Topic: Xbox One: Physical or Digital?

The Xbox One -- before reversing their policies -- was going to be the closest thing to an all digital console. Even if you bought a game at retail, after it was installed, you never needed to put the disc in the tray ever again. A digital copy was granted to you and the game could've been played on any X1 console so long as you were signed in.

Lately I've been going all digital on my handheld machines. I love that Sony has Vita games up the same day as retail and I have yet to buy a physical Vita cart. I only wish Sony had larger memory cards, but thats a whole other topic. And even my 3DS is packed with digital titles; its awesome switching between Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion 2.

But the Xbox One may be my first console where I will be going all digital. I like the idea of my games being stored in the cloud and if they bring back the Family shared plan, my digital library will be there already. If Kinect can allow me to switch games easily and seamlessly ("Play Halo, Play Forza") like I can do on my iPhone then more power to digital too.

So what are your thoughts? Are you gonna take the online plunge or stick with what you've been doing for years?

I'll always prefer a physical copy of the game. Nothing against digital, I love a lot of indie games and the way to get most of them is through PSN or the e-shop but if given the choice I'd always rather have a physical copy of the game. Only times I buy a full game digitally is if it's included as some sort of deal like getting a digital copy of Gears 1 with the purchase of Gears Judgment.

I prefer going physical for alot of reasons that people do.

1.  I have the game as long as I want.  I dont have to worry about the company going out of business and the game being pulled off of digital market places.  Or if my console breaks having it repaired and worrying about having to rebuy my digital purchases.

2. If I dont like the game or I am done with it I can trade it in towards purchases of another game.  I can't do that with digital.  While that might not seem like a big deal someone like me with a fixed income its nice to be able to put games towards the purchase of another game so I dont have to shell out as much money.  Of course as I said if I dont like the game I can get some money or credit back on it where as a digital one I am stuck with it.

3.  I like having a shelf full of games.

Now while I am not against digital I like having the option of digital or physical.  If I can I will buy physical over digital but with that said I have bought a bunch of VC games on my Wii, 3DS and Wii U.  I have also bought a few games on XBLA as well but those are games that I know I would enjoy like The Simpsons Arcade, Both TMNT Arcade games and a few indie games but those I couldn't get physical copies of.  I also did buy a games like L4D2 and Borderlands 2 digital but that was because of the awesome sale they had on them.

I probably wont totally abandon physical copies and if the gaming world did go all digital I would probably stop buying current gen consoles.  But thats just my opinion.

I usually buy physical copies for those reasons, but for games w/ lots of replay value, I buy digital to avoid having to switch game cards on my 3DS & carry them w/ me. I probably won't sell those games either. I always buy discs for my 360 if possible since I don't have to carry the games w/ me.

I'll probably mix it up, like I do at the moment. It all depends on the prices, to me. If I can buy Everybody's Golf on the Vita for £5 at retail, or for £7.99 on the PSN, I'm going to buy the physical copy.

Same goes for Games on Demand on Xbox, which is why I own about 4 Games on Demand titles, and have shelves full of discs!

i prefer physical to digital on console especially as a lot of the time the digital versions are more expensive than the physical ones (just look at EA games released digitally) and they stay at the higher price longer when to be honest digital should always be cheaper because publishers don't have to pay for manufacture and distribution of discs

not to mention that if your console breaks the games are useless at least physical ones you could sell on and get some money back

the only games i brought digital this gen (on 360 and PS3) are Tales of Vesperia (it was out of print) Zone of the Enders (it was on sale on PSN) and that's it (i do have some games of PS+ though but they don't count because they were free and i won a code for the 360 version of Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing from Sega)

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
