Hey yo, Thought I'd start a thread for fans of anime. I'm not a hardcore anime fan, but I do watch stuff when it strikes me. I'm a big fan of Studio Ghibli - been going through all of the Blu-rays this last week or two. As for other anime, I like the classics. Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc. Really enjoyed Eden of the East recently, too. Started watching Fairy Tail and that's kinda cool, too.
Also really liking the latest from the Cowboy Bebop guys - Kids on The Slope. Really enjoyable so far, though I'm only halfway through.
Anybody else delve into the genre? What are your favourites (or recommendations!)?
As far as recent anime goes I would recommend: Nisekoi, No Game No Life, Free! Eternal Summer & The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior. All of those are on Crunchyroll (which is now on Xbox One!)
If you're more into action type anime Brynhildr was pretty cool (except for the last episode which skipped so much stuff) and so was Black Bullet if you don't mind a ton of missed potential.
My all time favorite series are Detective Conan and Lupin the III.
Speaking of Ghibli: have you ever seen Grave of the Fireflies, Ken?
I think it might be their best movie but its too sad for me to re-watch it like I do their other films.
Also I just watched The Wind Rises recently. Such a beautiful film
Its about a high school swim club and its just the most over-dramatic stuff. Oh and so many muscles.
I didn't really watch anything from the latest anime season, kinda don't have the time anymore. Just been trying to catch up on Detective Conan but there are like 700 eps so...
Haven't watched much in recent years apart from Ghibli - which my toddler loves, especially Totoro and Ponyo.
Grave of the Fireflies is fantastic but so, so sad. Even my boyfriend had a few tears at that one. Mind you, we seem to cry at everything - did anyone watch Ricky Gervais' series Derek on Channel 4? Both cried at that as well.... ^_^
Did anyone watch the series 'Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine' that came out two years ago? Its fantastic, great over-arching story and a really great plot-twist at the end.
Only downside is that there is a distracting amount of nudity in the series. Other than that the art direction is top notch and its just an amazingly well done series.

I did indeed. The last episode of the first series made me a bit moist-eyed, that's for sure. Haven't checked out series two yet.
Is it funny or just sad? I'm looking into it now... this had better not be like the time I figured the UK original Office would be similarly tame as the NA version.

It's both funny and sad. The comedy is a little subtle in places. Worth a watch for sure though, I'd say.
