likely more useful for comparison to Xbox Game Pass Standard.
Though when I log onto my Xbox it says 424 Game Pass Games plus 89 EA Play games which makes 513, so none of the numbers match but it is closer.
And thanks for the heads up on the Xbox website link, I didn't know they had that feature, which is why I usually use the fan spreadsheet which is seemingly always kept up to date.
@themightyant I believe it's a new feature that was added yesterday. Definitely useful, but as you say, different sources seem to list different numbers of games!
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Yeah, it's a pain. We're going to keep doing things as normal for now - it's impossible to know ahead of time which games will be joining XGP Standard, so we can't really make any adjustments to our monthly and yearly guides as it stands.
So, it appears to be pretty much every day one game from the last year isn't on Standard, and some first party games are longer than a year (Starfield). For third party day one games, will games that only come to Gamepass for 12 months just skip the Standard tier all together? I haven't seen this addressed anywhere.

Starfield, Diablo IV and Hellblade 2 out of the list. Microsoft really want to push Ultimate subscriptions.
