The trailer for the new summer movie starring Adam Sandler - "Pixels" - is now out. The concept is that earth sent a time capsule into space in 1982 containing items from our culture at the time. Video games, Rubik's Cubes, and the like. Some alien race stumbled upon it and took it the wrong way, then decided to make counter-measures based on the games. Donkey Kong, Pac-man, etc.
I spied it and thought it looked like it could be quite funny, but it's getting some CRAZY heat online about how "awful" it apparently is. Not really sure what people were expecting, but I genuinely think it looks alright.
It looks like it will be OK. I like Adam Sandler movies but the premise for this one is a bit ... I don't know. Wreck It Ralph was amazing and this video game movie looks pale in comparison.
I get all the references and I've played all the games ... the rest just kills me. And personally, I've yet to see a convincing Adam Sandler movie. I think he's one of those comedy actors who don't have any kind of comical timing, so he just kills the jokes. Most of the flicks I've seen with him in the lead are depending on a good actor to make the cheap shots funny. For me, he never delivers. So I don't trust him for this one and the trailer did nothing to change my mind on that.
