Earlier today, we were treated to a first look at Microsoft's supposedly-planned Xbox Series X console revision thanks to some newly-leaked images. In short, the system appears to be sporting a fresh white coat of paint, while also ditching the disc drive for an all-digital Series X debut.
The form factor is very much the same as the standard Xbox Series X elsewhere though - unlike the FTC leak we saw last year. So, our question is, would you be interested in this product if it launches just as these leaks show?
To be honest, we'd have been much more interested in that FTC leak that seemed to suggest a more comprehensive overhaul to the console's design. This white Series X just looks a bit odd with its disc slot simply taken out!
Having said that, if true, today's leak does point towards a lower price point for the white, digital Series X - which would go some way to making this thing make more sense. A digital Xbox Series X for $400 or so? That's probably not a bad proposition for some players, all things considered.
That price point certainly isn't confirmed though — neither is the system in general just yet — but we're just spit-balling as to how this could make sense as a product. In any case, does this interest you? Would you be into the idea of a cheaper, all-digital Series X dressed in white?
Vote in the poll down below and discuss today's new leak in the comments section.
Would You Be Interested In This White, Digital Series X? (606 votes)
- Yep, I'd be there on day one!
- Yeah, as long as it's cheaper than the standard console
- I'd only be interested in a disc variant
- Maybe, if it has some other upgrades/improvements
- Nope, I'm perfectly happy with my current Xbox console!

No, as I currently have a Xbox Series X and a load of 360 and Xbox/Series X games on disc that I have and I also use my series X as a 4K/Blu-ray player.
Nope. Digital Series X is is the most useless console that I ever saw. It's like a third leg.
I don't really see who this aimed at.
I’m not really interested, happy with the S.
However if they did some kind of upgrade path from an S to it - like guaranteed you would get X amount to trade in your S - I would be tempted.
But currently as the second hand price of the series console is on its ar*e it’s not worth the upgrade.
I already have an X and an S, so I don't really need a midpoint between the two.
As a Series X and a Series S owner, im not sure why this would be something Id want. Unless there is a massive cost deduction why would anyone want this instead of the Series X?
I’ll stick to my Series X i got now even tho i havent bought a disk in 10 years. There’s just nothing here new for me. I DO however want the revised controller if it’s still coming and I’d snag two on day one. Sadly no leaks on that controller tells me they might keep it for next gen, hope I’m wrong.
Nope. My Series X is perfectly fine as is. I own no physical games anymore, but I do watch Blu-Rays still. Need a disc drive, for sure.
Nope nothing new.
Especially when you have Switch 2 and PS5 Pro around the corner that will least add something new.
I’m still amazed that Microsoft are bothering with consoles, will be interesting to see how long it lasts.
They simply have more money than sense and no idea on how to mass sell a game consoles or even gamepass nowadays.
@__jamiie
Folks who want the power of the X at a lower price, like white and don't require a disc-drive?
Any options that may help increase Series S/X console sales must be a good thing surely.
@__jamiie
It’s aimed at no body, unfortunately just like the current Xbox console that is running out of steam already and with low sales.
Happy with series S.
More interested in the next generation leap Xbox have mentioned.
No, I don't see why it's necessary but I'm sure someone would want it.
Had this been launched instead of the Series S, then I would have understood. But to release the underpowered Series S when they could have just launched this initially shows how bad Xbox have become.
I don’t see the point in the PS5 pro but this from Xbox just further proves how removed from reality Phil Spencer has become.
@OldGamer999 That's quite a niche Venn diagram right there. 😂
Love my series S - no reason to upgrade at this point. Waiting for the Keystone or handheld before this ….
@__jamiie
Yeah a niche and simple one 😂
I don’t really mean it, the series x console is a very good console it’s the Xbox brand that has no momentum to sell the console, since launch 3 years ago.
Waste of time…. Series X Pro, YES PLEASE DAY ONE
Absolutely. I always buy an Xbox for my cottage up north, but haven’t gotten around to it this time as the Xbox One X I have up there has been suiting me just fine the last couple years. Have been thinking it’s time to upgrade it and I don’t bring physical games with me up there. I strictly play from my digital library so this console is perfectly suited for that purpose.
Give up my Halo LE Series Xwith a disc drive for a crappy system with no disc drive?
Not a chance.
I don't think it is intended as an upgrade or replacement for anyone that currently has a series x. It will likely be cheaper than the current x and many people don't use physical at all, so this might be more appealing to new users. If you already have a current gen xbox, I don't think they expect you to be interested.
Personally I am a physical game collector so I can't really get behind this one. But I picked up a series S with xscreen and love it. I use that thing almost daily.
I'm sure there will be a really dumb discussion about how this "new hardware" will be compared to the ps5 pro in a few months.
I would have if I didn't already own a series x. I wish they would have had this at launch.
I want this been looking to upgrade from my series s and if this is cheaper than a series x with a disc drive I'll definitely pick it up don't understand the hate I'm sure loads more are in the same boat as me plus it's not really aimed at current series x owners obliviously
@BacklogBrad but for the average consumer is it going to be more appealing than the series S? The S will probably be what £100 cheaper too?
