As 2024 officially comes to an end, we wanted to take this last chance to ask you about your favourite titles of the past 365 days - and specifically the games that you've enjoyed, but didn't receive enough love from the wider community.
There are loads and loads of potential candidates in here, some of which even made it into various "Game of the Year" lists recently - multiple staff members at Team Xbox would definitely mention Balatro as one of their choices!
Personally, I have to mention Aaero 2 - an Xbox (and PC) exclusive that barely anyone has played or heard of, but I consider to be one of the very best releases of 2024. Many other great titles come to mind as well - Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, The Plucky Squire, the System Shock remake... it's a list that goes on and on!
Everyone's got their own picks for a topic like this, so we're really keen to hear your thoughts down in the comments section below. This is your chance to give a shoutout to the games that deserved more appreciation this year!
What comes to mind? Let us know your picks in the comments, and feel free to talk us into buying them!

Brotato. Can get hooked on that game for hours.
Hellblade 2. I know it did well and won awards but it deserved even more.
Gotta be Veilguard for me....Yeah its not the masterpiece Origins is, but 50hrs in, I can honestly say there's been no complaints rendering the amount of hate it received being completely unjustified 🙂
As always, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
I mean, on this site, Indy deserved more love. Just sayin’
Brotato obviously but also its DLC was great as well.
Unicorn Overlord
Animal Well
The Dredge
Flight sim is such a great game but everyone got turned off by the launch day server issue.
I really wish more people competed in the weekly challenges. They are really fun and rewarding when you get good at them.
This is one of those games that the more you put into it, the better it gets. Not just doing all the tutorials but mastering some of them is huge
@ironcrow86 Veilguard for me too. Around 105 hours (!) in and still having fun. Some people just didn’t give the game a chance because of a small amount of woke content, some of which is even optional.
@BacklogBrad Is it a hard game to play like is there a load of micromanaging I've always been interested in flight simulator but just been put off by what I assume is a steep learning curve to the game.
@Ricky-Spanish the career mode does a pretty good job of easing you into it. You need to be certified to do a lot of things and it forces you to do the tutorial and take a "test"(practice flight) for each specific thing. You have to start with the slow small planes before getting the certification for multi engine planes, night flights etc. This way you learn alot the basics and slowly learn the next thing each time. Before you know it, you are able to fly a jet upside down while slaloming thru the weekly time trial courses.
@BacklogBrad Thanks for that mate I might just give it go on cloud at first if I'm sure if I'm into it I'll download it nice one bud happy new year to you!
Unicorn overlord.
It was so good, underrated, overlooked yet great to play and released in a good state.
Banishers was unjustly snubbed from conversation this year when its script and characters and the performances are among the best gaming has ever seen.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure practically got zero exposure after critics were harsh on the game without understanding it. I’ve said it before, but we don’t have reviewers that dislike Souls games review Elden Ring, we don’t have reviewers that don’t like JRPGs review Persona, so why do we get that for Life is Strange?
And Nine Sols. While not technically underrated as it received a lot of praise, it’s just not being talked about, and that’s because it was sandwiched between other monster releases.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth.
For the King 2.
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown (one of the best metroidvanias ever imo)
@BIG3 Did it *****. It was a 4 hour walking simulator
hellblade 2 was underrated
Starfield always doesn't get enough praise for being the only kinda-realistic open-world first-person space sim on Xbox like Star Citizen, wherein you can do a huge number of different activities every play session on many different beautiful worlds/environments. Loading screens are an issue though.
Dragons Dogma 2, although it is a love it or hate it game, is my GOTY. Was very happy to see it on TXB and Skillup's GOTY lists.
Infinite Wealth seemed more universally loved, I think it missed a lot of lists because of how early in the year it came out.
The two Remnant 2 expansions that released this year are amazing and should have gotten more attention.
Stellar Blade hands down. Game is phenomenal. There is no way on earth BMW beat it out for Best Action Game at the Geoff’s; I’ve played both and BMW is decent but nothing remarkable. Stellar Blade is elevated.
@FatGuyInLilCoat @AlwaysPlaying Brotato crew stand up! Amazing game, great shout. Great achievement list too.
I also enjoyed Tekken 8 which is now a paltry £20 to buy physical. No love for that almost anywhere and it's a solid edition to the series.
Tetris Forever, is a weird one. I wholeheartedly recommend the game for the documentary and the two special versions of Tetris on the collection. But it feels incomplete, with key versions of the game missing. Still I would recommend buying if it goes on sale.
Hello there fellow gamers.
An Xbox game that I want to shout out to is Dungeons of Hinterberg.
Been playing the game on both my Series X and PC every now and then, whenever I´m not playing Metaphor or SF6.
It has a very charming setting, unique visual aesthetics and the gameplay mechanics are pretty solid, alongside some interesting puzzles.
And it has a similar Persona Calendar and Bond system, although very casual friendly in a good way. It´s pretty good.
Cheers and happy gaming
The Bannishers! Without a doubt an underrated game.
I also loved Dragon Age: Veilguard. I did every possible quest in my playthrough, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a little too nice, maybe, but still a very good game...
It was pretty minor and got mediocre reviews, but ‘Open Roads’ was three or four hours that stuck in my head. It’s from some of the people who did ‘Gone Home’ and ‘Tacoma’. A mother and daughter are clearing out their late mother/grandmother’s house and discover she may have had a secret affair… They go on a road trip to get to the bottom of it, which they do.
I also thought Life is Strange Double Exposure was much better than a lot of the reviews it got did.
