Yesterday I decided it was time to finally delve into final fantasy XIV so I created a trial account on PC... I don't think I will ever pay monthly for it as It just sounds too much for a single game but I should have at least 100h in front of me on trial lol. Basically one more reason I may not finish this month's game
@Balta666 ffxiv is amazing in its current form. I still play it a bit as I decided to play more single player games, so it has become more of a side thing. The monthly payment also had me doubting if I shouldn't cancel my monthly subscription but since I still play it every month I keep it turned on. What a lot of people do after or just before a new expansion hits is take 1 or 2 months of game time and then play through the entire story and then unsub again. The game director actually said multiple times in the past the game is designed for people to sub and unsub all the time and if you unsub you don't run to far behind. Seeing they made the content more accessible for people who want to play it as basically a single player game also helps a lot.
Note the first part of the story isn't the best part. The further you come the better it gets, so don't let the mediocre start keep you back from playing further
@Lavalera I indeed started it because many say it is the best story from a FF game and so far it has been quite underwhelming, in big part because there is almost no voice acting, the protagonist is silent (which I hate) and I cannot for the most part identify if a quest is important or just a kill some bunnies side quest. But I am enjoying it nonetheless and already at level 16 after a few hours.
After finishing the story up to the second expansion, I believe, I will see if I go the extra mile or just wait a couple of years for them to allow another expansion on the free trial
@TuckNorris85 dammit, somebody beat me to it as the first to finish the month's game .
I am assuming from the insanity achievement that you have finish the game plenty of times before.
Forgot to post my thoughts/review after beating last month's game Life is Strange: True Colors last weekend...
As a fan of the series, I knew going in that I was going to enjoy it. After beating it yesterday, True Colors is probably my new favorite of the series. I have yet to play Life is Strange 2, but someday I will fix that so I can say I've played the whole series. I also don't consider that "canon", but I still do with this one since Steph was in Before the Storm, giving True Colors a link to the past Arcadia Bay duo of games.
Anyways, the game gets pretty dark quite a few times, but never overwhelmingly so. The darkest being obviously when Gabe dies at the end of Chapter 1 and then in Chapter 5 when Jed turns out to be a villain and tries to kill Alex, sending her into a time loop of her worst childhood moments. I will also give them credit as I didn't see the Jed twist coming until right before it was about to happen. There's also plenty of lighthearted moments as well, and the things you do with the side characters and some of your choices you make actually matter, as there's several different ways parts of the final chapter can do along with several different endings (some things similar, but still, at least several variations of scenes and such).
I would love a spin-off with Steph as the main character like they did with Before the Storm with Chloe, as Steph was easily my favorite character of this game. I haven't played her Wavelengths DLC yet, but it's not supposed to be anything substantial from what I remember reading, so a full-fledged story with her would likely be pretty fun given her spirited personality from Before the Storm and now True Colors.

The thing that annoys me about the ending of life is strange true colours is how the choices really dont matter the ending is the same what ever. in the other games there were different endings
@jarvismp with mass effect 1 theres lots of walking about talking to people that is alot of the game not alot of shooting. also the UNC missions are pure filler so if your finding those tedious skip those they are alot of copy and paste
things i would also recommend if your finding it tedious just do the main story eden prime, citadel, Artemis Tau cluster, noveria, feros, virmire and after can be done in under 10 hours.
for me it was one of those games that didnt grab me first time. then i played me2 then me3 loved them went back and now me1 is my favourite
@Clankylad Yeah, somebody over at Push Square told me the same thing. I plan on finally playing Life is Strange 2 at some point because of that fact.
That's good to know that Wavelengths is a bit longer than a regular chapter. With what you said, I definitely look forward to giving it a go at some point. I likely will wait a little while since I have other games to play at the moment, and maybe the add-on will go down in price at some point. If not, I'll still get it as it will be worth it for me, but maybe waiting will pay off literally.
@trev666 Technically there are some differences based on choices. If you choose to stay in Haven Springs, obviously you don't get on the bus and leave. Also, depending on what you do and don't do with some of the supporting characters, you will get different people to say goodbye to you. Yeah, some choices boil down to not being too meaningful, but I'm still glad some have at least some sort of an effect on the endings.

I think I've decided to give up on GreedFall. I've just had too much on this week (also I got out Guitar hero Wii and have been playing that in my downtime 😅) and not had a chance to play it so I definitely won't finish it by next Wednesday.
It's a shame, I wanted to get far enough in the game to know if it will get too difficult for me. Because if it doesn't then I would just buy the game. However it's unlikely that I will find out even if I play more this weekend and I don't really want to take a huge break from it because I'd struggle to get back into it.
So I think the only answer is to give up, even though I've probably put about ten hours into it!
Sooooo, this weekend I am hoping to a) write up some reviews over on the Push Square forums from the last few PS Plus games I played before my sub expired last week and b) to finally start Mass Effect. Though I am a bit worried that if I play it in any way like I played Greedfall, that it's going to take me forever to finish it and I might not get it done this month.
@Balta666 lol, I did start it about a week before it was officially announced as this month's game. I have played it about a dozen times now so I knew exactly what I was doing for the insanity mode, but in the original version, the difficulty was tailored to a new game plus playthrough, whereas in the legendary edition, it seems accessible right off the bat.
@Clankylad Thanks for the insight on Wavelengths, have been umming and ahing over whether to get and play it, but think I will now.
@KilloWertz Yep a couple of connections in LiS 2 though it's mostly entirely separate. Probably my least favourite of the LiS games, but still well worth a play imho. Slower burn for me. Play the short and FREE Adventures of Captain Spirit first if you can, it ties in nicely.
