I'm getting tempted by this but have not pre-ordered. The review embargo unsettles me a little, so I am trying to hold out for some honest reviews. I'm mainly interested in the campaign, although I might try my luck at MP and see how long I can survive before being shot by uber-players.

Anyone else considering this game?

@Captain_Chao5 I'm thinking about it, it certainly won't be a pre order or day one purchase. I would only be looking to play the campaign as I suck at online multiplayer, the only thing I'm half decent at is Halo and I haven't played online for ages on that.

I'm definitely interested and could well buy it for this weekend but it all depends on what I hear about the single player as I too suck at online MP.

I used to play Doom multiplayer, and I didn't suck but that was on a LAN with a few mates back in the days when getting multiplayer working at all was a major achievement in itself (Windows for Workgroups but the game itself and network drivers all ran on MSDOS). But against the masses, now, I suck lol.

Anyway, any idea when the review embargo lifts?

@stylon: Oh my god I just had flashbacks! A room full of PC's with cables EVERYWHERE connected to a switch borrowed from work!

I think the embargo is until release day, but there is a mini-review on youtube. Link in the 'midnight release' thread.

There's no embargo. Well...not in the traditional sense.

They aren't sending out codes until release day, since the multiplayer servers aren't going to be live until then.

I went to my local indie game store yesterday to grab Uncharted 4 and the guy there says he's completed the DOOM single player campaign (as he got his copies in at the start of the week) but says multiplayer is entirely disabled at this point.

I'll be starting to play it for review tomorrow, when the review codes are released.

Our network used coax cables with those old BNC twist on connectors... no switch, they were all daisy chained together with the ones at the end having terminators on them. Getting it all working was a nightmare... but it was so bloody cool when it worked. We had literally never experienced anything like it before, actually playing your mates on another computer in the same room... it was witchcraft! We used to skive by playing Microsoft Hearts multiplayer... Internet didn't exist back then. Come to think of it I don't think RJ45 Ethernet had been invented either, or at least wasn't ubiquitous... can really remember now it was so long ago lol

But back to Doom - I'm so tempted... last FPS I played was Halo 5 I think so I'm ready for a new one...

@Stylon Yep. That's the one. I've not seen anything yet to make me not want this. The achievements was another tick for me too. Damn my Amazon account having credit.
@SuperKMx Thanks for clarifying. I'll look forward to your review (if I can last that long) haha

LOL. I remember coax connections with terminators at work. Pain in the bum! I was quite late buying a PC and even later before I played MP games. I can remember reducing the entire room to laughter when playing Unreal Tournament (with mods) and my character blurting out (in Homer Simpson voice) "I am evil homer...". Those were the days. LOL

@stylon: There was a Twinax version of that as well (2 coax, one cable). First came out on an IBM system called System 34 and died not long after.

Out of curiosity, I googled "doom review" today. It seems the lack of reviews before release has caused a flood of "I've reviewed it first" err...reviews? Many show as much as TWO whole hours gameplay before praising or slating the game. PFFT! Chocolate teapot springs to mind. I'll sit tight and wait for a trusted review on the campaign.

As mentioned in another thread I've taken the plunge and ordered this now after I was tipped over the edge by a youtube link provided by... him!

I've got little interest in the multi-player but the single player looks like a lot of old school mindless shooting goodness so I'm willing to take a punt. It's a physical purchase so I can always sell/trade it if it turns out to be a lemon

This Doom review embargo has me worried about this game. It's like do they have confidence in the final product?

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I'm currently playing Faith The Unholy Trinity, Dead Space( remake), Crow Country and Steel Rising.

@stylon: That review does sound positive, especially when combined with the gameplay video. So its basically a gorefest with big guns (and a chainsaw). Awesome!

I'm so weak! Just ordered it. I'm blaming @Stylon. Lol

Anyone else finding the loading screens (after dying) take a while to load? Like 20-30 seconds? I did have the difficulty set higher, but the dying/loading screen delay has caused me to drop it to normal. Maybe I'll try again once it's patched.

(That's my excuse am I'm sticking to it)
