What notable games (or series) have you somehow avoided playing any of?
The big ones for me are Elder Scrolls, Starcraft, Warcraft and just the genre of MOBAs in general (League of Legends and Dota 2 for example). Hopefully I'll be able to remedy these this year, but I know I don't have the time to really sink into MOBAs to really get anything out of it.
Few other smaller ones: Red Dead series, Fallout (I've played New Vegas for like an hour, but I really had no clue what the hell I was doing) and there are a lot of SNES/NES series I would like to try more of.
If they are on PC and mmorpg (WOW,Runescape) or moba (LoL, Dota) then I can say I have never played or never will. Card games (like Magic) are also in the category too. Due to my dislike of fighting games I haven't played every franchise but I have played a few in my time. I am sure there is many notable games (or series) I haven't played over the number of decades I have been gaming. Sometimes it could be down to the platform (for example pc Arena shooters because I am crap with a keyboard/mouse combo in these or if there was some exclusivity on those games and didn't own the console - Any exclusive Nintendo game from the Wii-U era for example) or because I bought into or tried a different franchise of the same category (for example Street Fighter vs Killer Instinct vs Mortal Combat vs Tekken). Certain Sports games too like Madden NFL, NHL, PGA Golf, Rugby, Athletics (Olympics), Baseball etc (not Arcade variants like Mario Golf or Wii Sports) I can say I have never played either.
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
You should fix that problem. Red Dead Redemption is absolutely fantastic. One of my favorite games of all time, in fact.
Just moved it to the top of my GameFly queue
Is there anything I need to know about Red Dead Revolver before playing or are they unrelated?
Nope. They're non-linear and Revolver has nothing to do with Redemption. The only connection they have is a small reference where a character is describing Revolver's story as the plot of the book he's reading.

Red Dead Redemption is definitely one of the best games of last gen and one I would highly recommend - Its one of those games that I think is an essential game of last gen. Red Dead Revolver was a good game from the original xbox era but I don't think it had the full impact of Redemption or the Rockstar stamp on it. It was originally developed by Capcom (I believe) but was bought by Rockstar and expanded and finished off. Where is Redemption is all Rockstar and feels more like the game they wanted to make but couldn't with Revolver because of the prior development by Capcom, Revolver (although good) just isn't in the same league. Had Redemption not been released though, I would have recommended it.
If you intend to play both - definitely start with Revolver. Although Redemption is more of a spiritual successor, it is far more ambitious and so much bigger/better that it could affect your judgement of Revolver.
Halo, I've played a bit of one now Master Chefs out.
Mass Effect : Devoured the first, loved it. Played an hour of the second, thought the changes they made were rubbish, and left the rest of the series.
Assassins Creed: Never finished a single one.
"Justin Bieber looks like a lesbian i'd like to ****..." - Megakillscreen, out of frickin' nowhere!
I dated a girl that was absolutely OBSESSED with Mass Effect, to the point that she had completed all three games multiple times. She tried to convince me to get into them and I picked up the first one on Steam. Played it for an hour or so but just wasn't feeling it at all, if I'm honest.
Liked the combat in the demo of the third game on 360, so I'll give the next entry in the series a chance for sure. But I think it counts as a notable game series that I haven't played, since I think I've spent about an hour and a half in total playing the story across all three games.
Anything Kicky Fighty - hate them, even when MS give them away free.
Sports games - ditto.
Zombie stuff - double ditto in a marmite sandwich (I hate marmite). With the exception of PvZ
I've never played Fallout, Skyrim or Dead Rising. I did try Dead Rising when it was on GWG but didn't like it and I don't think I've got the time or inclination to be going with the massive RPG games.
Halo - I have a couple of hours now that MCC is out but I still really don't get it or care about anything that's happening.
Halo high five! Over the years I've probably played 1-2 hours, total.
I've safely avoided any and all first person shooters with the exception of Perfect Dark for the N64. Then my sister convinced me to buy the MCC (she's a huge Halo fan). I thought it was kind of meh until Cortana dropped Chief on his head. Since then I've found the series to have kind of a heroic/ dorky sci-fi charm that is very endearing and cute. I'm on Halo 2 now and I'm a fan.
I'm on Halo 2 now as well. Never played the single-player campaigns so decided to run through Halo: MCC a week or so ago. Good fun!
Yeah, the beginning of Halo is pretty rough but it sort of grows on you. Having played a lot of Nintendo over the years, I really hope that the Xbone gets more remastered classics so I can go back and play them (except I didn't really care for Devil May Cry, it just didn't look interesting to me).
You should check out DmC. One of my favorite games released in years. Worth a rental at the very least.
