@NEStalgia LOL I am one of those that believe that Halo Infinite will be great because of all the people involved and I don't mean just 343 staff but I wonder what's going on in that studio recently. It's like they lack proper direction. It reminds me that Microsoft should be a bit more bossy sometimes instead of just letting every team do what they want but just a bit because their philosophy is admirable. What's doing Rare with Everwild and where's Banjo and Viva Piñata?
@BlueOcean Everwild still feels like a Media Molecule "game" than a proper Rare game. Whatever form it's taking now, I'm sure it's nothing like the "cool environment we don't know what the game is yet" we saw in 2019. If it ever actually exists at all. Other than SoT I don't know that Rare does much at all these days.
Halo: Other M, I'm not sure about. I don't think it'll be "bad", but I'm not sure how well a game can turn out that was rebooted after 4.5 years with only a year to go, with the team split between it and a multiplayer version of the game. I'd like if it were great, but it seems like too little time to turn around a redesign, and 343i's track record is pretty bad. It'll be an HZD, not a Psychonauts 2, I'm betting Except without all the gratis awards due to Sony default prizes.
Someday, Banjo will happen. Not sure about Vita, but it will. But I expect a "Battletoads" type game from Banjo. A digital only, Game Pass release rather than a big AAA launch. Unless thy give it to Double Fine who is clearly capable of fantastic platformers.... (Banjo with Tim Shaffer puzzles...hmmm...)
@NEStalgia I hope that the next Banjo is AAA. In regard to Halo Infinite, are you sure it was rebooted a year before launch? If I remember correctly, they changed some gameplay elements and brought people over to help with the story. The visuals have been overhauled but it's usually like that except those games that are visually downgraded after they are presented, e.g. Cyberpunk.
@BlueOcean There's a lot of rumor (and given 343i's leaky nature, most of them are probably true ), I suspect that the multiplayer has been very steady in development all along. And that's been 343i's main strength since taking over Halo really. But if you're replacing the campaign leads and redoing the story with a year to launch, that's a heck of a lot of work to do in a short space of time. I'm not sure how extensive "reboot" needs to mean, really, but halting the campaign, replacing key staff, and seemingly redoing the story design is a big deal.
I do think it'll be a a "good" game, but I don't think it's going to stand as a major milestone for Xbox. It'll be just another "decent to play game". Could be wrong, it could be amazing. The early gameplay with grappling looked fun. But I think it'll go from "well this is pretty fun and definitely not like Crackdown 3" to "Starfield is here, why is anyone still playing Infinite?" over the next year. And with FH5 releasing along side it, I fear it may make it show the cracks easier. Halo isn't the "Mario killer" it once was. This entry needs to stand on its own. And in the FPS space, Doom Eternal has really raised the bar a lot. MS is kinda competing with themselves now
Recently joined the new gen age and got a Series S so that is my platform of choice at the minute. Prior to that I was bouncing between Switch and Stadia. Portability and play-anywhere is important to me so those were my go-to platforms. XCloud though has made Xbox equally as accessable to me though so I can see the Series S being my main platform for the next few years, sprinkled with the odd Nintendo and Stadia game.
It's interesting how Series S is working for Microsoft better than many here expected because we are gaming nerds, I guess. Currently, the system I use the most is Series X followed by Wii U, Switch, SNES Classic and PS4.
I used the PS5 more earlier in the year, as I never had a PS4 and caught up on some of the exclusives , but other than that, most of my gaming has been on Xbox, my preferred multiplatform systemm
Right now series X takes 90%+ of my gaming time and a bit of switch when a game catches my eye. Have to say I am not buying many games since game pass though...
Right now it's Xbox Series X only because it's the only console I have access to right now. My house burned down last April so my PS4 is in storage while my house gets rebuilt and my Switch was stolen out of my house the day after the fire and I have yet to buy a new one. Though I am not sure if I want to because I had a ton of digital games on it.
But back on topic, I have been playing my Xbox Series X mostly.
RetiredPush Square Moderator and all around retro gamer.
Just Switch at the moment since I'm plugging away at SMTV, though as Kirby is the next exclusive I'm really looking forward to (and it's a ways out) I'm sure I'll be putting more time into my gaming laptop soon enough.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Tasuki if your games on switch are mostly digital you're are fine when you get a new one as they are still on your account and you can re-downloaded from the eshop
I have always owned at least 2 gaming systems and this gen is no exception so I have a Series X and PS5 hooked up. Currently, my PS5 hasn't been used in months because my Series X and Game Pass Ultimate are delivering the experiences I want to play and at a price I'm willing to spend...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Even though I have a few older systems and a switch, I’m mainly playing the series x. It has become my favorite console and preferred way to play, and I hardly touch my switch any more. Between the controller, the ability to stream games to my iPad, and the ability to game with friends, it is just a wonderful fun experience. I am new to the Xbox, having got a one x at the end of the generation, and before this mostly played switch.
I think I have spent enough time in Halo:Infinite to form an Opinion on 343's latest. Its clear its not a 'Flagship' Series S/X title and certainly nowhere near the expectation that was alluded to with the 2018 'in-engine' reveal. However, its the 'best' Halo game by 343 ever and really captures a LOT of the essence and feeling of Halo:CE. Of course the world seems a bit samey as you don't really have many different environments and its a bit like the first couple of levels of H:CE and there are numerous nods to the original. I was never a fan of Halo's MP and this is no different. If anything, I am more put off by the F2P model and BS they have to (or at least say they need to) now do - like Battle Pass, very expensive cosmetics, slow and 'inconsistent' progression/XP etc but if it gets more people playing, that's better for the 'game-play' overall - more people, more matches and less waiting, lower Ping = better experience etc.
Overall, Halo: Infinite is Great game. The Visuals are very 'last gen' at best but they are 'good' enough that they don't have a 'negative' impact on the game. Yes it could of looked 'better' but when your playing in the world, the rock solid 60fps performance (on Series X where I play) and solid combat, movement etc all combine well.
As for the future, I can't say that Rare's titles have filled me with excitement and can't get excited by a game that looks 'pretty' but no idea of the game-play/story. I don't know if they will ever do a 'Banjo' again, not even sure if anyone still exists at Rare who made the first 2 - they may all be at Playtonic and gave you Yooka-Laylee as well as loosing staff to go and form Free Radical Design that made Time-splitters. I keep hoping that Rare will 'return' to being one of the best and most loved studio's, and with MS being much more committed to gaming, that hope is stronger now.
We still don't know what all the Studio's are working on - Coalition (Gears 6 or 'new' IP) Compulsion & InXile - even what Double Fine will follow up Psychonauts 2 with, but we do know what most are working on. Forza Motorsport (Turn 10), Avowed, Outer Worlds 2 (both Oblivion), Hellblade 2 (Ninja Theory), State of Decay 3 (Undead Labs), Fable (Playground Games), Perfect Dark (the Initiative and Crystal Dynamics), Indiana Jones (Machine Games), Starfield & Elder Scrolls 6 (Bethesda), Redfall (Arcane), Ghostwire: Tokyo (Tango Gameworks). That's just their 'own' studio's - but they are also bringing games through ID@Xbox and working with other 3rd Party Studio's as 'Publisher' which will be giving us 'Contraband' by Avalanche Studio's and rumours abound about other Projects - particularly Kojima's next game.
Its possible that MS may well find a 3rd Party developer to make a 'Banjo' game for example, I think the future for Xbox, and Game Pass, looks bright.
