The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is finally getting its long-awaited next-gen update this week, after months and months of development time over at CD Projekt RED. We know a lot of folks have been eagerly awaiting this update, so here are all the pre-release details for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen ahead of its arrival on Xbox Series X and S.
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Xbox Release Date
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update release date is December 14th for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
This is more than seven years after the game first arrived on Xbox One. Of course, that original version has also been playable on Xbox Series X and S via backwards compatibility since the systems first launched, but this new patch is a full game overhaul, delivering a native next-gen version for players to enjoy.
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Xbox Release Time
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update release time is 4pm PT / 7pm ET / midnight GMT on December 13th.
This means you can actually get access to the game slightly earlier than its official release date! Another nice bonus is that in some regions (including the US), the patch actually launches earlier on Xbox than on PlayStation.
The team has also provided more regional timings down below.

The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Preload For Xbox
Unfortunately, there will be no preload for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update on Xbox Series X and S.
This was confirmed by developer CD Projekt Red last week:
For downloading this patch, it's best to stick with the above release times for an idea on when you'll be able to install the update on Xbox Series X|S consoles. There's not long to wait now!
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Xbox Download Size
The Witcher 3 Next-Gen update appears to have a download size of around 35-40GB. That was our experience during the "hands-on impressions" period, although further optimisations may alter the size prior to launch on Wednesday.
If you're downloading the entire version of the game from scratch, you're probably looking at over 50GB.

7pm ET on the 13th is 12AM GMT on the 14th.
I'm desperate to finish off other titles so I can jump straight in.
I've wanted to replay this excellent game for a very long time, but have been waiting for this current gen update. I'm delighted its nearly here!
Gutted it’s lacking achievement support.
Edit: Seems like it only makes a difference when going platform to platform. If you continue from XSX, it should be okay.
Gonna finish Chained Echoes (which is fantastic by the way) and then jump into this. Happy holidays.
I’m so glad I only played the opening a few years ago so I can play through the game properly for the first time while looking and running it’s absolute best on Series X.
Which graphic modes are people going to play through with? I’d love to play it in 30fps ray tracing mode but I’ve been so accustomed to 60fps that I just find it hard to play games in 30fps these days. I’m even struggling to get through A Plague Tale Requiem that’s forcing me to play through at 30fps.
So excited for this! Not sure if I should start fresh on PC or continue my playthrough on Series X. Put it on hold in anticipation of this patch.
I've got so little time in the game, I'm glad that this is coming now. Ready to give it a try when I have my long vacation from work.
Is there still the option to install the Xbox One x version after this update? Because I dont have any space left on my ssd.
@MaccaMUFC I´ll try the 30 fps mode first, cause Witcher plays fine @30 fps in my book. If the difference is neglectable I switch to 60 fps. Exciting
