Considering I'm in the middle of a move and my game room is all boxed up, I'm not sure it was the best time for me to start this topic. But just because I can't share a photograph at the moment, doesn't mean you can't. If you have a gaming collection in your house, post pictures and/or tell everyone about it right here! Also, what are your methods of acquiring retro games? Do you frequent resale shops, rummage through garage sales and thrift stores, or stick to online purchases? Share all below.
I collect little bits of everything and anything gaming related, with my main focus being SNES, N64, and Dreamcast games (LOVE those three consoles to death). Oh, and GameCube is another focus. Basically, I collect Nintendo first and foremost, but also buy plenty of retro games for other consoles. I tend to occasionally pop in and out of the local shops around town to see if I can catch bargain deals, but my favorite form of game hunting is hitting up garage sales. It's not uncommon to stumble on a massive bulk of games for dirt cheap! Here's a pro tip for any of you that are new to the garage sale scene: if you don't see any games out, always be sure to ask the person running the sale if they have any. You won't believe how many times someone went running into the house and brought out a box of goodies for me to dig through. Last summer I ended up with a couple hundred dollars worth of games for $20 all because I asked. Can't beat that.
Honestly, I could talk about collecting all day and night, but I'm thinking that, for the sake of healthy conversation, I should pass the mic. So yeah...s'your turn!
My collection has dwindled somewhat, I have to say. I stopped collecting and started being a bit more minimalist about everything, although I realise I still have a TON of stuff kicking around.
I probably have the most games for my Dreamcast, which is hooked up permanently to my arcade cabinet now. Still haven't actually found time to play most of the stuff beyond what I had to play to review them back in the day.
NES (My original one from launch day)
SNES (Bought this years ago from a Pawn Shop along with some games)
N64 (Bought this a couple of years ago from a local retro game shop)
Gameboy (Still have my original brick gray one that I got as a kid)
Gameboy Advance SP
Nintendo Virtual Boy (Yes I have one of these which I got on launch day)
Nintendo DS
Nintendo DS LIte
Sega Genesis Model 2 (Got this for Christmas when I was a kid)
Sega CD add on (Got it as another Christmas gift)
Sega Dreamcast ( got from Goodwill.com)
Sega Dreamcast Sports Edition (got from Goodwill.com)
PS2 (Got from a local retro store)
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo Wii U
Nintendo 3DS
Xbox 360
PS4
Magnavox Odyssey (Got from Goodwill)
I also have a broken Gamecube that the controller ports dont work. Most of my systems I have just kept through out a years but ones I have never owned like the Dreamcast I get from Goodwill. I also have a bunch of games for each system except for the Dreamcast which I only have 5 for right now I need to get back to that collection, Most of my retro shopping I don at a local retro game shop called Fair Game also at a local record store called Dimple Records that sells retro games and consoles as well as well as thrift stores though I tend to be cautions with those since alot of them don't test the systems fully so I don't want to get a busted one. I am a sucker for retro consoles and am always looking for deals on retro consoles.

My main collection is that of throwing blades, they could be expensive professional knives, letter openers weighted perfectly, one is just a sweet splinter off a broken rock that I found. If I can stick it into a tree from 25ft... it makes my collection. Demolishing snowmen with little cousins is also a joy, whom I am teaching proper safety and technique to.

Anywaaaaay....this topic is about game collections.
This was not specified, I have game-related blades? Well in that case it'd be my nearly complete N64 collection and fairly extensive 2600 collection with a working console and two joypads.
Not to worry. I've just picked up an original Xbox Controller S - somehow brand new and still sealed - for some upcoming features we'll be doing on OG Xbox titles. Just got to look through my collection and work out which game to start on. Not Halo...gonna give that a miss as the Master Chief Collection has us covered.
I've not got a huge collection, but I'll gladly share:
My first 'console' (or TV game as known then) was a Teleng Colorstars circa 1979.
(Skipping the ZX81, Vic-20 and Amiga 1200) my next console was a Sega Megadrive.
Next came a PS1 and PS2 (and several self-built gaming PCs) before I saw the light and bought a 360 Elite.
I sold the elite to upgrade to a 360 slim.
Finally I have my Day One Edition Xbox One.
With the exception of the 360 Elite - I still have all gaming consoles
You don't stop gaming because you get old, you get old because you stop gaming.
I stopped collecting consoles as they took up too much space for the amount of time I'd play them. So I decided to fill my lounge with random stuff instead.
Main console setup, with random games/toys/DVD/Blu-ray/everything I can't find a space for. PS4 is on-loan to a friend who was desperate to play The Last of Us.
I just love 'em.
Work/video capture/streaming desk. I've got long cables to link across from the consoles to the desk for video. Also used for PC gaming, which is why I'm counting this as part of my "collection" although the PC gaming is powered by the arcade cabinet/PC hybrid thingamy behind the desk...
...which can also be used to play arcade games and Dreamcast stuff in sweet, sweet VGA resolution.
I spent far too much money and time getting everything to link together. I should have like...done other stuff with that time...
@SuperKMx That is one impressive gaming setup!! You must have a very understanding/equally dedicated partner or you live alone! I would share my setup but I don't know how to get the pic from my Windows 8 phone to here (unless someone can tell me how?)

Lone ranger, me. Well, since just before Christmas anyway. Might keep it that way for a bit. More time for games.
For sharing your pics, I imagine you could upload them to Imgur direct from your phone. Not 100% sure though...
@captainhetty I've got it to Facebook from my phone but have no idea how to get it from there to here. You would think at almost 40 years old, I would be able to get a bloody photo on to the internet
Good stuff, guys! I can't wait to move and get settled so I can share a peek at my collection. I don't have anywhere near as much as some people do, but I have amassed quite a nice amount of amusing junk. Outside of the video games, I also have a pretty decent-sized library of comic books and video game mags, which friends love to rummage through when they're over. The magazines, in particular, are a good conversation starter.
We have a load of comic books shoved in a box under the bed. I'm adamant he should get rid of them. He nearly had a heart attack when I bought one for pennies on the market then cut it up to upcycle a book shelf for my son's bedroom... 'Twas funny. Bookshelf looks cool though
