The Witcher 3 may well be seven years old at this point, but most would argue it's still a pretty good-looking game today, even on Xbox One. However, the team at CDPR has just showcased a first glimpse at its Witcher 3 Next-Gen update and well, it looks absolutely fantastic compared to the original.
The first thing that stands out to us is just how much the lighting has improved with the new version - the improved lighting model makes the original game look dated by comparison! Some of the texture work has seen major improvements as well, and this side-by-side footage shows just how much effort has gone into the upgrade.
The team is also bringing in some new performance options for current-gen consoles, which are a little harder to show off on video admittedly. On Xbox Series X and Series S we'll be seeing a 60FPS performance mode along with a 30FPS quality mode, with the latter also featuring ray traced global illumination on Xbox Series X.
If all this has whetted your appetite for some The Witcher 3 goodness on Xbox Series X and S, the game is worth picking up right now if you don't own it. Both the base game and the GOTY edition are currently on sale on the Xbox Store, and the next-gen upgrade will be free for all owners! All the pricing details are present in the article below.