I was kind of on the fence about whether to actually play mass effect after my attempts to find time for greedfall failed miserably.
I did start it last night though, I think what slowed me down in GF was making painful attempts to explore everywhere and see every bit of the dialogue tree. I think I am going to be less precious about Mass Effect, if only to just get through the game in a reasonable time frame. I have a lot on in the next couple of week so my time will be limited.
I decided to go with female in the end, I couldn't find a nice way to customise the man. She still has a boy's name though (not John or Jane)
Anyway.... Heres my Shepherd!
Does anyone else want to post a pic of their Shepherd?
@ralphdibny Cool. Looking forward to seeing how you find it.
I'm about 7 hours in but i've been searching everywhere. There's something about this game that makes me want to soak up every bit of lore, read every codex etc. etc. I'm not usually so obsessive on this stuff, in fact the older I get the less I want to read, and often skip. But it just feels like such a cohesive world with a real history behind all the characters, races, their conflicts etc. I could probably tell you more about the Skyllian Blitz than the Falklands war, which is definitely a failing on my part but a testament to the effort that went into filling in all the history of the universe between now and then. Can't get enough.
My first impression is that the game world is a LOT smaller than I remember. The Citadel doesn't take long to get round at all, it's little more than a few large rooms in truth. This was made before almost every game was fully open world but at the time I remember this seemed truly grand in scope. It's almost like when you go back to somewhere you only knew as a kid and it seems so much smaller with the change in perspective and world experience.
Here's my Shepherd
Yes it's the default male Shepherd! When I first played the game on launch day in 2007 I fiddled round with the character creator and everything just looked worse, like a bad fan-made skin. So after faffing around for about half an hour and eager to start playing the game I went back to stock Shepherd and never looked back across the whole trilogy. (FYI they've improved the character editor in this edition taking it from ME2 & 3)
Anytime I see anyone else's Shepherd it just looks wrong to me, like someone is trying to rewrite history, my brain says no, much in line with the earlier discussion on head canon. So for my own sanity I kept him exactly the same. He's always been MY Shepherd.
@ralphdibny I am terrible with adding images on these websites but I allways go for canon Sheperd (male or female) as I already saw them prior and it just feels wrong to go against it
I've played a bit more of mass effect, I've done all the citadel sidequests I've unlocked so far and now I need to go and expose that guy now I have evidence against him.
I'm finding it hard to like this game in some respects. The map is hard to get to, I wish I could map it to a face button. Every other button on the controller seems to get my gun out which is tedious. Same with Journal entries, I wish they weren't hidden in the pause menu.
I don't normally play RPGs so I don't really understand all this gear I've picked up, what I should apply to characters, what I should sell, what I should buy and what Sell All Junk means.
I also don't know what I should spend my skill points on. So far all I've spent them on is increasing charm and intimidation so I could get the speech options to finish some side quests.
Because of my lack of skill point spending, I seem to be approaching the combat in this game like a third person shooter i.e. cover sniping enemies.
I'm sure I'll get into it at some point but I am just having trouble understanding it all.
On the plus side, I do like all the characters. While I was initially put off by the ugly characters (with respect to potential romance options), I can see now why some might pop up because of their voices and personalities, something that's not conveyed just by looking at a screenshot of an ugly alien face!
I think the tedium was enhanced by the keepers sidequest too. I was walking everywhere so I could scan them, now that I've found the last one I think I can use the fast travel points. Having said that, sidequests seem to pop up randomly with no apparent impetus so I am still a bit put off by fast travelling still. But I must have walked around the entire Citadel about 10 times already -_-
I do actually have one more citadel sidequest to finish up which is The Fan. I might look up to see where that guy is Gona be next before I go lay some truth on the citadel council.
@themightyant I totally get that kid thing. Stuff seems so small now as an adult if I ever see things I haven't seen in 25-30 years. The science and history museums in London are the biggest culprits. Even walking around my parents house just feels like there is a lot less space. Or if I find an old book or toy in the loft.
How far into it are you now then?? Nice default Shepherd though! I nearly made my initial male shepherd into a demon type thing with red skin lol. I'm glad I went with my female in the end though 😅
@Balta666 probs don't need to see another default shepherd but if you ever do want to upload screenshots, you can do so on a website called imgbb. Upload them and on the next page change the links to BBCode full linked or something like that. Click copy. Then paste it into a forum post. I normally delete the URL tags but it basically looks very similar to a spoiler tag:
[IMG]image URL here[/ IMG] without the space
If it's a copy and paste from imgbb like I just said then it will just display the image. If you ever want to paste an image from Google or anywhere else, you right click the image (hold press on Android) and click open in new tab. That normally (depending on the website) shows the image itself in a new window then you can copy and paste the URL of that image in-between the tags in the forum post!
the citadel is a maze easy to get lost in so now youve done the initial exploring of the citadel use the fast travel terminals to get to where you need to go
with regards to your gear if the bars next to it are red its worse than what youve got so sell it. you pick up enough gear from decrypting chests throughout the game to get you though the game without buying anything all you need to do is equip new gear
with regards to skill points your doing the right thing maxing out charm or intimidate as soon as you can and after that max out a skill rather than put a bit in everything.
Bring a squad mate along who is high in decryption
With the fan quest he returns to the same place 2 more times after main missions so you need to speak to conrad verner 3 times in total. conrad verner actually turns up again in mass effect 2 and 3 if you do this initial fan quest
now the UNC side quests in mass effect 1 are copy and paste filler and can be tedious so if you find yourself annoyed just do the main quest.
Mass effect 1 is alot of walking about and taking to people, mass effect 2 and 3 play alot better