For most price is a bigger factor rather than it can do 6billion frames or has ninety Terraflops.
lol. No. That is all.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner does it need to be more appealing than the Series S? An xbox sold is an xbox sold.
I don't see the downside to having a disc-less series x available as well.
Should ship with 2 TB to dramatically enhance the appeal. Storage is always the main complaint when I speak with players IRL. Outside of the internet nobody I speak with ever brings up framerate, just how both xbox and PS5 need larger storage as standard.
@AnVold some would say a 3rd leg isn't useless at all 🫣🤫
Backwards compatibility (along with Blu-Ray playback, to a much lesser extent) was a key factor in purchasing a One S, and the BC games I play are split between physical and digital.
I'd have jumped on a Series X already, if it wasn't so expensive ($650 in Canada), but the lack of disc drive is a dealbreaker.
@AnVold I think my partner thought that but we now have two kids.
Nope. Xbox Series S will be the last Microsoft console I will own.
Clearly directed at Series S users wanting to upgrade.
I have a Series X, I don't see why I'd replace it with one that's exactly the same but missing a disk drive.
Granted its used more for BC titles and Bluray than for "new" games but it is used.
I understand that most people are going digital but not making any kind of external disc drive available is simply anti consumer. Especially if they intend to stop producing the original Series X.
Taking over the title of the most useless console refresh ever from PS5 Pro, just mere days after leak.. MS you have done it again.
No I'm good. Had it been around at launch I probably would've gone for it. Happy with our little S until next box whatever that ends up being!
4tb and a decent price, I'm in.
Pointless waste of hardware. Nothing but a downgrade from the Series X and further confirmation of Microsoft’s idyllic future where the consumer pays them £X a month to own absolutely nothing.
That's quite a bit of wasted internal space. Wonder what they could put there instead?
I jave a Series X already, so there really isn’t any point for me in getting this version.
A handheld Xbox, on the other hand, would be an essential purchase for me, I really hope those rumours are true.
A new console ,they should be concentrating on porting games to PS5 .Shouldn't they .
Who would get this over the original Series X? You're literally paying for a Series X that does less.
@AnVold wym? most males want a third leg...
It's just a worse version of what I already have.
@Gollum @Nyne11Tyme I like your sense of humour
@rizangle they don't want it. They have it.
I think my I’d be much more interested in a Pro upgrade to Series X, in the same way I bought a One X, last gen. It would also need to come with more than 1TB storage too. I filled mine - plus the 1TB expansion - ages ago.
There is a saying as "Timing is Everything!"
This diskless version of Xbox Series X, would have been a best solution for me, if it was released at the inseption of recent generation. But it is (unfortunately) too late now.
Besides, next generation is not in the too far future, let alone stronger (Pro equevelant) version of Xbox Series X...
As it said "Timing is Everything!"
I needed that diskless version (with 2 TB ssd) xbox series x since November 2020. I was ready to buy. But It is too late now.
Almost 4 years wasted...
I voted the absolutely not option, but after rereading the poll, if they released a pro console that ran current gen games in high fidelity/ray tracing modes at 60 fps, I would upgrade to it despite being cool on the future of the Xbox brand right now. It still beats upgrading my RX 580, I'm too old and lazy for PC gaming. I got a ton of mileage out of my Xbox One X, Gamestop usually has fantastic trade in promos if you wait a minute for one.
Also, despite being owning every Xbox since launch date in 2001 and having many hundreds of physical discs for those systems, the disc drive on my XSX has gotten used for maybe 3 games, and they clearly under engineered it because it sounds like a lawnmower in an otherwise silent system. I wouldn't miss it.
@AnVold We don't know the specs. Could be cheaper than Series X, could have 2 TB SSD and other upgrades at $500. If you already own a Series X, there's little point in upgrading with next gen coming in 2026-2027. This is for new buyers and may save MS some cash in production.
I'm all digital and still on SS so yes I think I will be upgrading.
And nuke my 2 shelves of 360 and xbox one games? Nah. Xbox going all digital means I’m out unless they put out a really good handheld.
I don’t think we’re the target audience, unless some of us just have an S and would like an X. I’d probably have gotten this one instead of the X I got back when, but having a disc drive has let me get some crazy clearance deals and also library rentals!
I want to upgrade from my series s to series x eventually. As I play digital games only that new version seems to be a good fit, but it should be cheaper or come with a 2tb storage.
I prefer having a disc drive for all my older games, but I'm not entirely against them having an all digital option for Series X, just why does it have to only be available in white?
@theduckofdeath it didn't change much if it will be less cheaper or have 2 TB SSD. Blu-Ray drive is more important, because you can play your old Xbox games on discs and buy used or new games on discs. You will lose much more if you buy cheaper console without disc drive. You can upgrade your console memory with additional SSD or/and HDD, but you can't buy Blu-Ray drive for your Xbox. That's why it's looks like a big downgrade for me.
