Surprised there isn't a thread for this one yet. Considering the recent game informer edition that showed some gameplay and screen shots, I figured it's a good time to start chatting about the game. I played through the original a few years back, and it's my favorite RE experience so far. But honestly, I'm not sure there's enough that can be done to justify buying this game so close to launch at that price point. Whats everyone's thoughts on this remake. You grabbing it asap, or waiting for a sale?
*Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City.
Agent Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors of the incident, has been sent to rescue the president's kidnapped daughter.
He tracks her to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals.
And the curtain rises on this story of daring rescue and grueling horror where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect.
Featuring modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics,
Resident Evil 4 marks the rebirth of an industry juggernaut.
Relive the nightmare that revolutionized survival horror.*
I love the 2 and 3 remakes. With only a few replays of the originals and the jump from PS1 to PS4 and the remakes felt fresh and new. However with RE4 I have many, maybe too many, replays of the original, PS2, that I question how new this remake will feel to me. Also how well it will perform on PS4 Pro as I have yet to upgrade to current gen.
Overall I will play the RE4 remake someday, but I may not buy it at a high price and wait for a sale price.
I know it may sound strange, but RE4 is one of those "classics" that I haven't beat, lol. I played it because a friend lent me his copy, during the PS2 days. I thought it was a nice game, but I guess it didn't left a lasting impression on me, so I never played it again. Even with the remasters, RE4 and RE6 are the only "main" games in the series I haven't beat (played and finished 1,2,3,5,7,Village).
Nevertheless, I may be bite the bullet with the remake (undecided if I'll get it on day one, maybe I'll wait for a sale) because I played the remakes of 2 & 3 and found both great! The RE engine looks better and better to me, so maybe it's time I finally see the end of RE4...
@HarmanSmith I had a similar feeling back when I played it during its gamecube launch. I barely got through the village before I shelved it. I used to love 0 and 1 so much more than 4, and now it's the complete opposite with 4 being my favorite. For someone like you who never finished it, I'd be all in. For a guy like me who already has, it struggling internally if I should right away or just wait. As good as it looks, I just don't know yet.
I've beaten Resident Evil 4 on GameCube twice, on Wii at least two more times and on Xbox once so around five times overall... This would be my fourth purchase but this could be considered a new game. Capcom is one of my favourite developers, I'll get it but probably not at launch. I'd love them to remake 1 and 0 but Code Veronica is the one that needs a remake the most and the most fascinating Resident Evil in terms of story. 1 Remake is my favourite Resident Evil game and one of my favourite games ever and I'm more protective of this one so if they remake it, I'd appreciate if they only update the graphics and controls, maybe the camera?
I have beaten RE4 in the Cube and in PS2 and I have the PS4 port but to be honest I don't like the OG game that much. It was way different than the other games. I get it that Code Veronica is not good and the format should be shifted but a 3rd person shooter with no horror elements is not what I had in mind.
However, the remake seems more horror focused. I enjoyed all the recent RE games and I have beaten them multiple times in multiple consoles.
I will preorder RE4 close to the release date. I will go with the PS4 version since it is cross buy with the PS5 version and, if the game is good, I may get it again in my series s or my steam deck.
@NintendoByNature Well, remember how many enemies gathered in the village in Resident Evil 4 before "la campana está sonando, es hora de rezar (the bell is ringing, it's time to pray)" 🤣 but I haven't played the remake demo to avoid "spoilers". It's a must-buy (again), anyway. I'm just hoping that the Spaniards don't speak Mexican this time.
Thinking about picking this up. I haven't played Resident Evil 4 in years in fact last time I played it was on the Wii. In fact, I have never played the game with a "normal" controller.

I remember a section in the original game where there are some catwalks and ladders that is quite challenging but probably the demo is designed to be the greatest challenge. Do you remember the Resident Evil VII demo? 😮
Sadly it's gonna be a sale for me. I have paid for this game so many times on different systems I'm not prepared to pay 60 squid for it. Might check it out in a few months.
