We've got some cool Xbox releases on the way this week, including one that should prove particularly popular in the form of Amazon Games' New World: Aeternum. This is a game that was all the rage a few years ago, and to be honest we never thought we'd see it on Xbox - but now we're just a few hours away from release!
As we get closer and closer to the Xbox launch, we thought we'd put together a guide with all the information you need to know about New World: Aeternum - including dates, times, game info, impressions and plenty more! Let's go.
What Exactly Is New World: Aeternum?
Back in 2021, Amazon Games released an MMORPG on PC called New World. It got a lot of attention at the time, and although it's sitting on a "Mixed" rating on the Steam platform right now, it's racked up over 240,000 scores on there.
Then, earlier this year, Amazon announced that a new version called New World: Aeternum would be coming to PC as well as Xbox and PlayStation at the end of 2024. Aeternum not only includes all the base game and expansion content from New World, but it also makes a large number of improvements to essentially overhaul the experience.
"New World: Aeternum includes the New World base game, the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion and all update content like Brimstone Sands, plus a fully revamped storytelling approach with enhanced dialogue, in-game cinematics and pre-rendered scenes, the first-ever large-scale PvP zone, a challenging 10-player raid, new end-game solo trials, and more.
As you might expect, New World: Aeternum is an online game, so you'll need a subscription to at least Xbox Game Pass Core in order to play it. The good news is that you can link up with other players on PC and PlayStation 5 while enjoying the game on Xbox as well, as there's full crossplay support implemented from day one.
Pre-orders and pre-loads are available right now on the Xbox Store - the game starts at a price of £49.99 / $59.99.
"Discover the island of Aeternum: Explore a massive, beautiful world and uncover the secret truth of the eternal island and its strange inhabitants. Endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge await among the island's wilderness and ruins. Play solo or use cross-platform play to team up with others, or compete head-to-head in a variety of PvP battles. Customize the look, skills, and abilities of your character, and experiment with different builds to suit your play style."
New World Aeternum: What Is The Release Date For Xbox?
New World: Aeternum officially launches for Xbox Series X and Series S on October 15th, 2024.
Although a Deluxe Edition is available for this game, it doesn't include any kind of early access whatsoever.
New World Aeternum: What Are The Xbox Release Times?
The release times for New World: Aeternum have been confirmed as 6am PT / 8am BST / 9am ET on October 15th.
This was revealed by Amazon Games on social media a few days ago:
What Are The Reviews Saying About New World: Aeternum?
The first official reviews are now live for New World: Aeternum, and they're pretty good on the whole! It's still early days, but the Metacritic is sitting on a healthy 80 average right now, with most of those reviews being for the PS5 version.
Here are a few examples:
Hey Poor Player - "New World: Aeternum is a promising action RPG/MMORPG hybrid that offers accessible and flexible combat and progression systems that are a blast to dig into and make those initial hours spent leveling and exploring the island of Aeternum a pure joy."
CGM - "New World: Aeternum is an amazing MMORPG, and Amazon Games has put in a lot of effort to make it fun and enjoyable, especially for console players."
COGconnected - "With a good balance between solo, co-op PvE and PvP content, Aeternum has something to offer most players. Nothing’s incredibly original, but neither is anything totally broken or missing."
Is New World: Aeternum Included With Xbox Game Pass?
New World: Aeternum is not included with Xbox Game Pass at launch in October 2024.
Obviously that could change in the future, but we've seen no indications of how likely that could be. As mentioned up above though, you'll need at least Game Pass Core in order to access New World Aeternum due its online-only features.
Is There An Xbox One Version Of New World: Aeternum?
Unsurprisingly, New World: Aeternum is not getting an Xbox One version as far as we know.
Amazon's other recent release, Throne And Liberty, skipped Xbox One as well, so don't get your hopes up!
We've seen a lot of confusion over New World: Aeternum since it was announced for Xbox earlier in the year, so hopefully this guide will have helped a bit! You can also let us know if you'll be getting the game in the poll down below.

