It's Gamescom time! The annual event kicks off later today with Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022, and continues throughout the week with a handful of showcases/livestreams, along with the actual event itself taking place in Cologne, Germany.
So, what you can look forward to this week? Here are three highlights we've picked out specifically:
Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 (August 23)
This year's big Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 event begins today (August 23rd) at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST, and takes place from the Gamescom event arena in Cologne, hosted by Geoff Keighley as always.
"You can look forward to the latest world premieres, new material on hotly anticipated games, exciting show elements and surprising guest appearances."
Future Games Show (August 24)
The third Future Games Show of the year returns at Gamescom on Wednesday, August 24th, again taking place at the same time of 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST.
The show will highlight "around 50 games" from the likes of Team17, 505 Games, Prime Matter and Ravenscourt, complete with "world premieres, stealth drops, developer interviews and exclusive announcements".
Xbox Livestream At Gamescom 2022 (August 25)
We're not getting a proper showcase from Xbox at Gamescom 2022, but we are getting a day-long livestream that will feature "developer interviews and gameplay from various Xbox Game Studios", along with some third-party titles.
The show begins on Thursday, August 25th at 5am PT / 8am ET / 1pm BST, and lasts for six hours.
And that's not all! There's a Destiny 2 Showcase today, for example, along with an Awesome Indies Showcase on Friday, so there's plenty to look out for. And of course, we'll likely be getting plenty of reactions and gameplay from the show floor throughout the week, with the entire event finally concluding on Sunday.
As always, you'll be getting all the major content from Gamescom 2022 here at Pure Xbox, and we'll be hosting both the Gamescom Opening Night Live and Xbox streams here on the website (with a chatroom if you want to discuss them with the community!), complete with full roundups of all the Xbox-related news following the events.
What are you looking forward to at Gamescom 2022 this week? Tell us in the comments below.

I can't say I'm looking forward to anything specifically from Gamescom 2022. Most, if not all of the games I am most interested in are not expected to release this year and the 'few' that are due to release, I don't think any in particular still need to 'show' something to generate hype/buzz before release.
Most of the 'big' releases have been delayed into 2023 and whilst it would be good to get some more info and hopefully more actual game-play footage, its still far enough away that its almost 'irrelevant' as an accurate slice of what we can expect - its less likely to be actual 'game'-play and more likely to be a curated 'demo/slice'. Hence when games do release quite some time later, there are differences (puddles, different lighting/shadow quality, object density/pop-in changes, LoD changes etc - games like Watchdogs, the Division etc all showed off game-play that was 'different' in the final release.
If you show too 'early', they may only have a 'Beta' version with placeholder art/textures, UI, etc and not 'optimised' yet so look 'terrible' creating a 'bad' impression - even telling someone its a 'beta', very early 'in game' footage doesn't help.
Therefore I'm not too bothered about seeing/hearing more about games expected 6-8months from now or longer as things can change quite a bit in that time. As for the rest releasing much sooner, there is 'nothing' particular I'm hoping to see.
What I would like is to see some brand new game or info about an upcoming game that surprises and grabs my interest. Whether its a brand new game I never expected to see or a game that's been shown, but until now hadn't caught my eye.
Redfall to a lesser degree did this recently as I was not overly interested in yet another 'co-op' L4D type game expanded to an open world and swapping zombies for vampires - but the most recent video surprised me and got me interested in this. There are a number of games releasing this year that I am 'indifferent' to at the moment, certainly not 'excited' or willing to buy day 1 (Gotham Knights for example) so I'd like to be surprised by at least 1 or 2 games...
I'll watch as much as I can and keep up with the news but I am not really expecting a lot as the Gaming market is 'slow' and there isn't a lot to be 'excited' about releasing this side of Christmas - at least not on my Radar...
@BAMozzy Quite the read, I fully agree.
Monkey Island News 24-7 please.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Goldeneye speculation pans out to be real or just idle nonsense.
@Feffster agreed, there's a certain wiff of finality around it this time too, like if it's not announced this time, it's just not happening regardless of things like devs playing it and earning achievements.
