There's obviously been a lot of talk about Xbox exclusives jumping over to PS5 and Nintendo Switch recently, but even if you take some of those away, there's still a fantastic selection of console exclusives on Microsoft's platform right now.
Out of curiosity, we went back and looked at all the Xbox console exclusives that have been released since the Series X and Series S made their debuts in November of 2020, and the list remains an impressive one. Obviously we've removed the likes of Hi-Fi RUSH and Pentiment that would have scored highly, as they're no longer exclusives.
So, here are the top-rated Xbox exclusives (since November 2020) according to Metacritic's average ratings:
- Forza Horizon 5 (92)
- Microsoft Flight Simulator (90)
- Halo Infinite (87)
- Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (86)
- Forza Motorsport (84)
- Starfield (83)
- Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition (83)
- Grounded (82) (exclusive until April 16, 2024)
- Gears Tactics (82)
- Go Mecha Ball (81)
And here are the top-rated Xbox first-party games (exclusive or not) during that timeframe:
- Forza Horizon 5 (92)
- Microsoft Flight Simulator (90)
- Deathloop (89)
- Halo Infinite (87)
- Hi-Fi RUSH (87)
- Psychonauts 2 (87)
- Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (86)
- Pentiment (86)
- Forza Motorsport (84)
- Starfield (83)
Unsurprisingly, a whole bunch of Xbox first-party games dominate the exclusives list, with the ever-popular Forza Horizon 5 coming out on top. It's also nice to see the recent indie Xbox Game Pass title Go Mecha Ball propping up the list, and if you look further down, there's also the likes of Planet of Lana, Party Animals and Warhammer 40K: Darktide.
We recently added a few Xbox Game Preview titles that aren't eligible for this list to our best Xbox exclusives guide as well, such as January's mega-hit Palworld and the survival game Valheim, so there's more where these come from!
In a nutshell, there are still plenty of great exclusives from the Xbox Series X and S generation that you can enjoy today, along with many others from the Xbox One era that are still going strong (Sea Of Thieves comes to mind). And of course, he best part is that the entire top 10 list can be played on Xbox Game Pass across console and PC!

Only Hi-Fi Rush is for me. I would put it at the top of the list. I need to play the Gears Tactics game. The only Gears game I have not played yet.
It feels like there is a definite disconnect between the gaming community as a whole and those handling the reviews.
One would look at those scores and think "Wow, Microsoft has released a fair amount of really good games" and, yet, to look at the comments section of many sites, Microsoft doesn't have any good games. 🤷♂️
Overall, I'm happy with what xbox has had over the last few years and even more excited for the next couple years. My top 5 would be....
1. Starfield
2. Halo infinite
3. Grounded
4. Forza horizon 5
5. Cant decide between Age of Empires iv and psychonauts 2
Halo Infinite is pure joy right now. Gruntpocolypse firefight got added today. So much fun to play against hordes of grunts. A pure dopamine hit.
Out of the exclusives, honestly, Halo Infinite is the only one I really liked a good amount, personally.
The non-exclusives are a great bunch. Deathloop, Hi-Fi, and Psychonauts are great! All better than the actual exclusives.
@GamingFan4Lyf not uncommon for games to be unappealing to people despite their reviews from critics
Only Hi Fi Rush appeals to me out of the lot of those.
I have played only four of the games from either list; I dabbled with both Forza and Horizon. I enjoy driving games to some extent, but I grow tired of them after a while. I have played the campaign of Halo Infinite, and really enjoyed it. I am currently on my third playthrough of Gears Tactics, and got the achievement for completing it on Insane on Sunday. It's a really good game...
I was pleasantly surprised by Ghostwire Tokyo in addition to a few of the aforementioned titles above.
@TJ81 I also unexpectedly loved that game last month. One of the more engaging open world games of this moment.
I didn’t expect Forza Motorsport to score that high. Is it already a good game by now?
I'm surprised the exclusive list made it all the way to 10. What an awful, pointless generation this 9th is.
@Darude84 The atmosphere, music and then the Spiders Thread mode after the campaign were all really excellent in my opinion. And just for your username, here is my favourite imgur of all time:

thing is, you look at that exclusive list, two of them are old strategy games, and then 3 are racing and simulation, which, while highly rated, are definitely more niche compared to the big ps and nintendo exclusives. So, it's not too hard to see where these complaints come from
@Xbox_Dashboard i dread what 10th generation is gonna be like
Loved Forza Horizon 5.
Hi Fi Rush and Starfield were enjoyable, but didnt quite hit those heady heights to me.
The rest are titles that just didnt gel with me - I prefered Ghostwire Tokyo to most on here and expected to see it on the list.
I think if you want to understand Xbox's position in the current market, just looking at the lists and understanding that's 3.5 years worth, tells you why. I don't think it bares comparison with its rivals, but obviously that's personnel taste, and I understand many might place more value in games like Infinite for example.
I do hope for better this year and I'm pinning my hopes on Avowed and the Indiana game to do well and entertain. I have severe doubts on Hellblade 2, but maybe that will be great too...