I really enjoyed the beta & can see myself losing hundreds of hours playing this mmo. Sadly I dont have those hours to give right now but this is at the top of my must buy list for the New Year when hopefully things settle down a bit
This is one of those games that I wish had a tiered approach when it comes to sales:
Tier 1: Solo only. No PvP. No Access to the raids. Purely a solo experience. With much stripped from the game, it could be sold at a smaller and most importantly, cheaper price point.
Tier 2: Solo and multiplayer, including the PvP.
Tier 3: All the above, and the raids.
Or indeed, have just two entry points: one for just a solo experience, and then a second which would feature absolutely everything.
I feel absolutely certain that they would sell more copies of the game with that approach. People such as myself, often feel taken advantage of when they only want the solo experience. Take Destiny, as an example. If all you are interested in is the solo component, then you are excluding yourself from the PvP and the Raid, yet you are still expected to pay exactly the same as someone that wants to play the full experience.
It's all well and good the developers telling us we can play solo, but that is only true to an extent, as if you only want to play solo, you are immediately locked out of the Raids. Now I get that that is a personal choice, but if the game were to have a cheaper, solo price point, I just feel that they would sell way more copies, and probably, make more money too. Sell the other elements as add ons too, just in case people want to upgrade.
Anyway, I am mildly interested, but would only want to play solo, but hate that that choice would limit my experience of the game whilst expecting me to pay full price...
@Fiendish-Beaver That makes absolutely no sense. That would be like if I said I want only want to play the first 5 levels of a game instead of all 10 can I get it cheaper.
Raids aren't locked it's just group content. They provide ways for you to experience you can find other players through message boards and even in game. How is it the devs and games fault that you exclude yourself from parts of the game?
MMOs aren't made to be solo hence the name MMO.
Keep in mind that the mixed reviews are a result of some review bombings. I guess PC owerners you previously bought the game already have to buy it again hence some of the angry reviews.
I myself may check it out later, but with WoWs 20th anniversary event coming up I will be busy MMO wise.
I get that it's individual choice, @Tasuki, but two things come immediately to mind: firstly, they say the game can be played solo. Well that's only partly true isn't it, because you cannot partake in the Raids solo, so only part of the content is available to you if you want to only solo, so what they say is not completely accurate.
Secondly, my point was that they would sell more games if they partitioned the game. So, as it stands, I'm not going to buy the game because I'll be paying for a portion of the game I have no interest in playing. However, were I able to just buy just the solo content, then they would have a sale, and probably many more besides as I'm sure I'm not alone in not wishing to pay for content that I simply will not play.
Look upon it as if the Raids and PvP components were DLC, then you can see that it actually makes perfect sense...
I tried the first new world with a buddy and fell off it very quickly due to bugs and just the general gameplay loop. I've recently started with throne and liberty so my mmo needs are filled.
This game looks worse than my bwhole on a friday night
@Fiendish-Beaver First the game can be played solo, raids and that are optional and again it's not like you are blocked from the group stuff there are ways for you to find groups and be part of raids. You are wanting an MMO to be a single player game so yeah that doesn't make sense. They charge for a complete game it's not there fault you don't want to certain parts of the game. That would be like if you buy a sports game, have no interest in the career mode and just play the single match mode and want to get the game cheaper.
Honestly raids in MMOs really don't take anything from story and you can enjoy the whole story with out raiding, I have in several MMOs. Raids are more for gear and bragging rights so there's that too.
I played the beta with zero expectations and was absolutely blown away. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Everything about it clicked with me. The world, the combat, the music. Loved it. Can't wait to get stuck again this evening
I understand everything that you say, @Tasuki, and I said right at the start that it was personal choice to not partake in the Raids. I have no interest in PvP or the Raids, and so it matters not to me how easy it would be to find a team to undertake them.
