In preparation for Starfield, I've beaten Skyrim!
I have 1000+ hours of Skyrim across Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 and Xbox Series X.
But I only finished the main story twice. The fist time was a few years ago on the PS4 and now I've defeated Alduin for the first time on an Xbox console. And I've finished the Civil War quest for the fist time... after ten years of neutrality, I finally sided with the Stormcloaks and gave Ulfric his crown.
Though, I hate to say that the Civil War questline was a letdown. The main story is way more interesting.
Earlier this year I've beaten Fallout 4 as well, for the second time. First I sided with the Railroad, now I went with the Brotherhood. Even though I hate the Brotherhood's ideology in this game, the Power Armor + Jet Pack combo is pure joy...
@Matthewnh I finished it for the first time in 2021 I believe and I do adore it though . I tried rdd2 last year but fell off after a few hours I am not sure why and I never felt compelled to go back (I will some day for sure)
Beat Planet of Lana recently. Really enjoyed it. Looks gorgeous and is great with headphones on. Think it took about 4 hours or so to beat. If you liked Inside you'll like this I would imagine
This is my third Atlus game. I loved Tokyo Mirage Sessions (Wii U) and Soul Hackers 2 (Xbox), so I decided to play the Persona series, too. There are awesome and jarring things about Persona 5 Royal, so I decided to be more specific and objective than ever.
It's impressive how the game connects gameplay, story and simulation masterfully. Now, I'm discovering that it's just the evolution of the series. A ton of mechanics are interconnected and there are characters with different personalities and personal evolution. Doubts and contradictions are real and acknowledged throughout the story. You even learn things in class. The generous story content and deep combat are fun and addictive. Palaces and random dungeons are all good and somewhat unique. Compared to Soul Hackers 2, you can't teleport anywhere and that does make combat much more strategic and interesting. The strategy gets deeper and more interesting as you progress and learn more about the world, covering every aspect of a coherent universe. Persona 5 Royal is a gameplay masterpiece. Furthermore, some but not all of the music is good, there is much graphical detail and visual quality, all the user-friendly features you could ask for are included and a long and deep story with most of the dialogue dubbed.
The negative side is the heavy conditioning and lack of choice for the most part. The most logical romance option is developed naturally yet forbidden, as explained here:
Additionally, the only openly gay characters are effeminate and sexually predatory. I'm playing Persona 4 Golden and it's way worse, like an early 20th century conversion therapy. These issues are more shocking since the full story behind this game is unexpectedly deep and tackles everything about mankind. As Makoto said, "Victory against a single criminal is meaningless... The true enemy is society itself." Most characters are great and likeable. Looks are deceiving.
Annoying issues about this game include the vocal music that plays every time you get dozens of group text messages and the opera-like song that plays endlessly while plotting new persona fusions. Fusion is not properly explained in Soul Hackers 2 nor Persona 5, e.g. you have to find out that it's useful to register your personas before fusing them. Fusions are explained in a proper way in Persona 4 Golden, the game I'm playing now.
Another annoying audio issue is related to the doctor, who won't shut up for a second while you're browsing her store and will repeat a couple of useless comments indefinitely. There is more of that, like Morgana's hyper-repetitive and redundant dialogue and commentary inside and outside battles and Futaba's finisher animation which is the only one that can't be skipped.
Another failure, in my opinion, is not naming the main character which results in very odd dialogue. The idea doesn't work as well as in other games. The only serious gameplay failure I found was the battle against Kunikazu Okumura.
It's very difficult to rate the game because most of it is excellent, but I can't ignore the interactions, audio and gameplay glaring flaws.
Final Fantasy 16. Utter garbage. I’m sad I actually fell for the reviews the game got and spent hours of my life playing it. No other game has rubbed me the wrong way in some time. I’m only here because it was being mentioned in the Starfield review score thread and I proceeded to have to rant about how bad it is there.
Sea of stars which I have mixed feelings. The story is just ok and the combat is not much to my liking (slow progression and heavy hitter) however it is not common to have a game putting tears iny eyes so kudos to that.
I am still missing the true ending but I am struggling with one of the tasks so I will wait for some videos of someone doing it.
@NintendoByNature about 31h with the extra health relic turned on since the 2nd boss. However I did pretty much all sidequests before going for the final boss.
Goldeneye 007, the 2008 remaster developed for Xbox 360, unofficially released in 2021. This is the first time I beat the whole game in 00 Agent mode. The remaster makes it a very smooth and rewarding experience. Goldeneye 007 still is one of the best video games ever! It makes others such as Wolfenstein The New Order and The Old Blood very dull and clunky. 2010's Goldeneye 007 reimagining is much duller, too. The official 2023 port is okay at best.
@AnVold Yep, I hope that the these Project Zero/Fatal Frame remasters keep selling so the original trilogy is released soon. All of them are awesome and unique but the second game may be the best!
bioshock 1. recommend for atleast 1 playthrough, amazing atmosphere & story, game is a work of art, but it does start to drag and get tedious in my opinion.
I just finished Sea of Stars. Absolutely one of my favorite games of the year. It's damn near 10/10 for me. Just a few minor gripes like no real map, quest log, or ability to flee.
Other than that, they nailed everything from the entire party leveling up even if they aren't active, not being charged a turn for swapping characters, showing the amount of moves until turns for you and enemies, etc.
The story was great, the characters were lovable, graphics( or art direction if you will) were beautiful, and combat was fun the entire way through.
Even with those minor cons, I'd give this a 9.5. I thoroughly recommend to anyone who has GP. Sabotage did it again.
@NintendoByNature kudos to you as I found the battles quite hard on normal difficulty (and I believe you have access to a relic that gives you more health from the get go)
@Balta666 thanks dude. Surprisingly, I didn't find it all that tough. I found bravely default/ff bosses and battles much harder. There were only a few boss battles that were pains in the rear for me. That final boss battle was a gauntlet for sure, but I beat it on the first try. Also, any time you were outnumbered with either too many enemies or multiple hit spots on an enemy, I did in fact struggle. It was easy to get ganged up on. Also, it's worth noting that Ser'aii was mandatory for all boss battles. Her disorient move delaying an action was necessary more often than not and got me out of multiple pinches.