My point remains the same though, as it stands, I will not be buying the game because I resent paying full price for a game that I will only play a small percentage of. It's a lost sale. Were they to sell the 'campaign' (solo) element as the base game, and the Raids and PvP effectively as DLC at a higher price point, then I would buy the game. That is my point. Divide the game into two halves; solo and MMO, and sell more games. Keeps everybody happy because those, such as yourself can still buy the MMO, and I could by the solo part. So you could could pay, £50, and I could pay £30, as an example. That's £80 all told, which is better than the £50 they will be getting, as out of the two of us, only one copy will be sold, and it won't me buying. That is what I'm getting at. It takes nothing away from your experience of the game, and they could make more money...
It's been years since I stopped playing WoW and every now and then I feel like I wanna jump back into something "similar",but got relatively little time to game nowadays, so not sure.
So, yeah maybe will give this a try, not sure.
@Fiendish-Beaver So basically I get an incomplete game and if I want the full game I need to pay more just because you choose not to play a part of the game? Yeah that's going to make the company more money, if anything it will cause players like me not to buy the game.
For the record, I understand what your saying but you are asking for a game to be something that you want or your not buying it, that's understandable. You prefer single player RPGs that's great but you shouldn't look at an MMO and expect it to be a single-player RPG like Skyrim or Final Fantasy. I mean the best you can hope for them to do is making a single player RPG spin off, something like what Skyrim is to Elder Scrolls Online or Final Fantasy 14 is to the Final Fantasy series.
Then again if you feel like paying the full price for a game that has other game play modes, sections etc that you have no interest you can always just wait for the game to go on sale. I known alot of people that only play Call of Duty games or Halo games for the campaign and have no interest in multiplayer, or whatever other modes they have and they just simply get the game on sale. You can always do that with an MMO that way you're not paying the full price and you can partake on the parts you want.
I’ll stick with Throne & Liberty for now. Also from Amazon. So weird.
It's not complete if you buy the complete edition, @Tasuki. Call it Ultimate, Complete, MMO, or whatever, it would just be the full version of the game, which has more to it than the single player campaign element. It would just be like buying a game at launch with the Season Pass that then grants you access to all the other components. You would not be buying anything different than you already are. It would be me that was buying the smaller game that did not include all the add-ons. The full game would cost exactly what it does right now, so there would be no difference for someone like you; same game, same price. It would be me buying the lesser version of the game, at a lower price. It's that or not buy it at all.
I get your point about getting it in a sale, and that is something that I may do at some point, but the developers could be having my money now, and possibly more than were I to buy it in a sale, were they to offer options. That is all I was getting at...
Again, you are not asking for options you are asking for them to split a game up. Raids are not DLC or should be they are they full game. Do you expect Call of Duty to sell the Multiplayer and Zombie portions of the game as DLC? Why should I have to pay more for a complete game then someone who wants to play parts of a game.
I beginning to think you just dont understand how MMOs are which is fine but until you do then I am afraid you are going to think they way you do. I dont have anything more to say, but I they are called MMOs for a reason not single player games.
It has been nice chatting with you though.
But you wouldn't be paying any less than you already are, @Tasuki. You would be paying exactly what you currently are. I would be paying less, but also getting less.
As for CoD, I have long said that the campaign should be a separate entity. The majority of Call of Duty players do not play the campaign. Fact! So why are they paying for something that they do not want to play? Equally, there are those of us that would happily buy just the campaign.
If Raids and campaigns were sold as separate parts of the game, then players could pick and choose which bits they want to buy. Those bits that weren't profitable would eventually be dropped by the developers allowing them to concentrate on the parts of the game that the majority want to partake in.
You only pay more if you want more content, which is exactly what happens now with Season Passes, DLC and Expansions. It is no different.
Right now you are expected to pay £50 for the base version of this game, and you get everything. You are happy to pay that. However, for some reason you seem to be unhappy if I were to pay less, and receive less, than you would if you were to buy the full game for £50. You are still paying the same for exactly the same game, it's just that I will be paying less and receiving less. I don't see the problem with this.
We obviously see this very differently, and we clearly will not agree with each other, but at least it has been civil, which is not always the case when people have opposing views, so thank you for that...
